Tekken 4 was my personal fave: first Tekken I got to explore on my own, with a borrowed playstation sick at home. I really liked the experimentation they did and the moody tone of the storytelling. Spend quite a few long evenings playing it with my friend and next-door neighbour. Around this time I found VF4, which is the series that taught me how to 'actually' play fighting games :). Those two 4s are closely connected in my mind, one following the other and played side by side quite a bit as well, but at this point I gravitated more towards VF and I let Tekken fall by the side until 7.

My main memory of Tekken 4 is also while playing it while sick at home 🤣 I was always interested in VF but never owned a version of it until the PS3 version of VF5. I never properly learned it, but the games fascinate me.

It's odd, what I appreciate in Tekken is that it is much more movement and position based than 50/50, while VF is initially very 50/50 oriented. What makes it work is that there are so many deliberate defensive option selects that can shift those 50/50s into your favour. Making defense very considered/deliberate within a very consistent rule-set. @@AFriendlyTree

Tekken 4 is the reason why I love Nina. Tekken 4 was the best one 🥲. Thanks for the video !

You're most welcome! I was always interested by Tekken 4 and love the darker tone it has. I guess the timing of it made it harder for me to get into. I mostly played Tag (poorly) and didn't begin to truly appreciate the depth of the games until Tekken 5.

Just wanted to point out that if you beat Tekken Force once, you do unlock the Hon-Maru stage. Otherwise, good breakdown. Liking the videos so far.

The best Nina's hayashida step on Tekken 4 😄 Game system not too good, wall glitch, arena wall carry, etc. However, still have fun play Tekken 4.

Yeah it was fun, but the limitations on movement get frustrating. That's an indirect buff to hayashida step though. I feel like Tekken 8 is similar in this regard, and in a few other aspects too 🤣

It is great. I think they changes were too much at the time, and people didn't like how the gutted movement. It's like they were following the theme of "aggression" when defensive play, movement and timer victories were too frequent in the title before it 😛

Was ttt1 nina just mostly similar to t3?

I think exactly the same iirc maybe some frame or damage changes

She was very similar. There were a few extra strings that I gather are pretty irrelevant. Tag is also when d+4 became a special mid, making her worse than T3 😥

Not really. Nina got nerfed pretty badly from T3 to TTT1. Where Nina was a good, solid character in T3, she's widely considered to be low tier in TTT1. Things significantly changed up for Nina yet again when T4 rolled around -- it's one of her strongest iterations in the entire series, if not *the* strongest.
