As soon as I heard The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was coming out, I figured it was time to dust off The Hunger Games in preparation. Truly a relic of a bygone YA adaptations era, the Hunger Games series wasn't quite a Twilight but stood out from your Divergents, Maze Runners, etc. I've seen the first three and had no interest in the fourth, but Alan has seen all of em and has even read the books!
Plot (via Wiki):
In The Hunger Games, the Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its 12 districts to send a boy and girl tribute between the ages of 12 and 18 to compete in a nationally televised event in which the 'tributes' fight each other to the death until one survivor remains. When Primrose Everdeen is "reaped," her older sister Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers in her place as tribute to enter the games and is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts and knowledge when she's pitted against highly trained and fierce "tributes" from all of the other districts and has to think quickly on her feet to survive.
In Catching Fire, Katniss and fellow District 12 victor Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) return home safely after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Winning means that they must leave their loved ones behind and embark on a Victory Tour throughout the districts for a couple of days. Along the way, Katniss senses a rebellion simmering upon the Capitol - one that she and Peeta may have sparked - but the Capitol is still under control as President Snow (Donald Sutherland) prepares for the 75th Hunger Games - the Third Quarter Quell in which past victors will be reaped - that could change Panem forever.
In Part 1 of Mockingjay, Katniss awakes in the complex beneath the supposedly destroyed District 13. Her home, District 12, has been reduced to rubble by the Capitol. Peeta Mellark was kidnapped by the Capitol and is now brainwashed and being held captive by President Snow. Snow wants Peeta to forget everything he had loved about Katniss. At the same time, Katniss also learns about a secret rebellion spreading throughout Panem - a rebellion that places her at the center of attention, and compels her to turn the tables on President Snow.
In Part 2 of Mockingjay, Katniss teams up with her closest friends, Peeta, Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), and Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin), on the ultimate mission for peace. Together, they leave District 13, to liberate citizens from a war that tears Panem apart more than ever. President Snow becomes obsessed with destroying Katniss Everdeen and everyone and everything she loves. Ahead lie mortal traps, dangerous enemies, and moral choices that will determine the future of millions.
This is an audio commentary ONLY. It is meant to be watched along with the movie so you can raise or lower the volume on the commentary or the movie itself as you wish.

As most of the stylists Katniss saw in the past were very dyed, stenciled and surgically altered to the point of absurdity. I'll stand by that Catching Fire is THE best book to movie adaptation out there. And it's a great sequel too that sets the revolution in motion gorgeously. It's amazing they learned from all the errors in the first one and that's in part what made movie 2 so good. I'm still so mad they screwed up the story of her Mockingjay pin.
@JBoxy7
@JBoxy7 6 ай бұрын
100% agree. When I rewatched the movies I was genuinely shocked by how good catching fire was. 9/10 honestly. I think the hunger games and the build up to them are better in this one because all of them have been there before so survival isnt as much of a problem which is why they have more threats. Also jack reachers in it.

I knew I needed to change my life when I saw the 4th one in theaters and laughed so loud when Primm got blown the fuck up. It was so unexpected and the timing was perfect. I CLAPPED.

The amount of times you’ve been able to reference “Go Tigers!” In your commentaries is insane lmao. I think my favorite running gag to this day though is that Jim Hopper is actually Hellboy in Stranger Things 😂

I'm pretty sure Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson said that there's a chance that they could be siblings! I think they even said that they wanted to do a DNA test just to find out.

I mean he is, most of the characters are named after stuff from their district. Katniss is named after a plant in the woods since her father was a woodsman, prim after a flower, characters from the 1st district are named glimmer, gloss, cashmere, etc…

When Harry Potter set the trend of spitting the last book into two films, at least they used that to their advantage. Yes more money was made and they could extend the series past 7 films but they put all the story and set up in the first part so the second part can be full on action packed and give the big climactic fight the full force that it needed. When Hunger Games did it, the really went "Let's do nothing in the first part and more nothing in the second part" rather than splitting action and story, they just stretched out the story to 4 hours. What a waste of time the Hunger Games franchise was
