As someone who hasn't watched even one episode of I-LAND, this debut gave me chills, and I was VERY shookt, I regretted not watching the show. Such a promising group.

One thing I really love about this song/group, is that they aren’t throwing unnecessary raps into them just because they feel like they need to.

I feel like belift didn’t really highlight the members individually because they needed to show that the group is united after I-land. Viewers are used to seeing them pitted against each other and as individuals so belift probably thought it would be better to play into their group dynamics.

They are part of Belift Lab which is a collaborative label between Bighit and CJ E&M. So, yeah they are kinda part of Bighit

i think that the main reason they chose to make “given-taken” their debut song because the message behind it is so much deeper. it describes how people thought that these trainees had it easy because they came from bighit/belift (given), but in reality, they had to work to get through the show (“taken” their energy and hard work). although the song and music video might seem a bit serious and dark, i thought that it had fit the trainees themselves and told their story of how they got where they are

actually no nothing in the mv has relations to i-land, the vampire theme was actually quite a shocker for a lot of people that watched the show since it came out of nowhere, we weren’t really expecting them to go there. the only thing i could even say was alluded in i-land is one single lyric (dive into the red sun, second verse sung by sunoo) that could make a reference for a background of one of the performances (I believe its either Dive Into You or Flame On, im not sure) but that is such a minute detail im not sure it was even intentional (we all know kpop backgrounds can be wild... yes im talking about loonas giraffes.). i liked this debut a lot, the horror concept in kpop is really underrated and i would love for other groups to dive into it like enhypen and dreamcatcher did.

i think this is the first time i’ve genuinely disagreed with your opinion but i’m on the complete opposite side of you. this debut was the most memorable and unique debut from a group i’ve ever seen, i loved the fact that they’re already starting it off with a storyline and how dark and twisted it is. i’ve never seen something like this from a debut group and even if i wasn’t familiar with the group bc of i-land, it instantly would have stuck in my mind and caught my attention because of how vastly different it is to any other debut video and group i’ve ever seen. i also disagree that it doesn’t give you something to remember the members by bc think it does a great job of pulling you in and getting you intrigued but then keeping an air of mystery around it bc i personally would’ve wanted to see more of the members after this video bc it would agave left me so intrigued and amazed.

I love how toned down and nuanced this debut was in a sea of noise and colour. Also sucker (haha) for the concept! I get it tho, it's really not GP friendly, see the views Aespa had in the first 24 hrs compared to this. It's very understated and niche. I love lo-fi music and horror so it's right up my alley.

In I-land they didn't really focus on vocals to be honest, they focused more on their performance and facial expressions so I hope in the future they really let their vocals shine

I get where you're coming from and I respect that but I am actually glad they didn't go for that typical debut formula wherein it's just showcasing all what they've got already and just giving off who they are in one go. In this way, it will make the audience more curious about who they are and later on, dig into them. I think them being a group under bighit labels and also promoted by Mnet is enough for them to expand their reach so maybe that is why they took this route. But I'm pretty sure that they will release an mv for another song from the album that is more light-hearted than this. Actually, this is the only dark-sounding song from the EP. :)

I personally loved the darkness of the MV. One of the things I like about BigHit is that their groups have a storyline they follow. I absolutely loved how they've established their plot. But yes, I'd love to hear more of their vocal ability.

Iland was actually a way to select the trainees of Belift/big hit who where better for the debut group. That’s why they’re a permanent group. We all know the debut was way too rushed... but they’re really talented. I also think that they had prepared the debut song before the show started, so no matter what who were going to debut that was the song and that way they can’t show their personal charms.

I actually like the horror elements of the MV but I see where you’re coming from! This song is a 10/10 for me though, it somehow gets better with every listen. I love that chorus a lot. Edit: studio choom performance video came out! maybe check that out?

this could be the i-land fan in me speaking, but i really quite enjoy that this music video doesn't focus on introducing the members. i've always had a bit of an issue with debut music videos in this sense, especially recently - it could be due to the fact that there's now a bit of a "culture" around finding yourself supporting new groups and getting into them via people you know, twitter, their variety shows etc. rather than comparing their kprofiles to the music video (like i was once doing a few years back). it could also just be that before kpop, i was very into music from the west, in which groups/ bands wouldn't really think of introducing the "charms" of their team through music video. it might also just be that i personally think the concept is a complete 180 from their personalities, since they're so young. it's interesting to hear a different take on it though, since most people i know share similar thoughts to me regarding debut music videos.

As someone who watched I-Land since day 1.. I've been rooting for them since the beginning I'm so proud that they've finally debuted also you should check out the entire album it's amazing

I love the creepy video, the song is great, and it's already on repeat, but I have to agree. A debut is supposed to be a "Here we are, this is what we can do" type of deal and they jumped straight into storyline so there wasn't much of that. This really would have made even more of an impact on me if they saved this for later. I'm still hype for the first comeback and the song got me crunk but for the first comeback I'd like to see more of them just being them. Thank you for the breakdown PD!

I really enjoyed this debut. It feels super original to me. I can't really think of any kpop songs that have the same vibe of this in concept or musically.

Fun fact: Jungwon, who is the second youngest in the group is the leader of Enhypen! I find that so interesting as I personally have veryyyy rarely seen someone from the maknae line being a leader!

For me this Mv feels like when a group with years of career want to try a mature concept more than a debut (but this dosen´t mean thats is a bad debut for me). And same as you, this mv isn´t my style, but it wasn't bad at all. Now, i really LOVE the song and i can´t stop listen to it, its gives me a similar vibe to Gfriend´s Apple (maybe just me). So, i´m looking forward their future comebacks, maybe i will stan them. I haven't had enough time to listen to their album, but the preview sounded really good, so I'm excited to hear it when I can. I was so exited to see your reacction to Given-Taken and we have similar thoughts, so i´m happy with it. you say that there's no high notes to show off their vocals, but Heeseung is hitting a B4 just before switching to falsetto. The song's range is Eb3->B4->Eb5 ! It's actually quite a difficult song although it's very dark pop

Our debut album and lead single "Given-Taken" captures our reality of having formed a team after selection on l-Land. Heeseung is in charge of their vocals (no official position yet) but he's not the type who belts (he can, tho). His voice is actually good and stable especially when he sings live (prolly one of my fav voices). Abt the MV and the song, at first I wasn't hooked and maybe that's bcs of the interruption just like what you pointed out but after another listen, I liked it. They're actually very talented considering their ages. The oldest (main vocal) is '01 liner and the youngest (main dancer) is '05 liner. I hope you can check them out more!

Given-Taken is very similar with manga/anime named "The Promised Neverland". genre of anime is Dark fantasy, Sci-fic and thriller. it's a story about children learning that the outside world is bigger and crueler that they ever imagined, and trying their best to survive.

The boys made a great performance of this song at the FNS music festival. Also, they made live performances of the other songs of the album: 10 months, let me in, and flicker. And they have a dance music video of "Chamber 5" which is not on their album. More facts about them: They are all young, with ages between 14 and 19. They are all visuals. They all are all-rounders. They have an Australian, an American, and a Japanese in the group. Also, they have the youngest leader in K-pop which only has 16 years old. I hope this helps, all the boys have a lot of potential, and I am sure that they will have a bright future ^^

I think Belift and Bighit want ENHYPEN to have their own style of music so that everytime you can hear their song you know its them because that of their signature style❤️

Actually ENHYPEN is a group under Belift which is a company made by the merger of Bighit and CJ ENM. 3 of ENHYPEN members named Heeseung, Jay and Sunghoon have been Bighit trainees for some years now. other members named Jake, Sunoo, Jungwon and Ni_Ki we're casted or auditioned into Belift directly. So all of them are actually under Belift now. They are a permanent group and their formation, I-Land show everything is very different from Produce series. Their promotional stuffs are done by CJ ENM and their album production, practice of dance vocal etc plus choreography etc is done by Bighit. So they're managed by a company made by these 2 companies called Belift. We will also have another version of I-Land (females) for which Belift auditions are already done.

My only complaint is that... BigHit picked these specific members to make a dance group, the power vocal was eliminated because their facial expressions weren't expressive enough for the producers... So why didn't BigHit showcase their dancing more...?

I think they didn't want to focus on a specific member,they didn't want to create sth like " heeseung and friends" or "jungwon and friends" because during I-land there were many people that pointed out that x has more screentime than y . I really suggest for every new fan to check their first comeback , I truly believe that mv made justice for all 7 members.

Honestly I loved this song. I heard the song first and then fell in love with the group and then watched I-Land. This has to be one of my favorite debut songs. I feel like maybe they wanted to start of with a mature sound or concept since a lot of times debut songs are kind of a cute concept.

Everything is tame as they seemingly broke out of their cells in the MV. They will seriously shine later on. 🤟 i hope they wow you eventually 👏

As someone who watched I-Land week by week and has been waiting for Enhypen's debut (all my faves made into the final group!), I really loved the title track and whole mini album from the first listen! The members grew and improved so much over the course of the show, and they seem even more confident and comfortable on stage now. They're def still a diamond in the rough, they're so young and their synergy isn't super strong yet because they've only been training as a group for a little over 2 months (compared to TXT who trained together for a year before debuting), but they have so much potential

I bought a hoodie! Can wait to receive it. I love supporting a business that has a message I can get behind. Love that they're eco friendly too. Now in terms of ENHYPEN. I think that this is the type of concept that is appropriate for their specific debut for the times we're living in and how people might be feeling. I'm very sensitive to song lyrics so I'm always reading and trying to get a feel for what the song is about. The lyrics are actually very uplifting within the dark themes. As someone who has watched the show iland and has gotten to know more about these boys I can say that they're very aligned with bighit's mantra . "Artists for healing". The message of the music should always come first but that being said, it is absolutely meant for the ears and eyes of a specific type of person. Please look forward to more ENHYPEN content and thank you for your videos. I really enjoy them!

BH is definitely going for literature-driven themes when it comes to their music videos. Instead of creating a storyline solely for that MV, they try to make universes through the series of MVs they create which is rarely seen in the K-music scene (for now). Aside from discussing self-love and taboo topics through songs. I think in the years to come, this has the potential to be a trend since more major entertainment companies are already making their move towards this side of content creation.

I actually agree. Enhypen didnt use the typical "boy crush concept" the "i love you girl concept" or "im cute, im bad look at me" concept. The thing i love about this debut is that is way different from the things we are use to see and thats amazing, people need to change that already because its just getting boring and not interesting anymore. Given-Taken its no for everyone to love, just people that see their story and get interested in it can like this song. And im really proud of that, congrats to FRANT, ENHYPEN and WONDERKID for this iconic and amazing debut. Let them grow, they will be big.

I agree with you on the music video. That's why I fell in love with the performance music video instead. I wonder if big hit is trying to make it a thing, to have 2 music videos for a single (a story video for the idols to flex their acting and showcase their "saga", and a dance erformance video). After watching the performance video, I became an enhyphen fan because damn the choreography... Not only is the choreography well thought of to match the song, it a difficult choreography (synced pirouette spins after the bridge whatttt) and for a rookie group to be able to execute it... Bighit is just merciless on dance routines, even with rookie groups.

actually even after watching iland this song doesnt totally show anything about enhypen themselves probably because the song and album were prepared beforehand not knowing who will debut ...also side note bighit is only part of music production while mnet is doing promo so that explains the music having the bighit sound
