@@phenixreturns Caline Englishman, AMT LA(2) series! You will search for the tube and not find it! I have the K-2 and it reacts to the tubescreamer similarly like a real tube preamp. I have a JCA22h (JetCity) and I often play the K-2 on 12V with a TS in front into the return of the JCA22h. From my point of view it is the same joy to the ear, super close to the feel you get with a TS into the overdrive channel of the JCA22h. The K-2 is also a bit more aggressive and has the right mid response and really kicks in when it comes to palm mutes. So, in preamp territory solid state is very close. Poweramp, yeah, I admit, I need them (tubes)!

We've seen time and time again that Lee and Pete are better at demoing "edge of breakdown" equipment compared with high gain. Personally I never need my guitar to sound this waspy but if I did I'd be asking Rabea or Berndt for a demo.

@@darklinkduck2275 Honestly I don't think it would matter. Even Rabbea demoed the pedal and I still didn't think it could compare to the amp. I've always wanted a Soldano desperately but I wouldn't get this pedal. I also don't think of Clapton getting dirty tones out of his Soldano and Robert Cray doesn't either. I wonder if this pedal would even emulate a clean Soldano? I highly doubt it. I've not watched the whole video but I just figure it doesn't. Clapton was also using single coils and Pete here is using humbuckers. How would you say this pedal compares to the Wampler SLO pedal? I've literally just never heard anything compare to actual amp itself.

you should have tried the pedal through the fx return of soldano amp. Actual preamp vs pedal preamp. If you insert this pedal in front of the amp then you get twice filtering due to cascading tonestacks which is not ideal.

The could of even keep the pedal flat and change the EQ on the victory amp first then tweak the sound on the pedal, instead of dumbing all the frequencies on the pedal and expecting it to handle everything 🤷

Now I understand. If I buy a SLO 100 and the pedal I can almost get the sound of the SLO 100. If I buy the pedal and the Victory amp and turn the 'Presence' too high I get a worse result. Have I got this right?

I've been using an AMT S1 for years and it's still my favorite distortion pedal. Great Soldano sound with a 3 band eq you can use to tailor your sound.

S2 is just as good. And AMT Bricks R/S-Led, with a tube, is two sounds in one, Mesa and Soldano.

And unbeatable on the LA (second versions) series from AMT: The choice to use it in front of a clean channel or directly into the amp's return (preamp-like). Wish I owned more than just one of them (K-2).

Might be different in the room but the biggest differences is the mids. They seem to have nailed the grain in the gain.

I haven't watched an Andertons video in a long time. The reason being that whatever they try it's always the best thing that they've ever played in their opinion. I get that they're a store so it's based on marketing and selling but you can't really rely on their opinions about any product. Pete saying "I don't think that's too far off" when they don't even sound similar (which is normal cause they're using a different amp and cabinet) is a great example of that.

Pete's got it with a lot of upper mid on the pedal. Feels like it works more for a Strat but the LP wants the amp head with the depth knob at max (now I do too!).

I think Warren Haynes has absolutely perfect humbucker tone with a Soldano. He doesn't use it to sound like he wants to play 80's metal but it seems like that's how most people wanna use them. Clapton ran his Soldano amps really clean and I can't believe they would even mention 80's Clapton in conjunction with these tones. This is way more George Lynch than Clapton or Cray to me.

I went to an estate sale recently where they had a full 100 watt SLO stack, 2 4x12's and head all in snakeskin tolex and brand new. Three flight cases also brand new. The amp was signed by Rick Derringer and was a raffle prize from a music store. The people didnt even play guitar. They did however have the amp appraised and were asking 10k for all. l thought about but l buy and sell and thats a lot to tie up until l got a buyer.

On the amp your using for the pedal turn the bass knob up a touch and the trible down and you will match the 2 tone. You need to tweek the pedal amp mre to match the soldano amp.

It's a really hard comparison to pull off. I kept waiting for the boys to tweak the EQ on the Victory to see if they couldn't match it up a bit better. Also, rolling off the presence and gain on the pedal and cranking the volume might have helped--but yeah; it's close-ish--the drive flavor is very close--but ultimately sounds a bit thin in comparison to the SLO 30.

In the sound comparison, the Amp has more mid to low end, overall a warmer, rounder and smooth sound without losing the powerful feeling. The Pedal is a much drier, flat sound, lacking the space. The treble sounds rather similar to me on my iLoud MTM set-up.

Didn't Clapton use a Soldano during the From the Cradle period? I love that tone. So this pedal at low gain would approximate that, maybe. The start tone at the end was kinda getting there.

Andertons why on earth did you not use an amp head switcher with the same cabinet for comparing different amps and pedal!? Not only that you’re running one amp with cream backs and one with V30’s. Totally different speakers🙈 Your videos can be great fun but sometimes a little more thought and tiny bit more effort would go along way🤷♂️

What this test showed me is how much better a Soldano amp sounds than a Victory amp 😂 The pedal sounded infinitely better when you tested with the Soldano. It sounded weak and thin through the Victory.

Seems like every guitar/amp companies is finally learning how to capitalize on the pedal market. Thousands more people will buy a pedal for a few hundred dollars than will spend thousands of dollars on expensive guitars & amps. Also I just wanted to say that you can fiddle with knobs on a pedal all day long but if you are unable to set the e.q. of both amps similarly before you engage said pedal, then there's no way any pedal's controls could even get you closer to the eq settings of the other amp. Seeing Lee fiddle with the knobs on the pedal without 1st setting the eq of both amps in a similar place just made me shake my head. Also I agree with Pete Gain does not equal any part of e.q. Gain does not add the sizzle. I think people get confused because they begin to associate Fuzz with the added fizz to a circuit as well. It doesn't do that, what it does is reveal the eq. How the eq is set by the knobs on the amp can even mean less because most amp designers preset the eq settings on their amps by the fine tuning their high & low pass filters on their amps, giving players more or less control over their eq settings. Also the closed back Marshall style voiced amp vs. a Fender voiced open back cabinet is like comparing quarters to 50 cent pieces. They are not even close to sounding like each other, pedals or not.

Love the channel, love you guys, but - and please don't take it the wrong way - whenever it comes to anything remotely high-gain/metal etc. you don't seem to have a full grasp of the territory. You have plenty of talented people who are familiar with those sounds at your disposal, so maybe defer this kind of presentations to them? It's all about doing justice to the equipment in the end. Again, don't mean to be harsh. Keep the content coming!

Better method to compare these: Guitar into AB switch. Switch OUTPUT 1 into front Soldano amplifier input (overdrive channel). Switch OUTPUT 2 into SLO Pedal, pedal out into FX Return. You be able to swap between pedal preamp and head's internal preamp this way. all while keeping same power amp, cab and speaker, removing them as variables in the comparison. I'd love to see a comparison video using this method, even if its a 30 second short with no talking, just switching between the two. Hope this tip helps for future "amp in a pedal" comparisons.

In fact let’s hear the two amps with guitar straight into the power amp (or fx loop) first to hear what the power section and cab are doing…. Well we learnt the pedal sounds nothing like as good as the amp drive channel and NEVER underestimate the difference speakers make haha But then the pedal is 15x cheaper or so haha

tbh the main thing I learnt from this video is that a Les Paul into that Soldano amp and cab sounds bloody awesome and well worth the arm and leg they cost.

Imo, The Best distortions have just the right amount of 'Air Space' inbetween the 'Gravel Strikes', To much is 'Over Fizzz', and that usually causes involuntary sneezing' _

I can't believe you didn't try the FX loop of either amp, to get closer to the drive sound. You'll never get it whilst you're fighting against another tone circuit. The main difference between amps' sounds is the type of tone circuit and how it's voiced, not the valves or any other hocus pocus nonsense guitarists believe. Also you'd have to use the same type of speaker cab.

I liked the pedal more before the presence and treble were cranked. I think I would have scooped the mids a little, boosted the bass some, and see how that sounds. After the treble and presence were boosted up, I was thoroughly unimpressed. Pete was playing a progression slightly reminiscent of Public Enemy Number 1 by Megadeth, at one point - probably coincidental, as I suspect he doesn't listen to much metal.

Despite turning all the knobs the actual voicing doesn’t change the fact that the speakers are what you’re really hearing as the difference. Good pedal tho.

It would have been better to see it ran as a preamp in front of a pedal platform power amp like a Seymour Duncan Power Stage and then into the same cab as the SLO-30 to compare the two, or into the power section of these amps. That'll probably get it the closest to sounding like a true SLO. The way Lee and Pete used the pedal here has the pedal's tone colored by the preamp sections of the amps. BUT, something to keep in mind is that Mike's marketing from this morning said the pedal sounds similar to an SLO, not the same, so it might just be a fool's errand trying to get it to sound like the real deal.

I love your pedal shootouts and product demos, and you've certainly earned much respect for your ability to get great tone, even when working with inexpensive gear. I don't know what it sounded like in the room, but that pedal sounds nothing like the amp! Irritating midrange raspy honk that is not in the amp. To hear both of you saying it's really similar just smacks of fanboys trying to sell a product because you bought a bunch of them and we should disregard what we're hearing. Disappointing and not expected from you guys.

It's a preamp in a box, you could either run it through a power amp and into a real cab or into an FRFR but if you chose an FRFR, you'd need an IR loaded somewhere in the chain. I think you're confused.

@@LysanderLH Yes but amps need speakers right? It's not an amp and a cab/speaker in a box. Put it straight into an FRFR speaker and it would sound like a can of bees. EDIT: But if you have an FRFR speaker and you want to use this pedal through that speaker, you can buy something like the Sonicake Sonic IR pedal and go through that first (which is about $60 I think). At least I think that would work.
