Bonjour Marie-Anne, Just came across your video. I am in my 60's and grew up in the 1960's in Sydney, Australia. I have tried explaining to my daughter the minimalist and timeless wardrobe we had back then. So beautiful and so fashionable. Nothing was mass-produced, mostly made in Australia or Europe by the fabulous designers both in Australia and Europe. I used to love Norma Tullo. Watching your video today has inspired me to return to that lovely way of dressing. My mother always taught me the beauty of a neckline, front or back, I still love the pencil skirt with a little detail (I haven't seen such a gorgeous ruffled one though but is a wonderful idea). Once again, thankyou. It's never too late to be inspired! Love and blessings

@@rubykeiss1540 No, younger people now can't believe how we "dressed up" to go shopping. But it wasn't about that. It was about presenting as clean, tidy and respectable when we went out in public. Because clothes did, and still do, as a first impression, represent much of who we are, it was so important to dress nicely. To be honest, I have a wardrobe full of nice clothes but I still have clothes which I call my "yucky olds" which are purely for big housecleaning days, messy gardening jobs and painting jobs. Life is much more casual today but that does not mean it is OK to dress shabbily. Where did you go to school? I went to Wenona but I was a day-girl.🌱🙏🌱

Merci beaucoup for your channel. I was pleased recently when a world traveler gentleman told me I looked very French. My ancestry on my mother’s side is Ferrée, Du Bois, and de la Rouchefoucauld. My French ancestors came to America as Huguenots fleeing persecution in the early 1700s. I very much admire the French je ne se quois and try to incorporate it into my style. Thanks for making it personal and accessible and helping us understand how the French have such elegánce.

That was by far one of the best French style videos I have ever seen. So often people do not go into the details so that the most important parts are skipped. Everyone knows by now that a stripped Breton t-shirt is a staple but so many do not know how to pick an excellent one rather than just an ordinary one.

I have taken notes based on your videos with me when I shop. I went to an estate sale yesterday and found the most beautiful soft, gray tone, open front, cashmere cardigan with a single wooden button. I already made a pair of gray woolen slacks with side pockets. I spent a week tailoring the pattern so they fit me perfectly. Now I am shopping for black leather loafers and a simple blouse that I can add just a touch of detailing to it. I am having so much fun since I found you and your channel.

Well I'm not sure why this popped up in my feed but I'm a (straight) man who likes clothes and women and I enjoyed the video. I can see the classic style with the little touches that you have pointed out that French women wear but as a man I would say that it's more than the clothes but the actual way that a French woman can carry herself that is attractive. The je ne sais quoi is in the women themselves and the clothes only complement that. Very enjoyable video

I thought I had a lot of clothes. I have 12.5 feet of closet with a lot of hangers holding 2 items. On top over the hangers is a shelf holding 3 plastic bins holding winter items. Then I have a bureau. But, YOU, Marie-Anne I believe have more than me, and YOURS are well maintained, coordinates well together, and are carefully and intelligently purchased. I'm getting there. I have to thoughtfully sift through the closet. And I don't have to worry about winter clothes only about a few weeks of the year. But I do have to wear cardigans, blazers, long sleeves , capes and shawls because of excessive air cooling in Florida. Thank you for your advice. 😘 I feel I'm am wiser and better dressed. You are doing a great service to women who are willing to listen.

Those are beautiful looking pieces, so simple but special 😍 You have such impeccable taste 💖 The type of fabric of the blouse at 7:37 that has that lovely dotted stitching effect is called "plumetis". Sometimes it is also called "point d'esprit" but I believe plumetis is the most correct term.

This has always been my principle in clothes, to keep it classic, simple not to busy. I have a few nautical, stripy tops and dresses always look cute. So true, they need to have a little extra detail or different sort of texture, just enough to catch the eye and see it for more than it is, as opposed it just being a navy cardigan :). I find the French female style as understated but stylish with a unique air about themselves.

Out of all your videos, I enjoyed this the most (and I have been thoroughly enjoying working my way through lots of them!). This is EXACTLY what I also look for in clothes. I really love subtle small details that make something unique and special. Loving all your stripes - I am also mad for stripes and never get sick of them. That beautiful blue striped lurex jumper reminds me of a really beautiful Maje jumper I’ve got. I mainly buy Australian brands of clothing but I do really love Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and Comptoir Des Cotonniers (last two not available in Australia so I only buy if on hols in Europe) and I once found a shop called Carol when I was on holiday in Corsica which I thought was gorgeous! The reason I like then is because the clothing has a twist which makes it interesting and special.

Yes, I too find things are in the little details that set it apart. I'm a newbie to your channel. I am loving the striped dress with the lower cut in the back. I am a big fan of these type of clothes. Maybe I have a wee bit of French in me. Thanks, I do have a wish to visit France at some point in my life. You are a Beautiful Soul. I love a nice pair of black pumps then you look at the back and there is a small bow which changes up the simple look. I am trying to change up my wardrobe. I have a high bedroom that was made into a huge closet. Whenever anyone comes I get teased. Due to I had to purchase around turn rack .ike they have in department stores as well as having the whole back wall rack about 20 feet long with more clothes than 1 women could ever wear unless she was a model. Or an entertainer. I just love clothes, shoes, Scarfs, I live in the US but I do not dress like an ordinary person. I inherited this love of clothes from my Beautiful Mother. She was always dressed to the nines and from her Nail polish to her shoes, earrings. She stood out. Everywhere she went. I miss her so very very much. I am thankful for her love and guidance thru out my life... Thanks, I love your video. Much love sent your way...

Thank you for your delightful videos. I am so glad there is someone willing to teach about quality and taste in dressing. Some of the special details that make a garment stand out have been called "dressmaker details" in the US. An example would be top-stitching, or a box-stitch pleat on a skirt. They come from Haute couture, and most likely French Haute couture. Just as you say, French chic - is to have some of the special things that make an item unique and which you will not find in the throw-away clothes that is everywhere.

This video is so informative! I love special details when I see them, but while shopping, I think that I have tended to focus more on price rather than making sure that those items have special touches or an interesting detail of some kind. Thank you so much for giving me food for thought, as even the smallest of details DOES elevate the style of that garment!
