@@AriesZero sea shanty’s were never meant to have music. They were songs sung while the sailors worked. When raising sails and doing other tasks most didn’t have the free hands to play a instrument.

This song is based on the Mexican - American war. Satianna is referring to Antonio López de Santa Anna who fought against General Zachery Taylor. Some versions of this song is not accurate to history because the battles they were mentioning were American victories not Mexican ones.

0:09 As other comments have mentioned, this song's ship is named after Antonio López de Santa Anna. Also known as "El Presidente", Emperor of Mexico, Dictator of Mexico. Like the song, he self-proclaimed himself as "the Napoleon of the West". Santa Anna was 21 years old when the Napoleonic Wars were coming to a close, and like most people during this time, he IDEALIZED Napoleon Bonaparte. Santa Anna was a devout reader of Napoleon's biographies, he collected Napoleon artifacts, put up pictures of Napoleon's portraits on the walls of his estates, and had his military dress up in French-inspired uniforms. Most importantly, Santa Anna saw painting portraits of Napoleon heroically leading his troops into battle. Seeing this, Santa Anna decided to join and lead his troops into battle, attempting to mimic Napoleon's tactics. In 1836, he attempted to mimic Napoleon's sweep through Europe during the Texas Revolutionary War. Santa Anna's complete disregard for his own men and lack of any sense of common military tactics ruined his professional army and eventually saw Mexico well over half of its land in the following Mexican-American war to come. it's actual name is Santa Anna and it was a mexican president around 1800 when tecas declared independence from mexico his legs got blown off in the battle of port of Veracruz in the mexican gulf
