I love the way Kreese delivers the line "but I like that"

I like how Mr. Miyagi never once blinks during the conversation Never giving his back to the enemy as he backs away

One thing I just realized about this scene. Miyagi wasn't just going to Cobra Kai to ask Kreese to have his students leave Daniel alone, he also wanted to see what kind of style of Karate Kreese was teaching. The way he stands there in complete silence, watching everything. He's observing what kind of martial arts Cobra Kai was. It allowed Miyagi to know what techniques to teach Daniel to counter Cobra Kai style if his attempt at diplomacy failed.

I always liked how the two instructors nodded to each other even though they are enemies.

Pat Morita was great for this movie, not only for his acting but through excellent use of his height. He showed that being small means nothing and that he was a much bigger man than the karate class instructor. His strength, courage and overall humility shined through his eyes. Great, underrated actor.

Pat Morita neither knew karate or had a Okinawan accent yet still was able to convince audiences that he checked both boxes. What a performance

This makes me wish Pat Morita could've been a part of Cobra Kai. I know not many people live to their late 80s and it's unrealistic to wish that. But the character of Miyagi really brought soul to this story. He is missed.

Miyagi is one of the coolest characters in the history of cinema. Pat deserved an oscar for playing him so well. And the movie is really about Kreese vs Miyagi, not Johnny vs Daniel. And Miyagi clearly being the better man, the better fighter, and most importantly the better teacher. It's why Johnny lost, and they took down all of his students. Because Miyagi is that good.

I love that subtle little nod Mr. Miyagi & Kreese give each other at the end. Even though they are Rivals, they still give each other the respect, acknowledging the scope of their influence & fighting ability...

I quoted this scene when I met William Zabka and Ralph Macchio last month at a convention. I was behind a screen and didn't step into view until I called out, "What is the problem, Mr. Lawrence?" It made my life when William Zabka said he thought it was really Martin Kove screaming the lines.

I thought Kreese was a cartoon villain but Terry takes the cake in that category 😂

I have discovered a new appreciation for this scene in-particular. Mr Miyagi doesn’t blink once during the confrontation. And of course “Always look eye!”. Outwardly he’s calm and collected, but I get the sense that he was waiting for Kreese to throw a sucker punch, and he was ready for it.

"WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, MR. LAWRENCE? I mean, really, Mr. Lawrence, I'm trying to help you ... I care about you, Mr. Lawrence ... you know you can always come and talk to me."

Who knew 34 years later Daniel would be training Johnny's son karate.

John Kreese is a fascinating character and fantastically brought to life with excellent acting; well done to Martin Kove.

I often forget how much of Karate Kid is about father figures and how men from older generations had come home broken from war. Both Miyagi and Kreese had war trauma, but where Kreese channeled his trauma through violence and bullying, Miyagi had chosen a life of peace and lonesomeness. Karate Kid becomes an allegory for how young men without fathers may come to a fork in the road - power through violence or maturity through discipline?

These guys are so over the top there's no way you can forget them

It is just impossible to rewatch this, and not think about what will happen to Johnny, Daniel and Kreese in the future after watching Cobra Kai

So many movies after this one tried to copy the same "formula", different martial arts, with different actors, slightly different storylines etc. but none has matched the heart and charisma of the Karate Kid.

I don't agree with Kreese's methods, but he had a good point at :02 with the student who looked away for less than a second. Even Miyagi would have sanctioned Daniel for losing his concentration, even if for less than a second.

Watching this after seeing Kreese's time in Vietnam, you can tell he really has been to the other side.

I like how calm Miygai was. He was always relaxed but ready to fight at the same time.

Kreese is so butthurt about this that he is still trying to fight Daniel 38 years later in 2022. So much so that Johnny is now on Daniel's side.

What really surprises me about Mr. Miyagi is not just that he is an insane grandmaster of Karate, no what surprises me is that he is an actual adult, after watching Cobra Kai and seeing every adult act like a confused teenager and an ineffectual parent/teacher, and then rewatching this movie, I end up realizing that Mr. Miyagi truly was lightyears ahead from everyone else in terms of wisdom and self discipline so many years before the series, he never truly went out to look for a fight or for justice or anything like that, he was not ruled by ego or pride or anger, he was always patient and understanding, yet firm and the same time he wasn't looking to take control of his student/son figure the way Daniel mostly did, he knew when to let someone find their own way and when someone needed a challenge that maybe was a little outside the box, he was aware of reality unlike most modern parents when it comes to bullies, he was a true adult figure in Daniel's life in such a way that even in the future years after his demise he was still able to be a guide to Daniel and pretty much everyone else.

What the hell is Tommt doing showing up for a karate class with his arm in fucking sling? Is Kreese so insane he's likely to come to his house and drag him out to the dojo if he doesn't show up for training even with a busted arm? And does Kreese really not question why his prize student has a black eye and his cronie is all banged up? You'd think if asked, the Kai would have told him "we got jumped by a tiny Asian guy whilst beating up an Italian stick insect" and Kreese would have immediately realized who Daniela nd Miyagi were the second they walked in...

"What are you looking at, finish him!" LOL Kreese is STILL scary.
