I believe the Yorubas braid it from front to back called dindin; it’s braided flat on the scalp. Very ethnic and unique. All the same, all African traditional hair weaving, plating and braiding are gorgeous.

Interesting, when I first started braiding over 10 years ago for some reason this is how I braided ( self taught) then I was like why my braids look so different from others! I shortly realized I was braiding overhand instead of underhand. I soon learned both techniques, however, I do more underhand now, occasionally overhand when I want a flat braid, or french braid! Now I might try this style!! Thank you .

Born and raised in Maryland, USA. My mother was a braider when I was a child. This is the only way I know to do braids, honestly. I've seen her do them knotted as well in the early 80s. But I could never actually figure out how to make them even knotted. This is the method she taught me that I've always known. Took me a minute to listen to the guy to figure out what was supposed to be so 'different' about this braid. Beautiful braids, though.

I am born in Ivory Coast and I am dedicated to making braids in Spain. My mother, was born and raised in Angola, and when I showed her this video she said: 'while here in the West the descendants think they are innovating and call themselves modern, there in Africa the elderly call you retrograde. Travel more to Africa and stop "inventing" so much ' 😅🤣 I understand your mum. 🤣🤣🤣

I love inside braiding! It’s the only way I can braid!! So this was perfect. I like this technique of adding the hair too! So many people get the overhand method confused for the underhand method & get mad when they’re corrected. THIS is TRUE OVERHAND/INSIDE braiding. Your hands overlap on top of one another when braiding each strand. That’s all it means. But the braid envelopes on itself. That’s why it’s called inside/inversion. Great video!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🫶🏾✨ Can’t wait to start practicing. 👩🏾‍🦱
