Watch the thrilling ending to the 1994 NCAA women's basketball national championship game. North Carolina defeated Louisiana Tech, 60-59, on a buzzer-beating 3 by Charlotte Smith with just 0.7 seconds left. It was UNC's first title in program history.

I remember watching this live. Incredible shot, but incredible play drawn up by the coach. Louisana Tech was anticipating Smith to set a screen on the low block, but she just slipped straight out to the 3 pt line and was wide open. I'm always impressed when a coach makes something up on the spot and can get a wide open look.

Idk cause that one chick a few years back, the African girl on Notre Dame had two buzzer beaters in one final four. I think one sent UConn home and the other to win the championship. Closest thing I’ve seen to that in the men’s and women’s college game was Christian Laettner hitting two buzzer beaters to send Duke to the final four on two different occasions.

Packed stadium because the media had announced earlier in the day that 8 years later, a potential player named Caitlin Clark would be born. Its true...even 8 years before her birth, Clark was filling stadiums just in the mere anticipation of her birth. Impressive.

She and Marion Jones on the same team. The ultimate in speed and athleticism. Charlotte Smith could actually dunk the basketball which could have been attributed to genetics .... seeing as she is David (Skywalker) Thompson's neice.

The clock apparently started slightly late, yet the ball leaves her hands with 0.3 seconds left. So even if the clock had started instantly, either she would have got the shot off in time or it would have been too close to rule otherwise. (The space key pauses or unpauses the video, whereas the period key moves a frame forward and the comma key a frame backward.)

Ok folks, here's definitive proof that the shot would have been late if the clock had started on time: We all know that the clock started late, but how late? And does it even matter? Well, going frame by frame with the comma and period keys, she gets the shot off with 0.3 on the clock, so we need to see if the clock was delayed 0.3 seconds or more. Let's rewind frame by frame, starting with the first frame where we can see the clock go from 0.0 to 0.1. From that point, it takes three frames for every tenth of a second to pass, or 18 frames to go from 0.1 to 0.7. Now we need to keep rewinding frame by frame and see how many frames it takes to get to the first frame before she catches the ball. 12 frames would be 0.4 seconds of delay, meaning the shot would not have been in time, and by my count there are actually 15 frames. So in actuality, it took just about exactly 0.9 seconds for her to catch and shoot. And for the record, I live in Idaho and have no ties to either school. I just thought this debate was interesting and wanted to find out the answer definitively. I am not bitter about this game or anything and would have analyzed this exactly the same if UNC had been robbed.
