It is very bittersweet when you are reminded of flash games that were free and didn't require anything from the player. Nowadays you have apps on your phone that require you to watch ads, pay to win features, and limited creativity. My son just missed the best gaming era but I will be sure to get him on that when I can. My favorite flash game was Sonny followed by The Last Stand.

The Last Stand single handed lay got me hooked on anything related to zombies, survival, and the whole concept of a final glorious death.

And then there's The Last Stand: Aftermath, which is flawed but further develops the series in a sort of in between of the first three, Dead Zone, and more modern roguelites - it's really cool seeing how the devs have grown over the years

Oh god what a trip, I've not played these type of games since I was like 12, I'm 28 now. Watching this really makes me want to go back in time and relive the first time playing these games lol

Pro tip, you should always spend your first few levels putting all your hours into searching for survivors. There is a hidden mechanic that amplifies every hour you spend based on how many survivors you have. Getting 4 survivors early allows you to quickly search compounds for weapons.

you forgot one extremely important, the last stand: dead zone. i tell you, it was so freaking amazing, the raiding and looting missions were so well crafted and progression was excelently paced, i wish it was still online

I remember being absolutely terrified of that zombie game as a kid. I remember holding out until they broke through and when they got me I closed out heart racing and terrified.

God this brings back the chill I had as a kid playing this, I live out in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma I’m a trailer with my family, just remember staying up on my ass internet and playing this at night and the eerie feeling it gave me. Love it

Fun fact the last stand was the origins of Call of Duty zombies. They made the mode after taking inspiration from the flash game.

The last stand was amazing. I loved how you could scavenge and then defend with survivors you find. Also love how if the zombies break the fort all your companions ditch you, but if you survive they're back the next night

When this game showed up on steam. I didn't wishlist it. I immediately got it. I was undoubtedly happy, a core memory unlocked, in middle school computer lab on Fridays " free day " trying to complete this series. Pushing further each week.

it's pretty impressive that this game series inspired the zombies mode for COD World At War and makes me happy that we're seeing flash treasures seeing a resurgence. from Two Left Thumbs till now, from small little gameplay videos in the old days to full blown retrospectives although it is a great that that the series died off, to me it officially died thanks to Dead Zone, i didn't play it since i didn't know how to register accounts at that time but i knew that something was off with it. and it seems like ConArtist ran off with the money like a snake oil salesman just after TLS Aftermath (no new updates since November 16 2022)

I remember several flash games, and a few that taught me things. For example, there was a puzzle game that taught me color theory better than what any art class ever did. The games I remember the most are Madness Games, Epic Battle Fantasy, Riddle School, Fancy Pants, Mastermind, Sift Heads, and Journeys of Reemus games.

Such intense hits of nostalgia. Flash games were the embodiment of my childhood PC gaming experience other than Runescape. I had so many runs of each game, especially Union City. Miss their multiplayer game, The Last Stand: Dead Zone. Wish they remade it or reupped the servers

Interestingly, it was The Last Stand that inspired COD zombies. The devs of World at War would play The Last Stand during their lunch breaks, which gave them the idea for the zombies mode

I remember playing last stand 2 with the bow and chainsaw and you could do a weapon switch glitch which would allow you to fully auto shoot the bow so you have like a bow with the clip size of a chainsaw

I wonder if that one bug is still present in the last stand version of steam. You equip the hunting rifle in one slot than some other large capacity gun in the other and rapidly switch between them turning your hunting rifle into a machine gun. I remember this also being killer with the sawed off too

I feel like a remake of LSUC would be amazing, more quest to complete along the way, the background you pick at the start giving alternative dialogue options with certain NPCs along with unique items at your apartment back home.

When I was a kid, My favorite glitch in the 2nd game was you could swap weapons and reload at the same time and move ammo from one weapon to another. So I'd swap the 50 chainsaw ammo into the bow and dominate.

when i was younger, i use to speed run union city, getting down to 1 hour and 34 min. recently picked it back up and my current fastest run is just under 2 hours. still love the game and probably will for years to come

I remember they had a mini dlc it came with a weapon or two. One of em was a guitar for melee. The cost was as much as you wanted to send or at least a dollar I believe, I was pretty young. I just remember convincing my mom to get it for me.

The strategy in the last stand is actually to spam survivor hunting. Each survivor increases the findo meters progress so you want them asap.

I think that you could do more of Union City. From my recollection of the game though, getting to the hospital was a good chunk of the game, but maybe that's only because I quit playing it at that point; it has been quite a long time.
