I have a seamster 300 original which I bought in the 70s it has been serviced by omega and is among my most prized possessions. Again a great review 👍 🙂

Knowing more about the history really improved my appreciation of the design. I'm not willing to get into vintage though, for fragility and price, so it'll be the Helson Sharkmaster upgraded homage range for me (if Omega did a reissue of these references, especially the MoD seamaster, I'd save up for one but they haven't done one yet)

Hi again Andrei. I'm not sure how I missed this video when I first discovered your channel?, but I'm sort of glad I did! I binge watched many of your uploads all at once, so this is like a new video for me! 🙂 And it's one of the best and most well researched pieces I've seen on this era of the Omega Seamaster 300. I learned a lot, especially about the Comex connection, which I was completely unaware of. Mostly YT reviewers only talk about the dial design of the Omega and it's failings in shallow water, and often only as a precursor to talking about the Rolex Mil-Sub! I guess the same thing happens when talking about Comex. It's a shame. I love the Mil-Sub! Who doesn't? In fact I really like many Rolex watches. I especially respect their disciplined design language. But what you say is true; on many occasions Rolex have found themselves playing catch up with Omega tech wise - and still do. The race to the deep sea and to deep space being the obvious examples; but credit where credit's due - Everest was a big achievement for Rolex -and Smiths. Anyway. The luxurious loser. That pretty much sums it up! It is a shame that this watch is constantly playing second fiddle to the Mil-Sub (despite the Rolex performing better in shallow water). The iconic design really does belong to Omega (and the military specs & expertise). But it was Omega that did all the heavy lifting - design and spec wise. And while other brands maybe responsible for some designs that hold more beauty and visual appeal, the only design that I'm aware of that *ALMOST* equals the Seamaster 300 for pure functionality is the Tudor Snowflake. This is undoubtedly one of *THE MOST* important dive watch designs of all time. Thanks Andrei. I really enjoyed this one. Anthony.

Hi Anthony, I really appreciate your thoughts! I discovered recently that important brands do not speak too much about their true heritage, Glycine, Doxa, Omega or Certina, they all prefer to remain silent or modest, where social media, relates every historical event to Rolex. which is totally fake news. Omega indeed made the hardest part, opening the waters and the space for other brands :)

@@BraveBeaters So true mate. I was thinking that very thing when I was writing my post. To Rolex I say; What have you done for me lately? 🙂 The Oyster case / screw down crown was a *HUGE,* game changing innovation and the rotating date wheel was significant, but more in a 'nifty' way if that makes sense. But those innovations are 75 yrs old now!, and they are still being praised as innovators. What they've shown themselves to be the masters of since then is taking other brands ideas and improving them; and again credit when it's due, often significantly improving other designs and ideas. The Glycine Airman is one of my all time favourite watches - especially the recent DC-4 and limited edition *NOON* re-issues, but the GMT Master was a significantly better watch and released only 1 year after the Airman. The Submariner is a little different. Sure the rotating dive bezel may've come from Blancpain, but Rolex were able to add it to the Oyster case, so again - a vastly superior tool for a diver. And the rest is, as you say, all marketing that the other brands don't do enough of! Anyway. I know that I'm long winded. I already feel that I'm taking up too much of your time... But I just happen to agree with you pretty much constantly + I really dig your taste in watches. Cheers mate. Hope you and yours are happy and well and CV19 isn't messing with you too much. A.I

Wonderful Video about such an iconic watch. I was not aware that Comex also used the Seamaster 300 prior to the Rolex. Very interesting. Pretty much the same as the Royal Navy did. Makes me appreciate my MKII P300 even more. Would not mind the real SM 300 in the collection though. What do you think about the CWC divers that replaced the Seamasters and Submariners for the Royal Navy in the early 80s? I really like the 1980 re-issue ... Any chance to see that redesign of that Certina you mentioned? The link is expired.

Hi 7slender! Yes, that is the problem, the mass miss information about Rolex and Comex. where the truth is actually the opposite... I have to admit, I am chasing a CWC diver, the one that has the numerals lumed on the bezel, however the price seem to be a bit high for a quartz. but I do collect field watches, I have 2 CWC's and soon I will make a review with other brands, like Copper or Hamilton. As for the form, apologies, I closed it yesterday. I am currently working to launch the video in a couple of days. BUT! I will launch another challenge, where, firstly you can decide the watch. :)

I do not like the "coffee capsule" shape of the helium release valve, I prefer the previous design of that crown.

I cant understand how stupid/blind omega is...yes the seamaster 300, professional, planet ocean are great divers... but please build the OG seamaster 300! This is the greatest looking diver EVER! And dont ruin it by applied markers or a ceramic bezel.

Well, somehow the planet ocean design inherited the identity of the initial 300 diver.
