The price of honor. The power of friendship. THE KARATE KID, Part II. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita re-create the roles that brought them international acclaim in The Karate Kid. Karate student, Daniel Larusso (Macchio), accompanies his wise and whimsical teacher, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), to his ancestral home in Okinawa. For the boy, it's a journey to an exotic new world offering new clues to his mentor's secret past. For Miyagi, it's an opportunity to see his father one last time and tore kindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy). But Miyagi's return also re-ignites a bitter feud with long-time enemy, Sato (Danny Kamekona) - a feud that involves young Daniel in a brilliant collision of cultures and combat. Now, far away from the tournaments, the cheering crowds and the safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when teacher becomes student and the price of honor is life itself.

@@MrYoumitube The "palpatine" of the Karate would would maybe be the man who trained Kreese and Silver. As easily as Miyagi beat them their own teacher could have destroyed them too. Yoda and Palpatine fought each other to a standstill in Revenge of the Sith. If this fictional universe is ever expanded with books and novels like Star Wars or Star Trek were I want Miyagi to face that Korean man (forgot his name) who trained Silver and Kreese maybe in continuity during the 9 or so years that elapsed between KK3 and KK4 (KK3 had to take place in 1985 and because the year is not mentioned in KK4 I will default to the year it was FILMED until told otherwise).

@@vjreimedia People keep calling Miyagi the "yoda" of the Karate world but Star Wars was filmed earlier. Part 2 is my favorite as well, the writers give us the full back-story for the Miyagi character which filled in all the gaps from the original film's story. I also thought Sato and Chozen were more formidable opponents than Kreese and Johnny.

Watching this now (after Cobra Kai) I appreciate the backstory even more. And just this scene alone, look at all the attention to detail, going on in the village (in the background) while Miyagi and Daniel are walking around. From the villagers to the houses, the landscape and peacefulness. Very fun to observe, I look at this film differently now. (And yes, i realize it was filmed in Hawaii...lol). But they did a good job of creating the Okinawan village.

They need to do a prequel Karate Kid movie that shows Mr. Miyagi learning karate from his father, his friendship and then falling-out with Sato, and finally his coming to America. That would be an epic movie and would make a millions at the box office!

distance relationships tend to be a bust, especially in the pre-internet days Other than that, the *only* thing that bugged me about that relationship was the rushed breaking up with Ali to make it happen. That's why I think plots of the 2nd and 3rd movies should appear in the opposite order, so ya get movie 1 as normal, 2 dealing with the fallout from 1, and 3 going to Okinawa and finally wrapping things up for a more complete-feeling trilogy. Though, that's mostly because it always seemed weird that after Okinawa, Daniel wouldn't be able to take on Silver's thugs and would be so easily swayed away from Mr Miyagi. They also wouldn't have had to necessarily write out Daniel's Okinawan love interest like they did either, or explain why certain characters weren't there during the Cobra Kai strikes back plot.

Does rule #2 really say “first learn rule #1”, or is rule #2 simply more advanced than Miyagi thought Daniel was prepared for? That would fit Miyagi’s character, using this as gentle way to keep Daniel’s learning in pace with his training, without resorting to “You are not ready for that yet.” It reminds me of a wooden sign affixed near the entrance of Stew Leonard’s where rule #1 was “The Customer is Always Right.” And rule #2 was “If the Customer is Ever Wrong, Re-read Rule #1.” Edit: I looked it up, and rule #2 does say that. The specific translation is “take rule #1 to heart.”

Where the hell does Chozen get off calling Miyagi a "coward". Miyagi could beat the crap out of Chozen with one hand while using the other to pick his own nose and he would have beaten Sato too. Remember earlier in the movie when Sato kept hitting that big piece of wood but it would not break? Well when Sato was trapped under the same size piece of wood Miyagi broke it in half with just one swing and to add to the difficulty factor it was during a storm which would be distracting and if he was not especially careful the force of his swing would either kill or very badly injure Sato. To me that proves that he was vastly more powerful than Sato.

well since miyagi won't fight sato and miyagi ran from okinawa when sato wanted to fight him for that girl.. that's when, chozen knows miyagi can beat him up but not his sensei(uncle).. so that's I'm thinking..
@StygianWolf
@StygianWolf 2 жыл бұрын
People keep bringing up that stupid piece of wood as a sign that Sato would have lost to Miyagi. Sato was smacking that wood for hand strengthening purposes. Thing is there's a very likely possibility Miyagi himself thought he would lose in a straight fight against Sato; which is why he provided Daniel with his will and testament when Sato finally forced his hand into fighting. Either Miyagi thought there was a likely possibility he would lose; or didn't have any intention of fighting Sato back and was prepared to willingly die in that fight.
@Zurround
@Zurround 2 жыл бұрын
@@StygianWolf 1. I think Sato had been trying his whole life to break that piece of wood but he was never able to as it was almost impossible. 2. In fights there are PROBABILITY SCALES. Note that if Sato wins he would almost certainly kill Miyagi and Miyagi knew this. I will make up numbers just to make a point and I ADMIT that those numbers might not be accurate. If 2 fighters are a perfectly even match its 50, 50 with the total always being 100. But let's say that Miyagi has 84, 16 advantage. That is HUGE compared to an even match but it means Sato has almost a one in six chance of winning so it would be almost as dangerous for Miyagi as Russian Roulette. IF the scale was 90,10 in favor of Miyagi then he has a one in ten chance of death. That is A LOT WHEN ITS DEATH. If I gave you a 10 sided die and told you that if you roll a 4 you die you would probably write your will. I think Miyagi definitely had the advantage but it was not the kind of advantage he had against Kreese and Silver which was probably something like 99,1 or 99.5, 0.5 as he totally outmatched them. Hell even if he outmatched Sato 95, 5 that is still a one in 20 chance of death, which is enough to be worth writing a will just in case. 3. Consider this: Had the script writers decided that they would have their fight Miyagi would HAVE to win because no way would Sato spare him and the writers wanted the character and actor to do 2 more movies which he did so the writers would have to keep him alive hence he would have to win.

Pat wasn't in good health, and his stunt double looked nothing like him, which is why most of Miyagi's fight scenes are either short and simple. I think the directors did want a scuffle to be broken up, but couldn't get any footage they liked. Also, I think Miyagi's eyes told the story better than a fight would have anyway.

I lived in between Main Land Japan (Iwakuni, Yokosuka, Atsugi, Tokyo) & Okinawa (Naha & Shuri) for 21 years. I returned to Okinawa in 2019 (after being away for 13 years), and the majority of the elders I knew passed away, but I also knew their children, so the connection was still there. I now speak w/them weekly & plan to return in 2022 (hopefully COVID-19 will be under control by then). Okinawa is BEAUTIFUL, but pollution coming from U.S Bases, Japan, S. Korea & China has made it difficult to maintain its cleanliness. However, Okinawa has done a great job at keeping clean regardless.

I loved the movie. However, I have some problems with it. I spent two years in Okinawa while in the Marines, and as a history buff I spent a lot of my off duty time travelling the island to see the historical sights from WWII. I also lived off base in Kin Ville outside of Camp Hansen with an Okinawan girl named Kako. She was not only a wonderful girl and a fine companion but also a marvelous tour guide! She took me to places of great interest that most G.I.s on the island never even knew existed. She also introduced me to her parents and I became close with her father, who had been a Japanese soldier during the war. There were times when we went to visit her parents that her father would take me out to authentic Okinawan "clubs" (for lack of a better word) that were "off limits", so to speak, to foreigners. I was only welcomed because I was with him. The point is that I know Okinawa like the back of my hand, and the representation of the island in this movie is, shall we say, farcical to say the least.
@richarddexter7641

Three years at Kadena for me. And yeah, they certainly show this village as being backwards/far behind the times. My family and I explored the island often, most every free weekend, and got to see some incredible sights as well as some terribly sad ones thanks to the war. It is on my bucket list to revisit Okinawa, which, even in the 1980s when I was stationed there, was as western as any place I served. Certainly, they'd have been well aware and well prepared for the typhoon depicted in the movie. Glad you got to experience the true Okinawa. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have the full experience, but what I we did get to see was incredible. Oddly enough, we'd get pictures developed and my wife, who was a civilian employee that worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on the island, would come to work and show what we saw to her Japanese counterparts. She was consistently amazed that the ladies would ask her where we had gone and taken the beautiful pictures, only to be told it was some place or another on the island. To which the ladies would respond that there's no place that beautiful on Okinawa. SMH. How we overlook the beauty in our own backyard is beyond me.

Yukie was not Miyagi's wife. Miyagi married his wife after he fled to America. Yukie was going to marry Sato in Okinawa but fell in love with Miyagi instead. I miss all the patience, downtime, and lulls these early movies had. Time to think. Time to process. Time to breathe. I like Cobra Kai but it’s modern editing removed the ‘patience’ element that was such a huge part of the originals.

I've said this to many people, today's movies are pretty much 10 second ADD bursts where it's a quick scene then another and another. There's no time for deeper human feeling and emotion where you can connect with characters on a deeper level. With Cobra Kai, there are sometimes those deeper moments with Johnny and how his life changed over the years, but there could be more of those kinds of deeper emotional scenes.
