The first verse I heard of this then, new track, I knew very well it was a tribute to LA's very own Jim Ladd, the Lonesome Cowboy.

One of his best songs as far as I'm concerned, too tooo underrated. Beautiful song which actually tells the truth. RIP Tom,hope you're still performing in rock heaven. A job well done.

Tom petty said it so well as he showed his love for radio and free form individualism of the on air personality,Sadly today as I look back at my 54 plus years in Broadcast I can turn on the radio and hear three or four companies controlling what is played and the voice tracker sounds the same in Charlotte,Birmingham or Los Angeles.I remember when we used to sign a yearly document that we were not taking Payola or doing Plugola.Now with few programmers controlling numerous radio stations it makes one wonder.Tom Petty gave us so many great songs in his short lifetime between The Heartbreakers & The Traveling Wilburys but the one as a radio guy who loved and related to The Music that Tom Petty hit the nail on the head with "THE LAST DJ" R.I.P Tom Petty as slowly but surely you are putting THE TRAVELING WILBURYS back together for the forthcoming Heavenly Tour.

don,t you know that the radio suits hated this. like Tom Petty has other songs on this album. but no he has to play this one. i say Tom keep doing it . maybe one day radio will be like it was years ago. i can only hope.
