Hi guys, and welcome back to yasminecollects! Today I am covering a device that I get questions on every time its featured behind me in videos. This is the lovely lime green Toshiba TY-CKM39 CD player & cassette tape recorder otherwise known as the boombox. This is a longer video because I really wanted to showcase the sound differences and also play around with recording features on blank prism tapes. It's small, portable, what's not to like? Especially for this video, please make use of the video timestamps provided below. This way you can skip through sections you want, especially if you want to hear a CD sound compared to another in an order I didn't do...I wanted to have all 3 demos play side by side but this video is already almost an hour long!
Yadayadayada, I hope you enjoy this.

@@YasmineCollects Her name is Reverend Bunny (Revy) and she's a wild rabbit that I rescued. The wild rabbits here all look like pets because it's common for actual pet rabbits to be abandoned in the wild. She's probably mostly European Rabbit with some other breeds mixed in.

Love your channel, your humility, zest and enthusiasm for the tech you find interesting. As a 70s kid having ridden my Dad's generation's hi-fi whitecaps - then surfed to shore inside the barrel of mass produced 80s and 90s stereo equipment (still enjoying the backwash now, and jumping right in - albeit as a bodyboarder!) - I totally understand how you dig devices as innocuous as this little Tosh. I'm sure there are many my age who would dismiss tech like this, but I reckon we all find things to like or dislike with equipment we've used or still enjoy. Suppose we all grow up with different tech depending on our age and keeping it alive is definitely a good thing. Your vids are really great, very enjoyable - please keep 'em coming.

Once you've been down that "Lure of the Cassette deck" rabbit hole, there's no going back. Have you sen VWestlife and Techmoans channels? They'll tell you a bit about retro cassette decks and even modern ones (which btw are usually mono, and produced only at the last cassette mechanism factory left on the planet, which every modern deck contains and is ...well I won't spoil it for you). So - get collecting those older stereo-component Cassette decks, look for Dolby B+C, and S. And DBX, Metal tape - and you're on an adventure!

Yessir! I love VWestlife, I believe he did a video on those single insert decks you find in record systems. I’ve seen some nice decks at the thrift and passed on them, I don’t know if I have the space to hold a good system 😭

as other cooments said, modern cassette decks usually sounds bad because all of the machines uses the same low quality "tanashin" mechanism, as techmoan or vwestlife recommends its better to buy for cassettes something late 80s to early 90s

Very cool unit! Especially the ability to record on cassette! That takes me back to when I used to record songs off the radio streaming was a thing because I was poor 😂 I used to have a very similar one that just played CDs though it didn’t have a tape deck. Nice job on the music. I had no idea that was a talent of yours! 🙌🏼

Yep love that green Gadget I have several Toshiba products and they're always top-notch I have a black VCR DVD combo I know we all look down upon those dual entities however this one's stunning Darth Vader shiny piano black LOL plus it's got a large power button that is in total beautiful backlit green color amazing player it's just fabulous I need to get a remote for it I sold another model like it to this dude a silver one and he forgot the remote admittedly I was kind of hoping he would keep forgetting it because it worked on my other Toshiba but he came back and I ordered it and I gave him his remote to complete the purchase but now all I got to do is order a remote for my Toshiba DVD VCR and it's going to be perfect love the little Boombox also I just sold a Panasonic Army vision from Japan I didn't want to i really grabbed it because I had many of them back in the day and you can always remember him cuz they have a blue stripe on the bottom of the cassette door anyways I know more about it and then it was highly collectable and sold it for a little higher dollar thanks to your unboxing video of the same model or a model similar lines from 98 years that's from 2000 I believe and I think you said it was the last good one from Japan correct? Anyways love your channel love your spirit it's nice to see a beautiful girl doing something besides showing off her looks when you're beautiful it's a given right anyways thanks for showing off these cool gadgets it helps us collectors feel like we're doing the right thing by collecting more goodies we probably don't need but love❤😂🎉 sub like have a great one

Great video! I also think you would really enjoy cassettes with proper equipment. These small boomboxes seem to always have poor perform with wow & flutter aswell as bad tracking. Funny story: In the 90s we had a Sony boombox in our kitchen and my mom always bought the most expensive BASF Chrome Tapes to record on it off the radio. If you listen to these recordings today on a nice Pioneer/Sony 3-Head Deck you cant believe how bad the sound is just because the boombox couldnt handle the tape…and these Chrome Tapes do sound fantastic recorded on a good deck! 😉

Been using cassettes since 1979 as a four year old. They're actually pretty robust if you keep the tape path clean... I'm a total luddite though (although use all optical disc formats including LaserDisc)...

@@MrDirkles Don't be so sure. Sure the mechanism isn't like one from the 80s, but Toshiba is generally known for producing decent-quality machines. This is very likely better than most on the market today.
