I just made the jump to AE. My advice to people looking is look for start up companies to get your foot in the door. They will typically hire entry level or career switchers. It will probably be a little less money but you will learn a lot more and be exposed to higher people in the company. You also have an opportunity to to advance quicker. Last thing once you get the job start networking within with the managers of the position you want to get to and start learning about that role. It def will fast track you for the role and you may leap frog some people who haven’t done that. Good luck everyone 🎉

Love this video, reminds me how far i've come in tech sales. I went from SDR to now a Executive Director at a large healthcare tech company (i'm actually hiring for 2 Enterprise AE roles right now lol) in the 15 years of my career. I've worked as an Enterprise AE at successful start ups like Indeed and huge tech companies like Microsoft. The biggest bit of advice I can give is to understand if you want to remain as an IC or move into people management roles. So many people go with their ego and think they should be in leadership, but they're terrible bc they should've remained as high performing IC's. You can make more money as a good IC. Oh...and be easy to work with. I'm gonna subscribe to see how your sales journey goes. Good luck everybody!

Thanks for the video, it cleared lots of doubts !! I am a Software Engineer with 3-4 years of experience, wanting to pivot to a Sales Professional Role. The company I work for, has a deep tech engineering product. Do you think, my expereince as an engineer can be useful in the SDR/AE role? Secondly - does it make sense to move to Sales Professional role, if the money is too less as an initial SDR? I have no clue about Sales professionally, but have a lot of keen interest to build a career in this vertical.

I'll never get this hard on for these corporation type jobs, sales or otherwise. Maybe for those who crave prestige of working for such company, massive staffs, seek security, and prefer a more cold soulless setting. You could ALSO be with a much smaller firm, earn RECURRING passive income from all your opened client accounts, get shares of the profits, etc. Most top paying careers in general are 100% results based as well, which yes, in sales means 100% commission. @@MattMacnamara indeed. I love your sales tips, yet what you talk about here makes me want to jump off a bridge ha ha. While others seek that kind of structure to strive in. It's amazing really how different we can be. That's what allows us all to find our space. To me, sales is a wild beast in that we face constant rejection, negativity and all that, sprinkled with the wins, but to be your own boss, decide your own path is what motivates ME.
