I think when everyone saw her reaction to Peeta possibly being dead, I think she even surprised herself with how much she cared because in the first book she was constantly debating what she would let happen to him in the Games: let him die or save him. It never crossed her mind in the first Games that she would have this terrified reaction of losing him. Also, in the first Games she saw her relationship with him as a show to "keep them alive." In the second Games, she shifted her focus on keeping him alive; she was putting him before herself which is why I think she subconsciously realized she does love him.

You Stole My Heart it’s a reference to the books. In mockingjay when he’s talking with Katniss, he talks how he knew the romance between Peeta and Katniss was an act but he knew that when Peeta almost died (this scene) that she actually does indeed love him.

The only thing I was mad about from the film was that they didn’t show how much they did need each other after the first film. How much their survival after the first game depended on their bond. She literally couldn’t sleep without him next to her. She barely couldn’t breathe without him. That is the only thing that deserved better! They really were like “If you die, I die”

samee honestly you can’t tell the depth of their relationship from the film, they barely interact and Peeta feels more like a side character than the person that Katniss can’t live without :( I was really hoping they would keep the scene in where they had a picnic on the roof of the training center before the Games started, it was such a sweet moment in the book

I didn't read the books, for now, but in Mkj 1 and 2 we see that she is crazy in love for Peeta. Definitely she can't live without him. It's an adaptation, everything from the books can't be in the movie.

I read the books & honestly like the way the movies did it. I feel like they built up the relationship rather than having Katniss being immediately codependent. So scenes like this hit a little harder or even scenes like when they were on the beach & she says "I need you".

well what did you expect? she just witnessed her *first* love almost die, she'd experienced Rue, a random innocent 12 y/o girl get impaled a year earlier. rue reminded katniss so much of Primrose, the girl that katniss had volunteered (by risking her own life) to save because she loved her so much when she was picked at the reaping. how would you react in this situation? would you start laughing after loosing and almost loosing two people you cared about very much?

Lol in the books, when Finnick pushed Katniss away to help Peeta, (in the books) Finnick pinched Peeta's nostrils shut and Katniss thought he was trying to kill him and she went to grab an arrow and shoot Finnick until she sees them, "kissing" and then realizes he was giving him CPR. I just thought that was a funny little detail.

Actually at 0:41, you can see Katniss readying her bow and about to draw an arrow to shoot Finnick, before she realizes he's actually trying to save Peeta. So this movie does give attention to that detail too.

This scene is adorable, just shows the intimacy between them in the hug and how she's shaking cause she thought she lost him and didn't realise how much she loved him.. and the beach scene later on just confirms that her feelings are indeed genuine and its so touching that she says she does care in such simple words. I love these two scenes, like they are total masterpieces... ❤

I love how after this in the book she had to explain how she knew it was a forcefield and said after her first games her ear kept ringing from the explosion she was near and the capital doctors and surgeons essentially repaired her ear and made it very sensitive to noise so she could “hear” the buzzing of the forcefield so she had to keep up that illusion, stopping the group anytime she visibly spotted it, and pretended to be listening before throwing a rock and surprising everyone.

@@LouisaMarit Yep. In the book it's made clear that the District 3 tributes showed her how to spot forcefields, but the Gamemakers didn't know they knew. So in order to keep their secret, because she liked Wiress and Beetee, she had to pretend she was picking up on the forcefields some other way.

This scene is beautiful and sad at the same time. Beautiful because Finnick and Katniss herself realize that her love for Peeta was real but sad because Snow saw that too and then he tortured Peeta to hurt Katniss.

My God!!! I haven't watched The Hunger Games Movies for like 4 years. This moment is just genius!! Finnick fights for Peeta's life not just because he's important but also because he knows that if he dies, Katniss wouldn't keep with the rebellion. Fighting for Peeta's life was also fighting for a greater cause. And Jennifer Lawrence showed the vulnerability that Katniss have for Peeta. Grear film!

I love the German dubbing of this scene even more. In the German version he says "believe me, it's beating now" instead of "it's working now" which seems more like he's telling her that she makes his heart beat like crazy rather than just assuring her that his heart works again

@@inkheart151well in the ballad of songbirds and snakes snow ends the book deciding to avoid every feeling of affection in the future because he hated how affection made him feel. He thinks of a girl that he absolutely dislikes and decides to marry her some day in order to avoid unnecessary sentimentality😅 (not that his "attachment" to Lucy Gray was actual attachment but anyway, it was sociopath love😂)

Yeah. He's always so kind and generous, mainly to her. When Gale said that Peeta gave up of everything for Katniss, he was completely right. 'Cause, even if he was nearly dead, revived, he thought about her. he cared about her nervous. Just starting making her laugh in a situation like that, and later calming her down so gently. I don't have anything bad to say about Peeta, he's attitudes were always so lovely, that all I can do is get mad with Katniss for not being generous and kind to him too. In the moment he needed her the most, she was avoiding him and being rude. Needed Haymitch remember to her that if she was going through all of it, he would be for sure, trying hard to recuperate her mind. Helping her with the most gentle way as soon as he knew of her situation.

Haymich perfectly knew that she loved Peeta. He spent more time with both that any one. That's why the tributes helped Peeta and Katniss to survive the Quarter Quails. She only realized that she loved him when Peeta was about to die. And the scene in the beach was her showing her love to Peeta. The way she kissed him and look at him. She is totally in love!

People should talk more about Phillip Seymore Hoffman in this scene. When he says to bring him in closer and cannon ready, the look on his face is someone barely holding it together. Because he knows if Peeta is dead, their chance at a successful rebellion just plummeted. Magnificent acting.
