Cash is not king at a stealership, You don't get a deal paying cash... They get kick backs from banks etcetc.. finance then pay it off the next week if you want. ** edit- I don't mean to say " every " deal is like this. I get that it's not always the case. But in most cases at least with what I've experienced cash deals go no where.. If you can walk out with a cash deal heck ya! But equally even if they do accept a cash deal I feel you're leaving money on the table, finance it and work it down more then just turn around and pay it off. I guess each deal is unique , gotta figure out where you're at on the playing field.

@@carswithaaron All very true, but it also does depend on the sales climate - if you have plenty of inventory and someone walks in and offers you enough cash to make some profit for a car you suspect you will have trouble shifting, and you turn them away just in case you can make some more money/kickbacks off a later sale - then you are a fool. A bird in the hand as the saying goes. If it's a car you know you'll sell a week or two later for closer to sticker on credit with a bunch of bullshit fees and extras added in - then of course, you'd be a fool to sell it to the cash buyer.

I ended my management career in the car business after 25-years in 2021. My last stop was a CDJR dealership as FCA was giving way to Stellantis. The writing was on the wall. While every manufacturer misses the mark occasionally, Stellantis took a nuclear-like destructive direction from the onset, both with product and pricing strategies. RAM and Jeep will eventually get sold off for parts in the not too distant future to whatever manufacturer currently lacks the product to serve that market. Dodge is essentially done. They've neutered the brand and no Mopar aficionado will subscribe to their new direction. Chrysler has been on life support for almost a decade and it's just a question of when they will halt the bleeding and pull it off of life support.

The old straight sixes would not break 4x4 drive lines like current 300 hp v8 trucks will. That’s why on back roads and when used for hauling those 1 ton trucks were allmost indestructible. In 1987 I made the mistake of buying a new Dodge Shadow. My brand new Shadow kept breaking down every 45 to 60 miles due to a faulty map sensor. I would be driving along and the engine would just shut down. I brought it back to the dealer several times and even they could not fix it. After several weeks I wound up returning it to the dealer and received full price credit toward the purchase of a beautiful two year old Cadillac with 26,000 miles in mint condition. Yep, though from anecdotal evidence (not necessarily the case country-wide) some of the blame goes on the consumer because so many people especially ones interested in cars at dealerships will get wowed by all the bigger cars with fancy tech, screens and motorized features and often shun more basic, smaller models that are typically more reliable and more financially sound for their budget. Then later they will complain about how cars are getting too expensive, too big and have too much tech. Lol. Though for sure the number one problem of newer cars being too expensive and that dealers have a hard time selling is the government and their strict requirements to 'save the planet'. They usually screw most things up they get involved in but its definitely gotten worse the last 10 years than before in the automotive industry. They would at least offer a naturally aspirated engine option in most vehicles 10 years ago but half of models don't even have a larger, non-turbo engine option.

Return of the Grand Wagoneer seemed cool at first but all I needed to see was that gasket around the back glass, how thick it is... That let's you know what the design and build philosophy was. I said in comments when the Jeep Grand Wagoneer first debuted that they blew it - Terrible pricing and naming structure, no heritage design cues, looks too much like a Grand Cherokee from the front - It seemed like a dud from the very beginning in my eyes - Having a 6 figure Grand Wagoneer priced like a Cadillac Escalade and an identical-looking "non-Grand" Wagoneer version priced like a Chevy Tahoe seemed like a disastrous idea from the start... And if Chrysler/Stellantis simply threw some wood inserts in the exterior door handles or made the "Grand Wagoneer" lettering on the front doors out of wood I think even that may have been a creative and modern way to pay homage to the original instead of just making it look simply like an overpriced Grand Cherokee XL.

Lots of people get concerned if they will still be able to get them repaired etc. Not to mention a new replacement is coming always makes selling the old cars tough. The Chrysler 300 does not give off any impression of luxury anymore. I have seen more of these things driving around poor neighborhoods and parked at cheap, low end liquor stores than anywhere else. These are driven by jerks who want to fool people into thinking they have plenty of money, which they never do. They are also always modded in cheap, ugly ways like blacked out tail lights and fake chrome wheels. I couldn't be happier that Stellantis is getting rid of these heaps of garbage.

I'd like to agree with April on this one that the list provides good evidence for making it easy to haggle down prices on cars, but when they start between $70-100k, even with a stellar discount of ~10%, they would still be painfully overpriced for the value they provide in return. Because FCA/Stellantis (or what ever its called today) operate off pure corporate greed. I've watched a Ram 1500 slowly increase a steady $4,000 grand with the same base model Big Horn (with no added features). Every line item(option) increased hundreds. Its pure insanity when a 23 Big Horn now sits at $60,000. Rebates really suck around this time too. Dealers can only throw in so much dealer discount before they're at a loss. Look how many Jeeps and Gladiators are sitting on lots!!!

To paraphrase, he replied, "People are too stupid to know what they want. WE will tell them what they want." ... The same is true here... People "want" SUV's because that is what they are told they want. There are a LOT of people out there who love and want real cars, but the car makers have decided they make more money with SUV's, thus they are pushing the narrative that the public WANTS Suv's. ... They don’t want to buy a brand new car with a 5.9% interest rate they want a 1.9% interest rate! Now There are dealers out there You can buy a brand new 2023 model with zero interest and they even offer up to 2500 cashback because they’re losing their ass on these vehicles so they’re willing to make deals! And it also helps if you have excellent credit and a lot of people don’t have that!

Why on earth would ANYONE pay $100,000 for a car on the "most unreliable car list?" Well, they won't. But now they won't even lease them, because the price/value equation is upside down. The real problem here is that manufacturers have put sky high prices on their cars, and even with rebates and promotions they become really hard to sell. And a high sales price also means a high lease price.

Lots of people daily 1500's, and you can get tax breaks for 3500's because they're considered commercial. But the 2500 which carries almost the same price as a 3500 doesn't have the same tax breaks. So why not just get the big one? That's at least why you never see 2500's where I live.
