Lavendertowne has to be one of the most unproblematic artists I've ever seen. It's so sad to see people jump at her over one video, but it's expected knowing (majority of, not all of ) the specific fandom being dealt with. People really took the intent out of context and made her sound so evil. I think it's awesome that despite everything, she still took it in stride and did even better than before, acknowledged her mistakes, and owned up to it. That takes a very strong character! But it's just so sad noticing that in the new video she has to constantly repeat things like "I'm not judging the original designs" or "I'm not [blank]" and "I'm not trying to [blank]."

@@Aerodumb Tbh, that part isn't so surprising. There's unfortunately always a weird 'culture' of people trying to spark drama over the tiniest things. "Markiplier said this!" "Jackscepticeye did this thing! He's falling off!" "I hate how this person's artstyle looks! It looks like (accusation)" "This person's character looks like trash, I bet they (whatever)!" Of course people can have opinions, but it's something else entirely when people either outright bully someone or just try to start something :(

But just to put into perspective just how bad people are overreacting, they did a lot of suicide baiting, being incredibly irresponsible and exposing minors to their NSFW art, weaponizing their audience, and general hypocrisy.

I think the main reason why people despised Lavender's original designs so much is simply because both Vivzie and Lavender have vastly different specialties. Vivzie focuses on very exaggerated non-human designs while Lavender is more known for her human designs, so the Hazbin community found it to look 'bad' when you can look at so many of her other human designs (especially her disease/toxin ones etc) and see she really does know what she's doing. Her one Hazbin 'mishap' didn't at all dictate a downfall, it's just two very different skillsets.

Hm... I originally hated the original Hazbin designs, and I had to get used to them and come to like them over time... so now that you've said all this, I kinda want to actually go look at Lavender's version. Maybe I'd like it more than I first liked the originals.

Lavender town has been my childhood. She’s one of the main reasons i got into art and drawing, and seeing people say this type of stuff about her really makes me sad. Yeah maybe the drawings aren’t her best work, but shes still a person with feelings.

Nor should people’s good art be equated to being a moral person. People get upset when creators have moral failings like they aren’t humans who make mistakes. It’s especially bad with young artists who get dogpiled for having immature responses to criticism…it’s almost like they’re children We need to stop putting people on pedestals and conversely stop prowling around actively waiting for people to mess up so we can tear them down.

Lavendertowne mainly draws people, too. Angel dust in particular is not a human design, if anything, he is a creature design. Lavendertowne doesn’t do a lot of those. I do think her designs were bad compared to what she usually does. But that’s just the thing. She has proven herself again and again for YEARS that she is an amazing artist and character designer. We know this because she posts hundreds of videos of just that. It is so infuriating to watch her years of effort and experience be thrown down the drain in the eyes of many because she drew a few bad designs out of dozens of good designs. And how dare they say "this is her downfall"? These people who watched lavendertowne as young artists spitting on her when she used to inspire them free of charge.

On the Internet? No. Not to rant but now that I think about it, there’s been a ton of bullying in the online art community for at least the past 15 years, especially on KZfaq. Palette theft, art style theft. Tracing and copying are worse than murder. Hating on tweening as an animation method because it’s “lazy.” Compilations dunking on “self-shippers”and anyone who was “cringe.” iirc, People hated Cristali way before they knew he was a creep because he traced art and wasn’t very good at animation.

I love lavendertowne her channel is amazing and all those toxic commenters don’t understand that Artists are allowed to draw ugly art. Sometimes, artists will have bad days or bad circumstances and they can’t always draw on the level of the masters! Watching the new video she made was so sad whenever she talked about her experience with the fandom and then she admitted that she was going through a hard time and that was why it wasn’t up to standard.

Ok, I did research on Vivzie and honestly she drew weird and problematic stuff and all, but never *did* anything this bad (the only thing notable I've ever found was some kinda zoophilic art which she did when she was a teenager or very young adult, and she said it was a bad thing and apologized), at least not to the point she would still deserve hate now. Yeah the LavenderTowne situation was really bad, but you worded it like VivziePop deserves hate instead of her which is kinda meh? Both apologized and did better after that, Lavender didn't do anything really bad and for Viv it was A VERY long time ago, we should really move on. And you can't say VivziePop isn't recieving hate, this is just the most false thing you could ever say. As a Hazbin Hotel fan, I can't go on the internet 5 seconds without seeing a "VivziePop sucks" "Hazbin Hotel is terrible" video, stop lying. She even had to leave Twitter due to the constant harassement.

As a Hazbin fan, I’m legitimately embarrassed by how horribly the community reacted. Design quality aside, she did not deserve that. And while I love the show, and I’ve met a lot of the fans are nice, chill people who can acknowledge the critiques that come with the show, I think a good chunk of the Hazbin fandom has a lot of maturing to do😕

I feel like instead of redesigning them, she could’ve just drawn them in her own style. as a fan of hazbin, her redesigns were rightfully criticized, but I think she was rushing to put out content when she made that video. usually her designs are very well done and much loved. redrawing them in her very different and unique artstyle would’ve been much more widely accepted

I've been a fan of Lavendertowne and Hazbin for a long time now. Yes I could tell the original video didn't do much research. But I don't think she deserved all the hate she got for them. I'm glad she decided to remake the video though and do more research. I love most of her newest redesigns of the characters and I'm sorry she had such a bad experience with the fandom.

It was crazy how people hate and criticize the original design, and when someone makes a redesign the person gets hated on and criticized because it's not like the original even though the person was just doing it for fun or just wanting to give some critic which could be helpful. I feel so bad for lavender town and anyone else who has to deal with it, yes she did make mistakes. But she didn't deserve any of the uncalled hate she got, I honestly hope none of the hate effects her in any way. Hey, unrelated to the commentary topic, I just wanted to point out the skintone in your art for the character is a bit ashy. I do recommend saturating and using colors closer to the hue(or look for more advice on how to color colored skin), but other than that I do absolutely love how the coloring and rendering in your style is. I'm even envious you barely need to sketch! And btw, I love the old art you despise too. It's pretty great in my eyes and great job on the improvement.

The amount of hate lavender town got from the HH superfans was crazy, they never let anybody new into the fandom and it’s really annoying when you just want to get into a new fandom, I personally didn’t think the of redesigns she done were that bad, i actually liked them a lot (except for Alastor)

The HH super fans are so weird man. I fuckin love the show, its pacing may be a bit off, but the character progression is fun. But I can't see why anyone would throw a fit over anyone sharing valid criticism, especially as I'm a small writer so I use criticism from shows to improve my stories

Like some of the haters act like Charlie killed their grandma. It's still not at all okay don't get me wrong. Both extremes of that debate are crazy bullies.

I love ur new outfit! So cute! I’ve been watching lavendertowne since I was a kid, her art has always inspired me and I think her making a mistake is ok. I get that people can get mad and defensive but I think we should give her a chance to make it better. There’s worse things that could happen than just making ‘bad character designs’ and I don’t think it’s her downfall, if anything I think it’s a chance to learn and grow. I wish some people would take a minute to stop a think reasonably for a second. Great video bre! I loved it!

I've heard so so so much about this drama and was waiting until there was someone actually talking about it in a calm way and not just talking trash on the designs and her research. The reason the fan art which she thought was official was because (as she showed and said) it was in an interview thing on the internet (I think??) with the official arts. Being a fan of lavendertowne for a while I got really confused as to why people were suddenly hating on her for this, it was a simple mistake in research and not watching the show. All artists make mistakes and its a part of being human, I love the points you made on this and how you calmly explain everything I've seen.

Like legit she wad trying to be soo respectful I feel there are a lot of miss information about the video since it's not up anymore and unless your a fan of lavender there's a small likelihood that people have not seen the video also I personally think most of the critism she mentioned where okay and in her new video she said the designs where sort of rushed. Also congratulations at the end of the video she mentioned that she really doesn't like the fandom because of your bullying you might have put her off the show.

Message to Hazbin Hotel fanbase: go touch some damn grass. go drink some damn water. go cook a meal. do something other than being online and take some time to be a normal human being instead of machines to drive VizviePop's work.

I honestly feel so bad for Lavandertowne half the people who were hating on her og redesigns hadnt even watched the og video like i saw people hating on ehr changing the colours when she had explained why she changed them e.g i had a lil tussle with sm1 who was complaining Alastor isnt red & i wxplained that Lavander had made alastor in a sepia colour palette to make him olf timy & stand out more but ofc toxic Hazbin fans dont care & they immediently combated my point with some bs. The designs on their own are actually alright, just maybe not for hazbin designs, but that shouldn't give no one a right to drag her down like that, lol. Honestly, it's what you expect with hazbin fans. Even in my experience with my hazbin redeisgns, one of mine literally got a comment daying 'No hate but this is thr worst redeisgn ive ever seen' & loads of other hate comments. I've just learnt to expect it from the Hazbin fandom, but i still feel bad for Lavander. It was not a good experience for her first time in the fandom, shame. Even sadder when you find out she had a rough patch the amount of hate she got was uncalled for
