During the Civil War , thousands of Horses that were ridden by the Soldiers were slaughtered by order from a high ranking official while grown Men wept. I will never understand the willful actions to harm others and the need for greed when most will help if you ask. As the Bible says money is the root of all evil.

There is more to the story. My ex is the last descendant of Captain Foster. There are roads and streets named after him. Even the one they live on. The family acknowledges the bet that brought them here but there is more to the story than anyone else knows. Keep digging, but her family is very nice and adherent to what transpired in the past.
