The Lion King is a 1994 American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 32nd Disney animated feature film, and the fifth animated film produced during a period known as the Disney Renaissance. The Lion King was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, produced by Don Hahn, and has a screenplay credited to Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton. Its original songs were written by composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice, with a score by Hans Zimmer. The film features an ensemble voice cast that includes Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, Robert Guillaume, Madge Sinclair, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, and Jim Cummings.

@@thewolfofcomedy5966 cause "photorealistic cgi" is a mouthful and even Disney knows that wouldn't sell tickets. Really the only thing "live action" in the live action jungle book is the actor playing Mowgli. You can't ignore the selling point of these movies is a "live action" look Disney is pushing rather it actually is 'live" action or not, they wouldn't get very far selling an "animated in a different way" remake.

The biggest thing I think this review failed to mention was Scar's emotional manipulation. It doesn't matter who actually killed Mufasa as much as the fact that Simba *thinks* he killed Mufasa. The "What would your mother think?" line was a trigger for Simba's abuse that reminded him of his past. For his pride's sake, he decided to go back and responsibly face his potential consequences as his own decision. The choice to take responsibility is what matters most.

Even if he didn’t kill his father, he still chose to accept the possibility of facing consequences, that’s the takeaway

The Lionesses don't make a move to help Simba while Scar is blaming him for Mufasa's death and backing him off a cliff. This would seem to indicate that his apparent responsibility for Mufasa's death has turned them against him...except Simba has challenged Scar for position as King. Interfering would be breaking the rules of the challenge, until a winner is decided it's entirely between Simba and Scar. After Simba makes Scar confess to murder the hyenas jump Simba and the lionesses have their chance to get in on things, though they still don't attack Scar himself.
@kylgrv
@kylgrv 3 ай бұрын
Not only that, but it could also be that the hyenas were blocking the lionesses from trying to stand up for Simba when Scar was cornering him. I mean, there were a lot more hyenas than lionesses, and when we get to the shot of Scar confessing that he, not Simba, killed Mufasa, you see the lionesses stuck behind the hyenas, who are ready to attack.

Actually the Lionesses not helping Simba at the end never bothered me because it runs along side the lesson of "take responsiblility for your actions." I think it's supposed to show that there will be consequenses for your actions, but you can overcome them, like how Simba does when he forces Scar to admit his crime. It's not just "Be responsible for your past." it's "be responsible, but expect consequenses for things that happened in the past."

the difference between physical strength and emotional strength is also a core message of the movie. Simba initially admires his dad for how big and strong and powerful he is, but Mufasa's greatest strength is emotional. It's his empathy, and it shows in the scene where he tells simba about the great kings of the past. It's Mufasa's emotional strength that is Simba's driving force throughout the whole movie and is what enables him to gain that strength on his own at the final part. The lion king has so many different messages, in the end it's an ode to life. To the circle of life

"What will your mother think?" Simba is ashamed and guilty about his involvement in Mufasa's death, due to his impressionable young mind and how Scar pushed all the blame onto him. That line is used first as Scar making sure Simba be afraid of what his people would think of him, and is used again by Nala to remind the audience why Simba remains in hiding, his disconnection from society has left him in arrested development, unable to see the truth past Scar's lies.

With Scar's incompetence and the burder of the Hyena's so much would have fallen on her and she had to watch her entire prideland slowly wither and die. I think you misinterpreted the message a bit. The point was if Simba kept running from his past he would never learn from it i.e he would never find out the truth of what happened. The reason the lionesses didn't help him was because they were in shock, they just heard that he was responsible for their previous Kings death. Hakuna Matata wasn't about dodging responsibility it was about not worrying about things you can't change especially the past. And finally the reason Simba was cornered by Scar and could do so little is because the moral wasn't about facing your fears, which is what makes Scar such a great villain, he still had a hold on Simba even after all these years. He was brave enough to confront the past but he was still afraid of what he thought he'd done.

As to Doug's final point about the movie mangling it's message about taking responsibility, I read it a bit differently to how he reviews it here. When Simba reveals that he's responsible for Mufasa's death, this is shocking news. Nala, Sirabi and the other lionesses are all caught off guard by the revelation, and Scar is ready to exploit their reaction. He shouts and repeats the accusation, verbally re-enforcing it, and starts circling Simba to isolate him from the rest of the pride until his army of hyenas can back him up to hem Simba in against the cliffs. It's less about his friends and family abandoning him in the face of the confession, more that even despite the fact that Simba did the right thing, Scar is still a devious bastard who knows how to twist a situation to his advantage, just as he did in the canyon.

20:39 - I work in retail, forced to listen to Christmas music in loop for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 2-3 months each year. So for me, EVERY Christmas jingle is that Christmas jingle. Except for that one from Family Guy where Santa Claus sings about how Christmas has become awful. It's called "Christmas Time is Killing Us", which is pretty appropriate if you work retail during the holidays.

IDK maybe because 99.99 percent of people that think Disney ripped off kimba the lion have never actually seen the show or any of the movies etc. Or know what it's actually about. They just saw some 5 min video that hand picks scenes that have some kind of visual simularity. "YourMovieSucks" did a VERY detailed video about this topic.

I think that Scar makes the comment "What will your mother think?" because one of the worst feelings in the world is disappointing your mother (if you're close with her. So that also goes for whoever raised you, that you have an unbreakable/mother-child like bond with. For me, it's my Grandmother. The LAST thing I would EVER want to do is disappoint her.)

Yes, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. It was supposed to be a philosophy that helps him move on but Simba, being the broken child he is, used it as an excuse to run and avoid his issues instead. I do wish they expanded on it more in the original instead of singing about Pumba farts but its alright And Dylan, we aren’t talking about Simba as a cub... I don’t think the references to Simba’s mother are out of place. It makes more sense that Simba would not want to return if his remaining positive connections are called into question. The chance that his mother might see him differently, that their relationship might be forever stained by his “responsibility” for his father’s death and then his choice to stay away and abandon the pride, in addition to his own guilt, is what keeps him away.

Fun fact: my father passed away when I was two and my mom didn't know how to explain death to me and brother. So, remembering that we loved The Lion King she told us our Dad was Mufasa. That he died like Mufasa, one of the most horrific deaths in Disney history. I still can't watch that scene still as an adult. I love teasing my mom that thank god no one else died in the family or else grandma would have been Bambi's mom and Grandpa Kerchak from Tarzan. 😂😂
