Realistically it's gonna be some chinese knockoff with russian branding on it like it was for most russian brands for last 15 years or so. But knowing russian ways, it will be like this: 5 billions of rubles will be spent on development, of which 20000 rubles (around $100 nowadays) will be spent on buying chinese console and 200 rubles on buing colored tape to put on top of that console to make it RUSSIAN. And then they will present it to president along with some cheap game demo cobbled together within 2 weeks and will get 5 billions more for mass production of which only around 2 million will be realized and everything else will be ugh... spent on other expenses like project lead's new car.

There's no need for custom hardware anymore aside from case/controls design. Look at insane amount of gaming UMPCs coming every other month. Even Switch did only two things differently. Detachable joycons with motion controls and ability to switch from docked mode to portable on the fly. Otherwise it's just a rather boring tablet. And speaking of PS5 and XBox. They are losing the war with PCs and mobile phones. And from what I heard what they are planning to make is ARM-based lightweight portable device. And the other is pretty much another Linux-based x86 machine. Why reinvent the wheel when steam deck clones and Android portable consoles just work so well. You take a Linux distro, design some interface for gamepad or take AOSP and add some gaming features and you're golden. Especially if controllers will be decent. The biggest issue nowadays is lack of good games, most big budget AAA games are so bad and indie scene is going too much into copy paste stuff. Out of *hundreds* of games there will be maybe 2-3 really good and 10 passable.

Russia itself is not much of a console gaming culture, just like the rest of Eastern Europe. PC gaming has always been more popular there; only Sony managed to get a 'decent' foothold, but nothing near the Western European levels, let alone the US/Japan. You can see that easily by checking what kinds of games were popular there (Heroes of Might and Magic, Gothic, Jagged Alliance and its various clones, various RTS games such as Civilization, FPS games etc.)

China is honestly more likely to come up with something interesting, but China/Russia are more so PC gaming cultures, rather than console gaming cultures (like the US/Japan). Also, mobile phones are a huge factor nowadays. That's probably where the real innovation will happen, but of course - we'll see about that.
