It ain't a YG style if the music video doesn't end with the artists partying or going crazy at the end.

I think the song really suits an 18 year old bright and lively kid. And I can tell she's really enjoying herself when she performs it! Maybe they're playing it a little safe so she can build up and keep up that confidence. My only complaint about this debut is her stage outfits lol.

Loved the song for her debut. I think it really captured who Somi is. I did like the mv but I do agree that it really isn't up to par with other YG and even black label mvs. You should definitely listen to the other song in album, "Outta My Head". It's so good and was written by Somi. I prefer it to birthday too.

“outta my head” is a banger that Somi composed and teddy loved it! That’s why it’s her b-side in music shows! It shows off a more mature Somi though. I think her debut represents her young and fresh vibes and as she said in showcase. “Birthday” is like her rebirth in this kpop industry. To me, I think it’s a good and strong debut and judging by some fans who prefer “Outta My Head”..we’ll see more Somi self-composed music in the future comebacks. But her personality and charisma is undeniable and she is super talented as well! So she’s going to do well as a solo artist and I’m sure she’ll blow up even more in her next comeback.

U can literally see the YG vibe all over this video and song. The drop, the styling everything screams YG and I love it tbh. U know that “I’m better than u” kinda vibe.

I love everything about her solo debut. I think the song, the styling, the video, it all fits Somi perfectly. And the b-side, which she wrote, is *killer.*

You know what the cake reminds me of? In the ending scene where it’s cut into the layers, it almost looks like the Produce 101 seating. That’s cool if it was intentional.

Well Somi said to Teddy that she wants her debut song to give off that familiar vibe which people knows her for which is fun and young.

Oh man, couldn't disagree with you more about the MV. The sheer variety in sets and outfits drew me in. Plus, I felt like it just did a good job of "re-introucing" Somi to the world by showing off her charismatic personality. Plus, I don't know, you don't get a lot of "bubbly" out of YG or Teddy, so seeing their take on it felt really novel. Really, the only thing that annoys me is that "Outta My Head" didn't get a MV. It's an awesome song, and a huge contrast to "Birthday." Deserves to be heard more.

Im whole heartedly supporting somi, birthday wasnt my fave when it first came out but after seeing it on live stages it grew on me. The b-side which she co-wrote is really good, and i think closer to her style as an artist in the future.

The song and MV are great, loud and fun! I'm kinda underwhelmed by her live performances but it's her solo debut and she will get better. She's getting more confident in her dancing and stage presence but I do hope there will be some more vocal focused performances. On this one or the next.

Somi actually was on of the finalists in Sixteen, which was the survival show from where Twice came out, so she technically had the possibility to debut in Twice! I think that's why you can feel the JYP influence, and I mean Somi herself must have been influenced in some part from the experience

4:51 well the "step" that she took back wasn't really because she wanted to... JYP are the ones who did nothing for her... she was kinda forced to take that step. We could see that she was really trying her best to promote herself in variety shows and things like that but JYP did nothing for her on her musical career... Well that doesn't matter anyway, the important thing is that she is here now and I think this song fits her verry well for her debut!

Now I understand what JYP meant when he told her in the Sixteen finale that she wasn't picked for Twice because she's more of an Artist than an Idol and needs to be by herself with more control over her music than part of a group. I don’t really like YG or its artists but this song was pretty fun and cool. The lyrics were a bit childish and bratty though for my liking. I still enjoy the MV and song tho so props to Somi👏🏻

I hope Somi's career lasts a long time and goes smoothly, but this song isn't for me. There are parts that I like, but it's very busy and I feel like it's too busy in places, especially in the last chorus. I think a bouncy song style like this is perfect for her debut, but I think the video could have been a bit more toned down in terms of props and the like. It reminds me of a mix between early Meghan Trainor and Miley Cyrus around Party in the USA era.
