The first of the three part documentary about the famous Apache leader Geronimo. Today remembered as a Native American icon and a legendary warrior, originally named Goyahkla, Geronimo was born in present day Arizona near todays Mexican border. As a Native American I am saddened that it took me this long to find out that Geronimo was part of my tribe the Chiricahua. Also for anyone out there the Chiricahua language is considered endangered and being lost to time. I hope to carry the language on.

This battle was between the Sioux Tribe and the Tama Tribe. A relic from this battle is held in my family. A Tamahawk. The backdrop of the story is that the Sioux were planning a massacre of the early settlers. The settlers learned about the impending attack and quickly relocated to a nearby fort in Jefferson. The Tama tribe met the Sioux at the Miller Bridge to prevent this attack and defeated the Sioux in this battle.

The Jesuits described the Apaches as pleasant affable ,laughing and tractable. The Spanish and those who followed them changed all that. I met [it's a wonder] Nenio Cochise[SP] in Santa Maria ,Ca. in 1955 ,he was on his way to see my mom's friend Ethel Perry. He was there because he had trained as a pilot at Handcock air base in W.W.I I. he was a wonser and really good with kids. He told us about the tribes an groups of the Apache people

Wait just a second. The Apache were at war with other tribes from way prior to the arrival of the Spaniards. They raided, pillaged, raped, enslaved, tortured and slaughtered. If you cannot tell the truth, the whole truth, you don't deserve an audience. War was their way, just ask the Tohono Oodham.

@@bob_frazier At 2:00 he said "the Apache was at war with Mexico from the south, the U.S. from the north and the neighboring Navajo & Comanche tribes. No he didn't go in to detail about the pre-columbian era but if you watched any of his previous videos he touches on exactly what you are talking about! ALL tribes are guilty of taking territory, stealing others food, clothes, weapons, horses, livestock, raping women, murdering and taking slaves! This is why I like this channel cause he tells the truth about Indian history! As a matter of fact, EVERY race on this Earth is guilty of the same things!

Okay I cant let this pass, first Geronimo hated everyome that wasn't apache( including mexicans and americans alike) thats just the truth, second we aren't mexicans those lands are our sacred lands not belonging to either Mexico or America and was actually stolen like all land, third if you aren't from our tribe and havent heard our stories dont spread lies you heard from misinformation. Im a descendant of Perico and have grown up with my tribe( the actually people you are talking about) and grew up hearing how we lived and hearing the stories of Geronimo, and another thing to add the Mexican army kidnapped and killed our people just like the American soldiers so their was no siding with either Mexico or America becuase they both wanted us dead, Mexico went as far as to hunt us down like animals
