Honestly, his story is also pretty sad. Imagine being promised an afterlife of glory, to have your unshakeable faith be rewarded in the life after this, then seeing all there is is a never ending nothingness. I’d be pretty pissed off too.

Mordekaiser lore and TL;DR version in case you didn't understand the quotes (this is a long one) Mordekaiser wasn't actually named Mordekaiser at first, he was an ancient warrior in Valoran named Sahn-Uzal. Sahn-Uzal was a brutal warlord who conquered all his enemies while being led by a dark religion. Sahn-Uzal's religion was that, basically, if you conquer and kill enough, then you go to the Hall of Bones, to dine with the gods. When Sahn-Uzal died, he saw no Hall of Bones, he didn't see an entrance or anything, just a barren wasteland with souls fading away. While Sahn-Uzal was in the wasteland, he heard whispers of words he couldn't make out, he would later understand the language and it's name, _Ochnun_ (Oak-noon) the language of the dead. Sahn-Uzal was infuriated when he realized that his religion was fake, he saw no Hall of Bones, so instead he decided to forge his own. Sahn-Uzal refused to fade like all the other souls and he told people from beyond the veil about his power and what he did in life. Mages bound his soul back to his armor and revived him, they would soon regret it. After Sahn-Uzal killed the mages, he grabbed a book, the Tome of Spirits, and turned the mages souls into Nightfall, his powerful mace. As the mages died, though, they screamed his name to bind him, it didn't work, he was no longer Sahn-Uzal, but he was now Mordekaiser (Sahn-Uzal in Ochnun). Mordekaiser went to conquer the world, he killed countless amounts of people, massacre never seen before in the history of Runeterra. Mordekaiser built the Immortal Bastion, which today is the capital of Noxus, no one truly knows what Mordekaiser built it for, some saw it as a seat of power, others came to know the dark powers of it. The Noxii tribes made a rare alliance with each other and finally killed Mordekaiser from within his inner circle. Mordekaiser was sent back to the Realm of Death, or as he now called it: _Mitna Rachnun_ which is Ochnun for 'Mordekaiser's Afterworld'. he saw the souls trapped there, all of those who died during his reign were there, with dark powers he made it so that all souls who came into his Afterworld from now on would never fade. The weak souls were made into building blocks for his kingdom, the strong however, were made into his eternal army. Mordekaiser has since been forgotten, now that Noxus has risen, he name is still whispered in fear from those who study the history of Runeterra, but Mordekaiser will make them all remember one day. *TL;DR:* Mordekaiser was an ancient warlord in Valoran until he died. In death he saw the place his religion spoke of wasn't real. Mages bind his spirit to armor and he starts to conquer the world. Mordekaiser is killed through a betrayal in his inner circle and from the alliance of Noxii tribes. Mordekaiser is finding ways to return to the world and conquer it again after starting his own empire in the Realm of Death. fun facts 1. As you probably could have guessed the Noxii tribes made up the empire of Noxus years after Mordekaiser's fall 2. Leblanc actually played a role of Mordekaiser's second death. 3. When Mordekaiser ults you in game, he actually sends you to the Death Realm temporarily, people call this place the Shadow Realm, but that's incorrect because Nocturne rules the Shadow Realm from our knowledge 4. Mordekaiser uses the Black Mist from the Shadow Isles to return to the Runeterra temporarily since the Black Mist is the closest thing to a physical embodiment of death besides Kindred. 5.
