Someone once had a bmw 2002 turbo. He let the engine block sit outside for five years before working over the iron block. Apparently once he had the engine working he had it reving up to 15,000 rpms and over 1000 hp. I don’t know truth behind the story but a mechanic I use to know told me about it.

Note Maserati made a 3L V6 that was from the Citroen SM/Maserati Merak, but it was 4 valves. This engine raced at Lemans in 74-75 and dominated everyone including Ferrari Daytona's and Porsche RSRs in 74. That engine made 420bhp at 11,400rpm, in 1974! Very few of these amazing engines were made.

This version is based off a PRV V6 (block only) rather than the Busso of the earlier versions as it was a 90 degree Vee block instead of the Busso's 60 degree. This allowed even lower engine placement and I think a little more power. The earlier engine sounds more high pitched but the later one sounds meatier.

@lucaiervasi8515
@lucaiervasi8515 4 ай бұрын
in reality it didn't even have the PRV block, but only the measurements. the regulations stipulated that the engines used for the DTM had to come from the series. but what should have been used from the standard engine? if the engine was a 4 or 6 cylinder in line, the same distance between the cylinders had to be respected, while if it was a v6 engine, the distance between the cylinders and the same angle between the cylinder banks had to be respected. essentially, the engines had nothing from the standard ones, but only respected these 2 parameters. When Alfa Romeo entered the world championship in 1993, it was equipped with a 60-degree 2.5-liter V6, derived from its Busso V6 engine. this engine had a very high rotation speed, which could reach peaks of 12,000 rpm, while the Mercedes engine stopped at 9,500 rpm. this allowed the Alfa v6 to develop 50hp (420hp - latest evolution 450hp) more than the second most powerful engine on the grid. obviously the Germans did not stand by and began to develop engines that could compete with the Italian V6. for the 1996 championship, Alfa decided to develop a new engine. the technicians discovered that a 90 degree configuration of the v would open the way to a series of advantages in both power and size. the problem was that Alfa Romeo had never produced V6 engines with a 90 degree angle, but had produced V8 engines at 90 degrees, so it was decided to use the Montreal V8, but this had too small a distance between the cylinders and was not suitable to future developments. checking the documents, it was discovered that for a few years, Alfa Romeo was the owner of Lancia and the Lancia Thema model was equipped with the V6 90 degrees PRV. therefore, in its history, Alfa Romeo had also produced Lancia cars and this allowed it to use the measurements of the PRV engine. consequently for the 96 season, 2 new engines were approved, one derived from the V8 Montreal and the other derived from the V6 PRV, but only the second was used in the race. the new engine developed a power of 500hp, but arrived in the cars after the season had already begun.

Modern F1 literally sounds just like this. Especially the Ferrari V6 engine. It just a bit "muted" because of the turbocharger. The cylinder bank design defines the noise mostly. This is why a 20k RPM inline-5 would sound like a V10 F1 engine. Same reason as why a high revving inline-4 sounds like a V8.
