The Legend of Vox Machina is an American adult animated fantasy streaming television series produced by Critical Role Productions, Titmouse, Inc., and Amazon Studios, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 28, 2022. It is based on campaign one of the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role. btw, the person Scanlan pisses on at the bulletin board is Matt Mercer. (The character looks just like him and is voiced by Matt, and makes appearances in other episodes - kinda like 'Where's Waldo')

@@ChamarM LOL yea pretty much. I heard Matt didn't know they were going to do this either and the animators snuck him in. (not sure if that's true since he voiced them)

@@PhasedTM Matt confirmed on twitter he didn't know that the animation team was doing this. Sometimes you say lines for characters and the lines are so short the voice actor doesn't need to visually see the character talking to match the mouth flaps...so that was probably the case for the little one liners "Matt" says. He didn't NEED to see the character he was voicing...so the probs didn't show him...and were able to surprise him with this.

every time Percy's gun doesn't work in the series is bc he rolled either a nat 1 or within the specific gun's misfire range which is usually 1-2 for the pepperbox (handgun) or 1-3 for bad news (the rifle)

I'm pretty sure they said that in the campaign when they faced this foe their characters were around level 7. This was a pre-stream adventure so we only know what the cast has mentioned in passing.

I don't think they're sticking with exact leveling since Scanlan is throwing around Bigby's hand already and wouldn't have that until 9th level.

@@elbruces you do have to remember that pre-stream, they werent using DND 5, but Pathfinder, so there might be some spell discrepency between what they actually used in their game and what we saw in the series (Scanlan probably didnt even used Bigsby's hand in the game since in 3.5/Pathfinder, he wouldnt have access to that spell until lv.12)

About moment with a gun. It's Percival and his character is Gunslinger (homebrew class that later was added to core game) and one of the Gunslinger mechanics is Misfire, if you roll lower than a certain number the gun misfires and you need to spend an action to fix it.

Just found ur channel, so I know I'm late to the party but I absolutely adored ur reaction to Trinket: just "....bear! 😃" Giving voice every critter who loves the Goodest Boy and I had the same reaction when ur cat popped up "....cat! 😃" And one of my fave facts about the voicing of this show is that the cast took turns trying to make the loudest burps and Laura and Marisha were the best, so every burp u hear is one of them or a mix

The episodes just get better and better. The third is definitely when it kicks into gear, but the first two eps were amazing

I think when they started streaming the characters were level ~8-9. So I think they would be roughly level ~6-8 at this point in the home game. Edit: Adding (corrected) character info. Their home game was being run as Pathfinder and they converted to D&D 5e for the stream. Vex - Ranger Vax - Rogue Scanlan - Bard Pike - Cleric Grog - Barbarian Keyleith - Druid Percy - Matt Mercer custom tailored Pathfinder's Gunslinger to fit 5e. To balance the power of the "Pepperbox" if he rolled below a certain thresh hold the gun would jam and he would have to spend an action to fix it.

I think they're actually level 10, if they're being rules accurate. 'Scanlan's' Hand is a fifth level spell, which bards don't get until level 10.

@@Heritage367 They were level 12 when the Briarwood arc begins, which is episodes 3-12 in this show. They started streaming at level 9 and there were about 20+ episodes between start of stream and the beginning of the Briarwood arc. These first 2 episodes were story-wise from well before the stream and they were around level 7. But obviously for the show they made the events much closer together and therefore are at like 10 or 11.

Easiest way I read to remember Vax vs. Vex: Vax, "a" as in Adam. Vex, "e" as in Eve. So far it's just getting better and better every episode.

I always said their full first names to remember. Vax'ildan sounds more masculine, and Vex'halia sounds more feminine

It was nice watching them on twitch because sometimes Liam and Laura would wear shirts with arrows pointing to each other "That's Vax" or "That's Vex".

I've always remembered Vex as the sister as they do often say Vex'ahlia to refer to her, but it's far less often that you hear them say Vax'ildan.

you asked for their levels, at this point in the game they were playing pathfinder not 5e D&D, i think they would have been level 6-7ish by 5e standards, as when the first campaign started they were level 8 i think.

Very happy that you're watching this! Been a big fan of your work for prior series, and watching you experience Campaign 1, which is very dear to my heart being what made me start playing and DMing my own D&D campaigns, is pretty hype! Experiencing how they try to incorporate as much official D&D as possible, but still avoid obvious copyright material is what I tried to keep an eye out for. How strict they'd be with spell adaptations and so on, as well as class features. Linking the animated series to the campaign in general was something I was looking forward to, since the adaptation impossibly can stay true to everything that transpired in-game. As requested I won't offer any information until asked, looking forward to experiencing this journey with ya!

I believe someone else said that the characters were around level 7 at this point. So a dragon was a fairly impossible opponent in a head-on fight.

I have never played D&D myself, but I’ve listened to podcasts and watched some campaigns on KZfaq, so I have basic knowledge of the game. Though I’ve never seen anything from Critical Role, I went into this show blind and I’m kinda grateful I did. While I’m waiting for Season 3 I think I’m gonna watch the original campaign and compare it to the show thus far. I’m curious to see how things played out originally and how they were adapted in the show. Anyways, I do the same thing you do. I can’t help but watch some of these moments and think about their roles. It’s funny because there are some moments that you can really tell shit went wrong, like one of them rolled a nat 1.

I know you are already finished with EP6... but incase you need a way to remember Vax vs Vex... the second letter is the same as male and female. Male with an "a" second letter is Vax... "a" second letter. Vax=Male Female with an "e" second letter is Vex... "e" second letter. Vex=Female

@@Omn1Media yeah, they took some dialogue directly from the stream at times! Some lines they polished up and make more consise...but there absolutely is some word for word stream interactions that stay in the show.
