I actually liked the gameplay of Blood Omen and Soul Reaver. I found the wide range of powers in Blood Omen and puzzles in Soul Reaver were enjoyable.

@@TC-th1ey That's totally fair. I remember loving Blood Omen and SR 1&2 as a kid. Never finished Blood Omen though as I rage quite at Malek's Fortress I think. When I was playing through it I remembered why I enjoyed them, they were very unique and immersive for the time. I'm just someone that has a hard time going back to those old classics. I'm just too old and jaded probably 😅 Also I was partially frustrated because I could see the potential the games had when I was playing through them. If there's any series that I'd like to see remastered/enhanced, it would be the LoK series.

@@Viryl_TV The thing that threw me was the abrupt ending to Soul Reaver, I remember wondering whether I had completed the game correctly and searched throughout the human settlement as this seemed the obvious place to hide something. After the Chromoplast visions I assumed that there would be some kind of resolution but I had to wait almost two decades to watch a video that explained how much of the game ended up on the cutting room floor.

Yes one of the only franchise that has a more confusing timeline & lore than most comics, these games need the Reignited / N. Sane Trilogy remake treatment.

There was a survey up a few months ago looking for what the fan base would like to see in a potential LOK game, if we would want one, if it would be a new game or continuation of the greater story/set in the same universe, what type of game we would like it to be, and what games we would want it to be similar to. Its very likely that we'll see a reboot within the next decade or so. Hosted by the current IP owners i believe

As a huge LoK fan, you’ve summoned me forth by releasing this video. I have but one thing to say to you, TipToe. *VAE VICTIS!* I hope this means you’re scheming to cover the rest of the series following as well. Perhaps we’ll never see another entry in this masterful series after Defiance, but that doesn’t mean the series and it’s compelling characters have been forgotten. I also welcome any new fans who watch this video and interested in this series. You can find the whole LoK franchise on places like GoG or Steam (save for the original Blood Omen in the latter’s case) for dirt cheap. Yet the games, characters, and story are anything but. Perhaps with enough new fans, the series may make a comeback…and thus defy the tyrannous stars.

Based on the recent poll by Crystal Dynamics that had overwhelming results (they expected maybe 1000 surveys but got 10's of thousands), I think there's a good chance we'll see another entry into to the franchise.

@@Viryl_TV To quote Kain himself: “More powerful than the sword that now held his soul, more acute even than the vision that his sacrifice had accorded me. *The first, bitter taste of that terrible illusion: hope.”* I saw that, and while I want to be excited…I’ve seen how many modern reboots and new entries in a franchise have been handled. Especially for series that don’t have as a complex and ambitious narrative as LoK does. I fear it will be handed over to people who don’t really know or particularly care about characters, story, and spirit of the original franchise. If Amy Hennig comes out of retirement to head to lead and finish the story, that would put me mostly at ease.

Loved this game , lore and vid , well done! I liked how some of the quotes made it into the narrative, I still quote this game occasionally and even ran a TTRPG set after Defiance, were the party went out looking for the newly born scions of the pillars but took influence from all the games, even the Nosgoth battle arena ones. I can't remember a game so subtly steering you to 'there are two choices, but you know which one you will end up cannon.' The voice acting show Kain feels more and more used, and getting more and more fed up. And lastly: 'Poor Nuraptor, I knew him well... Well, not really' Anyways see you on Twitch - Grim

This game and storyline: Legacy of Kain Blood Omen in particular, depicts a story as a Tragedy. Stories/ tragedies the climax of a story, as in high renaissance parting, would depict the climax of the art. This game, voice acting, and everything about it is pure art. From the opening dialogues to the top view gameplay and cut scenes, every square inch was well developed. If a movie series/game remaster would be casted, get ready for a renaissance of the Legacy Of Kain.

The lore goes so much deeper upon each sequel, Soul Reaver 1, 2 and Defiance. Also Blood Omen 2 is a between and also a finale. It's easily confusing if you don't find the proper lore.

I've rewatched all the cutscenes for every single one of these games numerous times and now my favorite lore queen is doing a full blown breakdown of the series!! I can't wait, although I never owned these games before the voice acting and characters are some of the best even now.

This is great! I’m a huge LOK fan. I can’t believe KZfaq hasn’t recommended this to me until now. Usually I watch either the full games or all the cut scenes. Unless I was breakdowns then I watch strictly fantasy but now I have to watch all of your videos.

Also second comment, and wanted to suggest a clarification/correction regarding one lore detail: The Elder God may not have created the Wheel Of Fate. Even Raziel suggests this might the case. It’s highly possible the Elder God latched himself into the Wheel Of Fate like a parasite. Turning it into an otherwise natural and positive part of Nosgoth’s existence into a wellspring by which he could empower and engorge himself. I’m inclined to believe this is the case as for all the being’s immense power, he’s neither omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent. He only the gives the illusion of such. So the next question is, then who created the Wheel Of Fate if that’s the case? Well, that may never be revealed to us and perhaps was always meant to be a mystery. While we learn of Nosgoth’s ancient history and mythology, none of it point to it’s point of origin or originator. Though maybe it never needed or was intended to have one. Or the Elder God did his best to obfuscate or erase records of that most ancient time. It’d be well within his character to do so. Especially to maintain his power and control.

Your thoughts are accurate, the elder god only thrived off the souls of Nosgoth, the wheel of fate is just a metaphor. Unless Amy confirms otherwise, the elder had no control over the natural powers that sustained the world but, could intervene the balance and in that, he did. Literally and figuratively. He was very much a parasite to the world; we witness his growth in SR2 as Raziel traveled through time and even accused the elder that as the world fell in to madness, corruption and war, the elder appeared to be the only being to thrive. The elder intervened with the balance of the world and loathed Kain’s existence all due to Kain being the balance guardian that was prophesied to bring back the balance that the elder knew full well what it meant. Kain is destined to defeat the the Elder and now that Crystal Dynamics has their full rights to the story, I’m fervently hoping to see Amy return to shed more light to the mysteries we’ve been left with for two decades and, to finally see balance return to Nosgoth in the most eloquent story telling fashion Legacy of Kain has been yet to be topped by!

The wheel of fate probably always existed, it's probably like space-time and gravity in our universe, a fundamental aspect of the universe of Nosgoth. And the Elder God seems to be a bit omniscient, as his knowledge doesn't seem affected by changes in the timeline, I mean, Raziel travels back in time and when he encounters the EG they continue the conversation they had in the future. It's the same kind of omniscience that Moebius has. Maybe the EG is able to syphon the power from the pillar of time.

Head Cannon: Janos Audron (The 10th guardian and the original owner of the soul reaver) gave William "the just," the soul reaver when the curse of vampirism was too much for him too handle. Janos Feeling that William was the only human capable of protecting the human race. but then William becomes the nemesis which starts the vampire genocide, which causes Vorador too kill ariel sending nupraptor into madness, which causes the destruction of the pillars.

My first entry to this series was Soul Reaver. I did go back and play this one, I appreciate it gave rise to the rest but it's a bit rough. I am excited to see the remainder of this series though, it is one of my favorites. I still hope, one day, we may get further games in this world but it's just a hope...

I'd like to add a detail to the lore: It looks like Moebius and Mortanius are ageless, probably a side effect of being the guardians of time and death. Moebius also omniscient as he knows present, past and future all at once.

This is the amount of damage that an ideology can cause, once it is never rooted on reality. Thoughout their whole lives almost all the characters of this story believed everything they were told, even the oldest and wisest of them. Observation of the world around us and accepting facts, no matter how terrible they are, is the only way to protect ourselves from manipulation. I think this is the message this story is trying to pass on to us. From all the videos covering this series for far, yours has been the best, lady. I noticed one odd detail. How did Ariel know that Mobius was involved with Nemesis and that the temporal device would activate in the battle against Nemesis? What she said about the Space Guardian needing the time device is also suspicious. Control of space and dimensions is her domain and she wouldn't need Mobius to create portals to hell.

It's stated in Blood Omen that she used the time device to bring demons from other times. And in Defiance, we see a "demon" from the far future she brought. I assume the Hylden were the ones to instruct her what to grab and where to go. As for Ariel, it's somewhat implied that she and Mortanius were in contact and on the same page. Mortanius knew Moebius since they were children, and he knew he planned something. Mortanius knew that the Oracle was Moebius, but he didn't tell Kain.
