The Jerk (1979) SYNOPSIS: Navin (Steve Martin) believes he was born a poor black child in Mississippi. He is, however, actually white. Upon figuring this out, he heads north to St. Louis to find himself. After landing a job at a gas station, Navin is excited to discover his name printed in the new phone book. This ratification of his existence leads him from one misadventure to another -- as he invents gadgets, dodges bullets, joins the carnival and seeks love in the arms of beautiful Marie (Bernadette Peters).

I own this movie, because it's one of the funniest movies of all time. It's not just funny, it's cute. And Bernadette Peters is absolutely adorable. I quote it often and am always pleased when someone 'gets it'

My mom had me watch this when I was in my teens. I don't think I laughed so hard as a 13 year old(now 37). Steve martin has always been a comedic genius.

see how trailers worked back then.. they made immersion.. so you actually want to see it.. today, they show you everything from the movie, then you go to cinema to confirm what parts of the trailer are missing in the movie.. this is the future, baby ! ^,^

first movie I saw Steve Martin in, was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. John Candy was a perfect co-star. If you haven't seen it, look it up.
