@Identical REactions, 43:47 This is a HUGE cliffhanger, man, lol. LOL knows Joel is lying, you can hear it in her voice and see it in her demeaner. She lied to Joel and Tess at the start of the journey, telling them that she was alone when she was bit in the mall. Ellie comes clean with Joel, telling him the truth and asks him to tell her the truth, and he instead doubles down on the lie he originally told her. Why? Because she has survivors guilt. She feels that she owes Riley, Tess, Sam and Henry. Joel's lie is important because Ellie is stuck. His lie sets her free, allows her to move past her guilt and to finally start living, living a real life among people who love her, really love her. Had Marlene and the Fireflies told Ellie the truth, back in Boston, that she was going to have to die for a cure/vaccine to be made, she would have told them to F-off before the journey ended. But they would have taken her anyway--they kept her captive for 30 weeks, chained to heater. Ellie was their prisoner. Ellie never really had a choice in all this, but Marlene tried making her feel comfortable by tell her lies--Ellie thought that they'd draw her blood and run some tests. I think Joel and Tess thought there was bit more to it than that, but they didn't ask too much into it because Ellie was cargo, property of the Fireflies. They referred to her as cargo, remember? Ellie was theirs and they were speaking on her behalf, which is why she never really had a say in the matter. The Fireflies are David. They were going to take what they wanted from Ellie, consent be damned. Joel was a lot like FEDRA really, like Captain Kwong. He cared about Ellie, and he wanted Ellie to have a say regarding her life and future. Yes, he was emotionally compromised, but had Marlene done as he had asked, taken her to Ellie and let him hear Ellie say that she wanted to give her life to science, Joel would have hated it, but he would have accepted it. The fact that they were so willing to disregard her wishes and do away with her life at a chance--this procedure wasn't guaranteed--really rubbed him the wrong way. Joel was taken aback at the realization that the doctors were going to have to crack her skull open and brain, that was the only way to begin the procedure. Ellie thought they need blood, but I imagine that Joel thought that they'd need her bone marrow, blood and lots of it. He likely thought that they'd need her for a few months to get the amount necessary to do what they needed, but he didn't think that they'd kill her to get what they wanted, and I doubt Ellie even thought of that as a possibility, as she even asked Joel what he was going to do after the Fireflies had gotten enough of her blood. She wanted to know what was next for them--she had dreams, and the Fireflies were going to snatch them away, and Joel wasn't having it. He made sure to kill everyone involved (save for two nurses) as he didn't want anyone coming after them. He lied to Ellie to erase her survivor guilt. Joel can live with this. He wasn't going to let another die, not when he had the skills to protect her. The question is, can Ellie. Will she let this go? I guess we'll have to wait two years or so to find out when season two finally drops! This was a pretty faithful game adaptation! Bill and Frank's story was the biggest deviation from the story, but a very good one. I prefer this story to the game one, and Kansas' story was combined with another area, I forget which and fleshed out, but it still told the same story, so I'm not mad at it. In most cases, this series added and built on what was already there and made it better. Best of all 90% of the game or so is here, I image the same will be true for season two, though I think heard that the second game will be split into two season given how much bigger that story is in comparison to this one. Nice reaction fellas!

Ashley Johnson played Ellie in the game and Ellie’s mom in the series and had Ellie’s knife. Marlene is best friends with Ellie’s mom. Giraffe is real. Damn drs and fireflies not telling Ellie she’s not going to survive the procedure. Joel had to lie to Ellie. They went back to Tommy’s town.

a great show to watch would be orphan black. As for What Anna gives Ellie, she gave Ellie her knife which she uses in the show, her jacket which Ellie wears in episode 4, and from what I heard a note to her that she left in the jacket(a note that you can see and read in the game).

Isnt it crazy how game ellie (aka actress who plays ellie’s mom) looks and sounds like bella?! They didnt even cast bella based on that…cast based on acting audition.

The attempted suicide is also why his hearing is so bad, remember when the brothers snuck up on them in episode 5 and Joel didn't hear.

I remember how I felt and how those ending split the fan base back in 2013 when the game came out. 10 yours later and I feel the same. I understand why he did what he did, but he really doomed the world so I can't really be behind it either.
