My thing about these designs, specifically with Pinkie Pie, is if you draw Pinkie as black, you'll get attacked, and if you draw her as not black, you'll get attacked. If you draw her plus sized you'll get attacked and if you don't you'll get attacked. There's honestly no winning with these people. The same thing happened with that knucled design a little back. You get harrassed if you follow fannons, and you get harrassed if you don't.

Something I think people forget is that having more diversity helps distinguish characters. Like if you draw characters with the exact same body shape and extremely similar facial features it creates same-face syndrome. Having different nose shapes, body types, and hair texture helps inform personality in a visual medium. While in real life most people just kinda look how they look and that’s something people will sometimes replicate, it’s a very useful tool as an artist. I would rather have 6 very different human Mane 6 designs that evoke personality and are very recognizable, versus a minorly edited base with six different hair colors and clothes. It’s for fun, and yeah, let people have fun. Social Media can be toxic but if people aren’t doing something out of malice or actively harassing anyone, there is no harm and the true jerk is the one who decided to point and laugh over a person literally just having a good time. People also forget that being white isn’t a “default” setting, it’s just really dominant because of real life history. Walk around a grocery store. You will be surprised as the wide range of people who causally exist.

I got hated on for headcanoning pinkie pie as pre diabetic because it was apparently "forced representation" I HEADCANON HER AS PRE DIABETIC BECAUSE THE DOCTOR SAID I COULD BE PRE DIABETIC😭😭😭 I literally headcanon her as that because I was scared about having diabetes and the thought of pinkie also being pre diabetic made me feel better becuse she was my favorite character. There is no such thing as "too diverse". There is authentic inclusion, accurate portrayal, artificial representation, and bigotry. Artificial representation *CAN ONLY* be determined by the people of said community being represented.

What's crazy is that after all this started I've been seeing a bunch of "giving MLP characters an accurate skintone" videos with comments like "its so nice to have ACCURATE headcannons :)" and stuff like that and it drives me insane. This is random but this sort of reminds me of how when Equestria Girls got popular back in 2013. Some people got mad about how the characters didn’t have ‘realistic skin tones’ basically the designs were the Mane 6 as humans (except instead of them having human skin tones they have the same color palettes that they had as ponies) Honestly to me the characters not having realistic skin tones (it wouldn’t have really mattered to me anyway) because I care more about the character’s personalities than their appearance. But then again even if they did have realistic skin tones it wouldn’t have bothered me either way-

As a mlp fan, I think that the fact that people get SO mad by a Desing and not the "usual" skinny body type, it's SO frustrating, bc, well, there are never bodies equal to others, it's just annoying and frustrating to see people get so mad by a different body type they don't like and use the "forced representation" it's just upsetting 🕴

I think the closest to a canon mlp character race was when they were designing concept art for Twilight sparkle as a human for Equestria Girls before it got scrapped to the humanoid style we know now. But it was concept art so it isn't 100% canonized.

Oh my god, this is what I've been thinking during this "trend' and been waiting for you to cover this. The art community on there is so toxic I've seen private their accounts, delete them, and more. Bullying ruins lives. And yes that's basic but it's true. Not to mention how its the same people that say they "want" representation. "Oh there should be plus sized characters!" "There should be more poc!" "More disabilities should be seen!" But then the second someone tries to draw it up for them they'll always be aiming their arrows and call it "forced representation" and say "its just a joke!" It's not funny and they don't even know what forced representation means. Not to mention how those are PONIES. They're magical PONIES. THEY CAN BE WHATEVER THEY WANT AS HOW PEOPLE VIEW THEM. Any one of them can be plus sized, skinny, muscular, black, white, latina, Indian, asian, muslim, christian, whatever. It doesn't matter. You can think of any of the cast whatever they want. MLP fans commonly go against the morals of the show and it's depressing to watch. It's sad how people think tracing one's art and mocking them is humor. People don't even give beginner artists advice or support anymore and it pisses me off and the way people comment on the opposite of the headcanons that Magda (I apologize if i mispelt their name) had. It's their head, their imagination and sight not theirs. Headcanons won't kill everyone you love. The art communtiy is exactly why I hide my art from many people (especially the ones I trust)

I think most people might just anoyed from the "fixing characters" trend, where these body types and skin colors where primarely used. So since people now have enough of that, they are lashing out against anything that looks remotely similar, including inosent redesigns, not bothering to check the artists intentions behind it.

I feel like TikTok is 10 years behind on all fandom discourse (also queer discourse but thats another topic) We already covered this whole topic and decided that drawing mlp (or any) characters poc + plus size is cool and epic 5 years ago on twitter and 10 years ago on tumblr My personal theory is that tiktok has opened up fandoms/fandom culture to a lot of new people who would've never interacted with it beforehand on other platforms So discourse we've already gone through years ago and already got to a general final agreement on, is completely new to these tiktok users Also there's definitely just a bunch of ppl who are simply racist as hell on tiktok finding these videos and deciding to be horrible in the comments I feel really bad for all the creators getting harrassed, especially the original poster, their art is super cute

Posting art on TikTok can have so many unintended negative effects that it can get exhausting and damaging for the artist who drew it. This shouldn’t be the case. Art is subjective and is just a form of creative expression, and shouldn’t be criticized unless asked or insulted and mocked when the art itself isn’t harmful. The way just a few thousand people can entirely destroy an artist just because they don’t like an aspect of their art scares me.

To be honest, I really do think it's racism because personally, as a black person, I'm so used to people tearing down, like especially drawing disgusting versions of people with my skin tone are degrading them, especially when it comes to the my little pony fandom, I believe none of these ponies have a skin tone but the moment when you make them like black or something, people will lose their shit and will absolutely say the most racist shit to you and not only is this basically clearly racism out loud to me, it's also people being extremely hateful towards bigger bodies, which that's also something that I do struggle with as a person who struggled, and who stopped eating at one point for so long it is truly fucking disgusting to me, I will not sugar coat a damn thing because honestly as a person who struggled with like literally starving themselves whenever they're too stressed about their body getting too big or something like that there is nothing funny about any of the jokes in those comments and it's easy to say oh it's a joke or we cannot laugh about it when the person that you made the joke about doesn't find that funny at all I know I didn't find the jokes funny, some people can say this is forced representation, but I'm sick and tired of that phrase forced what exactly is forced to people?
