I use beef gelatin to make homemade jello jigglers for my kids. Right now, as they eat through grapefruit, I take the rinds and squeeze all the extra juice out. Collect that over a week and you usually have enough to make jello jigglers (and it's pink for Valentine's Day!). I also sprinkle extra beef gelatin into my soups. 👍

My Mom in the 1960-1970’s always made her own jello and pudding. I never knew there was boxed jello until I lived on my own She would grate carrots and raisins and nuts and fruits and whipped cream from our cows. There was a meal in her jello sometimes made in a big cake pan and cut into squares. I have 10 brothers and a sister We are a lot of jello Thanks for bringing it back 💕

So smart of you. If someone wants to try, most grocery have small boxes of plain available. You brought back memories of making homemade after surgery to improve hair and nails. It did make a significant difference in loss and thickness. Having with fresh Apple's or grapes makes a nice after meal treat and is satisfying so you aren't running for the cookies you baked earlier. Appreciate you sharing.

Yep! It cases condensation on the lid that can drip down on the food. May not be a desired effect. And, it slows the cooling process because heat is trapped under the lid.

An idea. "Sült" (in Estonian) is a savory meat jelly. If you have time and intrest Google it and let Google translate some recipies. I unfortunately could not find anything traditional that is in English. We have had that on family table for years, it is eaten cold, and usually on birthdays or Christmas diner or something, I love it with splash of vinegar on top, but people eat it with horseradish or mustad also (our mustad is like concenrrated straight from seda with little extra, nothing like the mustad most common in US). My granny has special wavy bowl like molds for it (they are small like high tart backing things I have seen people use), but most, who don't have the molds, use bowls for making it. In soviet times, it was a way to use scraps basically, all the pigs legs they got were boiled long and used up. My granny made a huge amount of it. Most were put into jars and into cellar, some were into the molds and ready to eat. When needed, these yarfuls were melted and poured into molds, left to set.
