There's actually three ways to make that chord. The third way is to get a running start and jump on the keyboard.

You have changed my approach to creating music

The reason it works as it does has only a coincidental relationship with Lydian mode. A major and minor third combined is a perfect fifth (7 half steps). When you stack enough perfect fifths on top of each other, you eventually go around the circle of 5ths and end up back where you began. You can open this chord up quite a bit and make it sound less like a tone cluster by voicing it in 5ths. That will give it a more majorish sound. If you voice backwards around the circle in 4ths, it will sound more minorish. This all has to do with the circle of 5ths and how it works and really very little to do with Lydian, except by coincidence in this arbitrarily selected construction.
