I worked at a sandwich factory for a run of 8 miserable summer weekends about 25 years ago when I was a student. The process hasn't changed, and it's just as bleak and depressing as it looks. I remember things like the smell of cold hamburger gherkins, the monotony of scooping egg mayo onto a slice of bread hundreds of times over, my hands freezing despite our disposable gloves as I pulled handfuls of chilled diced chicken from a blue bag, and only getting two 10 minute breaks a day where we could have vending machine tea or coffee, and a free surplus packaged sandwich. I wanted to quit after one day, but my mum told me it was only for the summer and to stick it out. It wasn't till after I'd gone back to uni that she confessed she'd once taken a part time job there and walked off after only 3 hours.

I won't eat ready made sandwiches since I worked 5 years at greencore , every day without fail women's noses were dripping because kf the cold into the sandwiches every couple of minutes. I see it with my own eyes, not only this but the amount of insects found inside the lettuce and then put into the sandwiches and not reported because they are being payed so badly. This is another thing I seen with my own eyes. Not saying other foods off the shelf are any different, but when you see it for real yourself , it puts you off that particular food life . Greencore northampton , worst experience of my working life. Makes you depressed to wake up in the morning, knowing you will have to wear smelly used Wellington boots., hair nets that mice have been crawling through, this is only some of the things I have to say

@@iAMChrisCC they are testing the usability of automation in an very simplified manner so they can get statistics on fail rate and longevity of the arm to see if it turns out the 800k investment was worth it. Start simple otherwise if it screws up its screws up. @@TheFreshSpam Thanks for the reply.. I was thinking that some sort of bread dispenser would be simpler since the robot seems to have a lot more capability than this simple job, but your explanation makes sense!
@TheFreshSpam
@TheFreshSpam 2 жыл бұрын
@@iAMChrisCC For sure tho, could easily make a dedicated mechanical dispenser just for the bread but I think manufacturers are looking for fast modularity and quick setup time with the arms making it so you need less design engineers having to create specialist one off machines that are hard to keep manufacturing special small parts and only do one tiny specific task. The arms lower inventory space for parts as you need only a specific set of items for them From what I know they are looking to make use of many generic robotic arms that have way higher functionality than the job they do but can be quickly scaled up, moved or given a new task in the factory chain and not need an army of trained engineers know everything about the specfic product line process and instead let technicians load up different programs and load new patterns for the arms to work to and specialise in one model that can be updated As factory's now are highly prone to price changes, economic turmoil and legislative issues, and so can be packed up and moved quicker with these arms that do many jobs rather than the latter, where one screw loose and mistime can ruin an entire line of product
