The tragic events that unfolded on the 15th of January 2019 represent a sobering testament to the bravery and resilience of those who responded.
On January 15, 2019, at precisely 14:30, a horrifying attack commenced at a hotel complex in Nairobi. Initial reports indicated the attack, marked by gun fire and two explosions within the vicinity of the DusitD2 Nairobi.
Carried out by five assailants who arrived in two vehicles. One of these attackers entered Secret Garden restaurant discreetly and detonated an explosive device. The remaining assailants forcibly compelled security personnel to open the gates of 14 Riverside Drive.
In response to this grave threat, the Recce company, the specialized anti-terrorism division of the Kenya Police Force, specifically the General Service Unit, was swiftly deployed to confront the militant attack.
Among the heroes who emerged during this harrowing ordeal, we must acknowledge a masked British SAS operator, Christian Craighead, who happened to be in the country for training purposes, and helped stop the attackers.
Craighead conducted floor-by-floor clearances of office and car park buildings, displayed remarkable courage by calling out to hostages who were hiding within. Craighead was escorting groups of hostages and aiding the wounded, all while facing relentless gun fire from the attackers.
His selfless actions earned him the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross, a testament to his extraordinary heroism. These events remind us of the unwavering commitment of individuals and law enforcement agencies to protect lives in the face of adversity.

After watching the interview Christian Craighead had with Garand Thumb, it really makes more sense why he did what he did that day. Since day one this man is a warrior, it's in his blood. I didn't even know about him until a year ago and now he's someone that I look up to whenever I have a difficult time or choice ahead of me. Choosing to do right can be difficult for the majority, but he went above and beyond to rescue those in harm's way that day. Really appreciate and enjoyed this video. I wouldn't say "by far" ... US Delta Force and DEVGRU are seriously top notch too. But the SAS are the original and most iconic special forces unit. Selection is absolutely brutal with the toughest part being 4 weeks (minimum) in the rainforest jungle, where not only do you have to get through it (without quitting) you are constantly being evaluated for soldiering competence and team spirit. Guys come out having lost 15 pounds! Only 2% get through selection. I'm pretty fit and strong, but I couldn't psychologically last one day in the jungle - one big fat spider and I'm outta there! 🙂

Christian Craighead single handedly raised sig optics stock values by 10 percent with one easy trick
@Berserkable
@Berserkable 10 ай бұрын
Yup. He’s the reason I started to actually look into SIGs higher end optics and found out they actually are NOT rebranded Chinese optics like the internet commandos claim. Built for Govt contracts, US built with US, German, Japanese and S Korean parts. Zeiss Glass, Japanese circuit board and S Korean Emitter. They may have switched over to Japanese emitter on newer ones if I recall. I absolutely love my Romeo 4T. Far superior to my old MRO and much cheaper than a T2. I honestly don’t see what the T2 could do better to justify the price. Only thing I think they should change is the black finish. It’s too shiny. Not enough to make a difference but it just looks a little cheap.

A few extras on the rifle. The rifle is re-designated the L119A2 when purchased by the UK army. The Ergo grip comes with a unique stippling not commonly available on the civilian market made specially for the UK SF. The rear sling loop often is sawn off and they attach it to the butt stock. They also often saw and grind off the charging handle extension on the left side so it doesn't hang up on their gear. The rifle also has extra waterproofing done and so the gas pods ride even higher than usual making it even hotter under heavy use on the hand guard.

Actually he HAS written a book. He was seeking permission from the MoD to publish it, and they have just refused. So Christian is now taking legal action against them. I really hope he wins, because his impromptu rescue operation is not in the least bit sensitive. Certainly not when compared to Bravo Two Zero!! If the only thing the MoD are worried about is causing embarrassment to the Kenyans because we were training their soldiers with SAS guys then that's crazy! There's nothing embarrassing about being trained by the SAS.

I own a Colt Canada Modular Rail Rifle (MRR) rifle up here in the north. Pretty much the same as this except instead of integrated rails, it has MLOK is running down the hand guard. Paid $2400 CDN brand new in 2019. Not even 500 rounds through it and then the Liberal gov't banned them 3 years ago and revoked our registration certificates because a man dressed up in a police uniform and cloned a RCMP car to facilitate an murder rampage where he killed 22 people using fire, and guns smuggled from the US, because he was unlicensed to own any in Canada. They also banned new purchases of handguns last year because of increased violent crime, using mostly smuggled US firearms. You cannot transfer them and it someone dies, they cannot pass to their family, the firearms must be destroyed. The Liberal gov't in Canada thinks the firearms owners that passed mandatory safety courses, background checks, comply with stringent storage and use requirements, and cannot carry for self-defence, are so dangerous that they banned our firearms but then let us keep them for 3 years at home...okay rant over

Yes, and the other thing to remember is that SAS soldiers can set up their gear the way they want, and they have access to a very wide range of kit. Christian would have put the optics, laser and light exactly where he wanted. And whilst we (in the UK) don't have the civilian "military style" rifle culture, the SAS evaluate and test the sh!t out of anything they are considering using.

Funny how you see setups like this clone rifle and it looks really wacky but it works. It shows that these guys, like Christian, have so much time and experience with their gun. You have so much experience that you know what works and more importantly what doesn’t. All these odd little things like the rubber guard close to the magwell or the check riser are there to fix a problem that was revealed by hours and hours of training and combat.

Nice. Christian is an absolute legend. For the Magpul ASAP end plate/ sling mount combo unit, just add a little self-adhering camo-form wrap around the sling hook and link-ring to eliminate jingle/ noise, you can also use a pinch of 550 cord to mount to the link-ring that helps bring down noise risks. I use that mount on one of my rifles, and it's honestly pretty great.

One fearless man has the advantage in a gunfight of 1) having no need for communication, 2) being the smallest possible element with the easiest time trying to conceal and move, and 3) being able to react and re-orient instantly knowing he has nothing else to rely on. It seems like a disadvantage but if you don't KNOW you're up against only one man then you can actually be paralyzed as a multi-person force because of how long it takes just to figure out what's going on, spread that information to your team, and re-orient accordingly. In CQB, speed, surprise, and fluid re-orientation are the most critical factors that help a force be successful.

As a former Law Enforcer, you must have loved this vibe and filming the intro! (nice outro too) The ejection pattern seems... Unhealthy? Not always forward, even though in CQB you really might have the need to switch arm : is it because it's a 10" DI AR-15? Modified : it's because of the big change in climate temperature AND because at 10" it's really near to the "unreliable zone" for a DI 5.56 (at first glance I wasn't sure if he changed ammo, but later he say it's 77 gr AAC, and it's not logical to think they changed buffer weight between scenes, and the ejection pattern sometime change inside a scene like a 1:35)

@@sectorseven07 I get what you say If for a full hour it's in the same pattern, it's okay. Like, overgassy outside and forward ejection, then low gasses and ejection at 3 or 5 o'clock. Butt, if inside the building it changes, it could disturb a little bit. After thinking about this, I guess that if it's 110F/43C (100% dry) outside, and 75F/24C (not 100% dry) inside, it would be logical to have a difference, like a about the burning powder, and thus making more/less returning gas to the internal piston/the bolt. Maybe it's the reason why SF and others tend to prefer the HK 416 that is always overgassy by design, and thus having almost always the ejection at 2 o'clock, anytime, everywhere? (and yes, I know, they are training and technics to not transition your gun to you other arm, even in a corner)

Switching shoulders for CQB is a controversial subject. Many people don't believe it makes sense. That said, the fact it's suppressed and a desert environment likely is responsible. When unsuppressed, in an arctic environment, the ejection pattern is probably right where it needs to be.
