I bumped into him in Belfast, on his way to a soundcheck, and he was only too happy for me to stroll with him and chat. On arriving at the venue I said goodbye, and he invited me to come in and meet the other guys . . . It would have been rude to refuse. He was charming, friendly, and not what I had expected at all.

Ya I know the days of drummers that played like Bill Ward and Phil even Steven Adler are gone there was personality to what they did. They all want to play like Thrash how many beats I can get in there not nessaesry. Just because you van play fast and a dozen beats a second does not make you good there a dime dozen and they thing is it hurts them because it ends up being there style and it all end up being the same sound all the time.

He was amazing, a total force of nature, he had swing, groove and a naughty drumming spirit, I mean, listen to the groove he lays down on the On Parole version of Iron Horse, tremendous, aye, Phil was so good, I honestly think bands were scared of him, hence he never got more work, he should have, he was an incredible drummer, all his work is amazing, Another Perfect Day was an immense lesson in how to sit behind a drum kit, and batter the life out of it, such a special man, a complete nutter, but a wonderful nutter. God love ye Phil, you changed drumming mate, totally changed it, way ahead of your time.

Everyone is always talking about early MOTORHEAD as being the only period that mattered while the band kept recording and releasing top notch albums all the way to the end. Ckeck out "Inferno", that came out to little fanfare but was immediately a top contender for the metal album of the year. That record just rages with good songs being played extremely well. What a great album!
