Imagine being a croc in those times: One day metal monsters rain death on your home and even the toughest of you get blown into a pulp if hit by the falling thunder. Next day, as if a prize for surviving, there’s endless free snacks going through your neighborhood.

Given all the rape, torture, mutilation and murder the Japanese soldiers carried out, this was simply justice.

There were stories from allied soldiers of hearing screams of terror and gun shots in the middle of the swamp and then followed by dead silence which spooked most men.

"Japanese Army vs. Australian Special Forces"

This is such a good idea for a horror/Thriller movie. It'll start with the allied attack on Remree Island with an opening gunfire scene. A young Indian captain is tasked with dislodging the Japanese forces occupying the area. After that it'll move to the escape of the Japanese soldiers through the swamp with all the snakes and insects. It'll then show the bloodthirsty crocodiles and the fatigue and starvation the soldiers faced and how they couldn't fight the reptiles off. It'll be filled with much gore and blood. There'll be scenes where the crocodiles will come into camps and drag off soldiers one by one. There'll be an antagonist large "Alpha" crocodile that'll be resistant to any weapons the soldiers use. This crocodile will be the main villain. Then the final scene will show the last and final escape of the lucky soldiers. On the speeding escape boat, one of the soldiers will look back on the horror they witnessed at Remree, citing that the terror of war is not always about the bullets or barb wires. But something even worse.

Japanese: *Exists Crocodiles: "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!"

Thus the holy trintiy, Australia vs emus, china vs sparrows and Japan vs crocodiles

I am a veteran as well as a Crocodile. We still don’t get the credit we deserve for our role in victory against Axis forces. We were very strategic with all of our kills and our success rate was bar none.

I would actually want Japan to make a natural horror film about this

I remember seeing this with my mom and thinking how tragic it must have been for these Japanese soldiers to be attacked and eaten by killer crocs if disease didn't get them first. My mom said not to feel too sorry for them since the Japanese caused a lot of trouble in China, Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam (our home country), during the war.

Something I just thought of. Due to the long life of the crocodile it's possible that some of the ones that remain could have actually been a part of the massacre of the Japanese soldiers!

I remember listening to this horrific account on a nature program on television when I was little. The show was Last Of The Wild and it was hosted and narrated by actor Lorne Greene. Lorne Greene’s narration of this account was chilling and memorable.

It's scary to think that some of those saltwater crocs that preyed upon the soldiers are still alive

Those crocs live quite a long time. It wouldn't be outrageous to say that the crocs that feasted on Japanese that day, some are still alive. Crazy to consider.

Amazing historical footage, amazing gruff masculine yet tender movie guy voice you can tell he longs for the touch of another man, and I love that this finally got to the motivation of the crocs that they were doing it for fun. Amazing investigative journalism. You should be on CNN or CNN + even.

Japanese soldiers: Are strong, have highly advanced weapons, have gone trough grueling training, etc. Crocodiles: Have sharp teeth and a varied diet.

Having heard of this story so many times I always imagine insane specimens that scientists had never seen before likely crossing that 22-23 ft maximum. Terrifying.

I would like to know how long the journey was through the swamp and how many times they stopped to rest..... 500 men is a lot. I can imagine the Japanese soldiers huddled up with their bolt actions pointed in every direction as they traverse through the swamp full of paranoia. You spot an alligator in the distance and keep your eye on it when you should have been paying attention to the one next to you

And to this day, not one Salty has been given a medal for their bravery and fearlessness in defending their island... a true shame! 🐊

These crocodiles live a long time. There's a chance that a few alive today are the ones that are a few of these men. Crazy

It’s scary but think what if there was some people who were left behind and saw the boat leaving in the horizon while yelling for help now that’s a scary thought
