I also agree. If I won the lottery, ( which won't happen as I don't buy lottery tickets) my dream would be to set up a room with different instruments. Children come and try them. This. I begged my parents to let me learn guitar or saxophone for years. I was told I couldn't learn to play an instrument until I got older. When I turned 8 suddenly I was old enough but not to play an instrument I wanted to play. I asked for guitar, sax, drums or violin. They came up with a reason that each of my choices was a bad instrument to play. 3 years later they finally took me out of piano lessons when I was still miserable after every single lesson and recital, and had never "learned to enjoy it" like they told me I would. I had a mean teacher though, that was part of it

My daughter, Laura, choose the cello to learn because “it called to her”. You can’t find a better reason than that. The smallest kid choose the largest instrument there and the one that required an extra fee to rent lol. She had arthritis and asthma so she ruled out any that required blowing or holding arms up. I loved to hear her practice; you could feel it in your body and soul. Laura died in 2019 from her many medical woes. I use music to help me in my grief and the cello is especially comforting. Thank you two set for being both serious and goofy! I especially liked when you did some teaching with a kind and encouraging manner of giving advice. Much love from Laura’s mom 💕🐝💕

I can keep going if you like but I find myself getting tangled in "top twenty most famous pieces" vs. "things I like better" because my favorite Bach is 1052 and I'm pretty sure that's not the most famous Bach piece. @@cmmartti The song has definitely captured the most heartwarming melody in Finlandia! But I have to argue the rest of the piece is also epic. It is, after all, about a nation. I think it represented some darkness, then become very exciting (especially when you hear the triangle) and majestic. As one of the comments I saw below a performance, it makes me feel patriotic for a country that's not my own.

@Isthat C So do I, and thanks for asking that question :-D !! OK, please excuse mini rant here: Gaelic music is not folk music. We have our classical music (piobaireachd - pipe music going back 2-300 years, variations on a theme, very difficult to play), ancient poetic lays on harp, one of the finest song traditions in Western Europe, our popular music, from Victorian music hall through pop, rock and punk to hip hop, our choral music, church music, military music, dance music and yeah, some folk music too (though much of it not anonymous). And it is still being composed, in many genres. Gaelic music is music. Rant delivered. I'll see myself out.

@Isthat C a lot of classical music is based on folk music for one, also folk music has a very long cultural history. I think that's just my personal definition of classical music ehe Theyre all bangers tbh I also listen to sea shanties

3:50 I’m a pianist, and a Piano can Crescendo/Decrescendo, it just takes enough skill to be able know when to play the keys lightly and then play them hard. Take Bohemian Rhapsody for instance in about 1:35 into the song he crescendos with multiple of the same octave note (B flat) in his left while his right is playing rising chords that get louder with each change Next take a look at Chopin’s Nocturne Op.9 No.2 this song is constantly crescendoing and de-crescendoing with every couple of notes if you listen to it. So a piano can in fact Crescendo/Decrescendo, Pianissimo/Fortissimo, poco a poco. All that good stuff. So by your guy’s standards The Piano is a Superior Instrument.
@frostdemon6787

Pretty late, but I do believe what they meant in Crescendo is doing so in the same note. Piano, once you press down a key you can't make that sound louder anymore.

Speaking about memorising names for pieces, I would love if you guys did a "how to read piece titles" videos, and talked about the structure of (for example) symphony pieces, what the major/minor means, how different tempos are named, etc. It would really help a lot of people who are new to classical music!

Thank you so much TwoSet, I never really had interest in playing the violin, like at all until I started watching you guys about a month ago, and I also too wanted to enjoy playing the violin and understand and relate to other violin players. Just got my violin 20 minutes ago, time for 40 hours of practice 🎻.

3:17 Organ. Signed, a pianist. 3:44 Also, something I learned today: A crescendo pedal is a large pedal commonly found on medium-sized and larger pipe organs (as well as digital organs), either partially or fully recessed within the organ console. The crescendo pedal incrementally activates stops as it is pressed forward and removes stops as it is depressed backward.

I would just like to point out in the most friendly manner possible that yes, Brett and Eddy, we pianists can in fact execute a crescendo. We just need more than one note to do so. *casual voice to cover immediate piano protectiveness* *held back challenges of what piano can do that violin can't* *forced smile as I rewatch "which instrument is better" to calm myself* XD
