I only know about them from searching for an EDH deck tech (don’t even remember what commander) but yeah they are quite obscure. I was extremely surprised to see them in the thumbnail for a TCC video. I’ve been subbed for a few months now, though. It’s good content.

Great guests! One thing I'd like to argue: sometimes, saying "if only I had that land" can be a more positive statement. "Ah, I was close, don't feel as bad for me I was one land away :) " when I obviously having a not great time can be my attempt to take the edge off.

Protecting your reputation reminds me of attending the Conspiracy 2 launch day event. I sat down at the table, I was playing a really cool Weight Advantage deck, the guy across from me was super friendly, there was a kid next to me who was maybe 13 who seemed likable, and then in the corner opposite me was a guy who was complaining the entire time. Evidently, he had some kind of history with the 13 year old, but he was smack talking him from Turn 1, "If we were playing Modern I'd have already beaten you," and around Turn 5 he said something to the effect of Fuck you to this kid, and the other guy at the table and I were like, "All right, man, that's enough, this is supposed to be fun." He backed off a little bit, but first chance I had, I took him out with a full swing from my board. No one attacked me that turn, because in the words of the guy across from me, "That dude was being unnecessary."

Prof, I know you got some grief from people telling you that you din't have to worry about changing your style and didn't want you to beat yourself up over being more inclusive, but the amount of positive comments for these guys from people who have never seen them is really incredible. I'm glad to see people using their platform to promote equality, whatever that may be. You have clearly made a concerted effort recently to go in this direction and I am nothing but impressed. Keep it up, and never feel guilty about wanting to make yourself better. I love seeing diversity at my LGS, it puts a smile on my face to see kids, boys and girls, at my LGS gawking over a pack fresh mythic or correcting each other on technicalities in rules or interaction that I couldn't even hope to see, and I can't wait to see that group of people become even more diverse. It can only make us a stronger community to strive for equal representation, and in today's era, media like this is where that starts. People look up to you for great content, and because of this a lot of new people will be looking up to One More Mana for great content, and if that makes someone who was previously uncomfortable feel comfortable going to their LGS for a draft night, it's a huge win for all. Thank you to all involved here!!

I love these two. One thing that helped me in commander with weaker decks was a background in poker. Magic is essentially a game of hidden information and if you are watching for tells and signals in play patterns you can get a lot of value. What are their actions saying, and being aware of what you are saying in your lines of play.

A paired rule to 'Say less than is necessary' is to make sure to mask signals with noise; if there is a lot of unhelpful and necessary information flooding your opponent's attention it's harder for them to see the important information when it's there, or even know what is actually important and what is not. For instance, just playing with the cards in your hand in the exact way they describe when nothing is actually going on, basically wasting their mental energy trying to figure out why you are doing something that is meaningless. Create actions your opponents think are meaningful to waste their time and cover up those that actually are. Also, the best utilization of 'protect your reputation' for me is to develop the reputation of someone that doesn't bluff and can and will do what they say they will do if tested...so that you can bluff at infrequent but important moments and be believed easily.
