It is easy to judge decisions on their morality, especially when you are not effected by these decisions. However, it is often much harder to find out what was behind these decisions in the first place - that is to say - what is the Ideology behind these decisions. That is the question a psychoanalyst like Lacan would ask himself.
This video tries to dig deeper into this underlying Ideology behind the "War on Terror".

If this truly were a war against terrorism (i.e. terrorism in the US or as a threat against it), then you would expect a focus on national security and border control. Invading these countries far away required a reason, thus indeed fear for the unknown (weapons of mass destruction) was used. The enemy was framed as a great threat and even worse an evil. In reality the motives of the US government were very different. The US is not driven by christian morality, despite their efforts to make it appear that way. The US government is driven by the 'morality' of a free market state, their main purpose is serving their power in a capatilist world. This is already clear from their support for rebel groups during the communist occupation of Afghanistan. They did not support groups that wanted a 'free world' with christian morals, they supported an anti-communist rebellion regardless of their ideology. Controlling regions with oil while simultaneously stimulating the weapon industry is simply profitable. You can ask yourself: why did the US never interfere in countries like Yemen? If a free world and christian values are their goals, surely they had ample reason to go there. This is also why torture is not a problem. Torture does not lead you to the truth, it leads you to the conviction you wanted a priori. Many of the people in Guantanamo Bay were later found to be innocent or not even remotely from the same region as these terrorist organisations. Getting people to lie, to admit untruthfully to crimes, grants the US a (false) permission to invade. The fun thing is that both the US/ West and these terrorist organisations do a very simmilar thing. A terrorist leader will convince its followers of great (religious) ideology and proof that the enemy (the US e.g.) is a terrible villain that must be destroyed. In reality this is obviously completely about power, control and money and has nothing to do with religious ideals. Ideology for the masses (which is arguably a slightly twisted form of ideology of the masses) is used by these groups of power to control and convince large amounts of people to support war.
