That comment section was a gold rush of people claiming their own vague memories of it which would get tons of upvotes and comments from people wanting updates. Everyone has extremely specific yet conflicting memories about the details, yet not a single person remembers a title or company that can actually be found. I had the dumbest argument over the "console" part too. I get someone calling a pc their gaming console, but not remembering what console it was on for it to be a pc game seems like such an obvious flaw in the story.

Yep, this whole thing sends up massive bullshit alarms. People dodging questions, such as the original OP that didn't even answer what platform the thing was on. And conveniently remembering specific details about the game but forgetting anything that would actually be useful. How the hell would you know that the game was made after 2000? "Because I don't think society would've been okay with something like that"? The fuck kind of reasoning is that and why would it suddenly be okay after 2000 but not before? Hell, his post was made three years ago so that would be in 2017 or 2016. And the only concrete date he originally gave is "definitely before 2016"? He then back tracks on that date a bit (presumably because of how recent and unbelievable it was for him to completely forget about it) and goes for "before early - mid 2015" instead. The last OP claims they've been searching for it for "over 10 years". Do they have any evidence of this... At all? Any one question that they've posted on the internet about it before this at any given point? Search history? Anything?

I actually remember this game. Unfortunately it's on my hard drive in my best friend's mom's step brother's uncle's grandpa camp truck in Uzbekistan and it's buggered so we need a data recovery company to fix it. I played it somewhere between 1994 and 2015, and it was definitely not a browser game, and I don't remember what system it was for I just remember I played it on Windows. I got it from a North Korean gaming magazine. I think it had the words "Rip" and "Ass" in the title.

I remember playing this game sometime in either the 20th or 21st century, it was a game and the objective was that you had to play it, the twist being that you used your hands to play. The game was made for either browser, PC or console and was called a word that started with a letter, published by a studio or indie dev team

I’ve actually experienced instances where games that were on my old hard drive (before I had to wipe it) couldn’t be found. They were both games from gamejolt. One I did end up finding somehow, but the other I don’t remember the name of. While 99.9999% of those “old hard drive” stories are most likely fake, you can’t discredit all of them.

I played this game once. It's name was Reap them to Shreds, and you actually dismember your wife and all the cops. I'd show you guys, but my dad is the president of Atari and he the took the GameGear I played it on away, along with my copy of Half Life 4: Scoot Edition on the XBox 720.

There was a Call of Cthulhu scenario reminiscent of it. There was a very friendly man who was famous in his neighborhood for his delicious tomatoes. If the investigators dig the soil where the tomatoes are growing, they find decomposing body parts surgically connected bizarre ways (ie: Arms stitched onto a women's head, a bunch of mismatched legs stitched to a male torso).

I actually remember playing this game. It was at my old cousins house. I remember vividly the cutscenes that are described. However my cousin has been completely vanquished into another reality in which Nelson Mandela died in prison. He did leave me a hard drive however. I was anywhere from 1 to 20 when I last played this exact game (I’m 21). One detail I vividly remember was a dlc for the game that involved teenage girls brutally killing themselves in a bathroom. I would grab footage or upload the files but my computer was lost in a tragic boating accident yesterday

I actually also remember playing this game. My uncle had it on a console I believe, perhaps it was a pc. Unfortunately I got caught up in work studying beach life in the area, that by the time I left I had forgotten to ask what the game was called. He last told me he was going to get rid of the game because he couldn’t understand it (He’s from a beach town in Japan and doesn’t speak English.) I believe it was the summer of 1999 that I actually played it, it was a bizarre summer for sure. It’s too bad I’ll likely never play again. Good grief. Those were great days, I’d chase a copy of that game down to the ends of the earth if we had leads.

As one who has game dreams pretty often, I agree that they're difficult to mistake for reality. I wake up going "Um, actually...." to _all_ of them, quickly picking apart all the things wrong with the dream in comparison with the games' canons. All the dreams I mistake for reality actually _imitate_ reality, and they tend to be 5-10 second conversations (most of which I would have the next day, because the dreams tend to remind me of things I haven't spoken to my roomie about). There's also been a couple times I thought things _did_ happen in a dream, but nope; happened in real life lol I have ridiculously vivid dreams pretty much every night, most of them rare hella weird.

Especially if most of society is completely unaware something exists, which was the case with Custer's Revenge when it came out. There are a lot of gamers out there who had an Atari 2600 but only found out about the game well after the internet became a thing, about a decade later.

There was a Stephen king book called 1922 that was recently turned into a movie under the same name that seems to have a very similar plot of farmer kills wife and tries to carry on. There were also a series of games named F13 released in 1999 based on Stephen king books. Not sure if any of this helps.

You can't farm in Moirai. Since you cannot play it anymore: the game has a twist. You come across a bloody person who explains that they aren't murderers. You decide whether to kill them or let them go. Later you become bloody in the cave and as you come out, someone finds you. You have to convince them that you didn't kill the woman in the cave. Then you give them your email. After this, some other player comes across a your character and listens to your explanation and decides whether to kill you, or let you go. Afterwards you get an email from the game which tells you what the other player did.

I remember owning this game, it was called “the reapist”. This kind of reminds me of “Stardew Valley: Blood Harvest”, my brother got me hyped that there was a new game plus for Stardew Valley in which you’re a serial killer and have to hide your crimes while farming. I thought it sounded really cool and actually bought the game for myself (I had previously played on my brother’s copy to see if I’d like it before purchasing). I wasn’t really trying to beat the game as fast as possible to get to Blood Harvest, but it was always on my mind. I never looked it up because I wanted to avoid spoilers. It wasn’t until later that I was talking with my brother and brought up “I’m still curious to see how Blood Harvest plays” and he looked at me and replied “you know I was joking, right?” I just about shriveled up inside when I realized how stupid I was. I think about this on a regular basis.

I can believe this game exists. I remember a game I played way back in the 90’s. Our first family computer was a Macintosh and there was a site where you could specifically download freeware for macs. One of my favorite freeware games was called Psycho and it was an interactive story in which you were a student who murdered your teacher, and the goal was to avoid getting caught or killed for the rest of the day. It was like a text adventure with pictures, but you didn’t manually input commands, it was always a multiple choice options. I tried tracking this game down a few months ago but quickly realized there’s no use in trying. I only have the memory to go on now.

So, just a thought but there's a game called _Harvester_ from the late 90's. that isn't a farming game, but you do have the option to murder your "wife." although technically she is a fiance. I haven't played this myself, but I heard about it some time ago. The game is set in a small town in 1950's, and the player has no recollection of who they are, and all the inhabitants of this town are somewhat weird. The reason I've thinking this might be inspiration to the OP from the reddit, is there's an cult or something in this game called _The Order of the Harvest Moon_ Now, if the OP 's game really was a dream they could have mixed elements of this game, and the farming from Harvest Moon creating the fake memory of having played such a game in the past.

Oh wow, so it's not only me who remembers this game, I've used to play this on my old laptop and it's now somewhere in a junkyard, presumably scrapped. I don't remember much other than the trauma that it left in me from the gore that was shown to the 11 year old me

Whang, another (real, and horrifying) game you should look into is the 1996 game 'Drowned God' . A gorgeously rendered Myst-style point + click game. Made by a cartoonist and children's author-turned conspiracy theorist, who in fact went onto murder his wife, mutilate his genitals, before killing himself and the family pets. I spent a gruelling month playing through the game, desperate to see it through. It attempts to show the 'truth' behind the ancient wonders of the world, and is an absolute confusing mess of theories involving aliens and human-alien birthing. An absurd amount of symbolism, with as much twisted futuristic technology as there was ancient areas too. There's an entire area of the game that is a breathing, moaning cave of flesh. This was supposed to be a kids game, by the way. I'm hoping some youtuber like you or Fredrik Knudsen could do a deep dive into it, as it's one of the most disturbing real stories surrounding a game, yet it's literally such an amazingly beautifully done game with gorgeous animations and graphics.

Well, you technically can survive being stabbed or drowned, provided the wounds are non-lethal or cpr is performed in time, but being killed? Nah, don't think one can live through that.

It was in an old deep web hardrive and it was a fan mod of some windows98 VN. All endings lead to the girls killing eachother or themselves, but depending on your actions you can select who dies and who to keep talking with. Edit: just stupid rambling trying to mix up both stories, I wish there was a VN like this

Found a comment saying that the game was named "Dirtnap" it was from a demo disc. Also the creators were apparently a company named "House of Tales" but in their Wikipedia page they don't list dirtnap as a game they created.

Me too - Mineral Town is one of the best in the series. Think I'll have to pick it up and play again...I just remember getting married, having a kid, and then never playing it again.

Still have my copy of Harvest Moon DS. Would love to see that get remade. The original version is a glitchy mess. Had an entire save game ruined because the game decided I shouldn't ever leave the farmhouse. This game is so glitchy that people seek out copies with specific numbers on the contacts. The more common fix is to just get the less glitchy Cute version. It's the Anarchy Reigns of DS games. That one also has a similar reputation. Now that the rant is over with, I always go for the grumpy pink haired punk girl. She's best gril.

2010-2014 I've got a laptop, but was way too broke. Solution was to buy games from Gaming Magazines, like PC GAMER or CD-Action (2nd one is from Poland, think it went down couple of years ago). There were plenty of Indie games added with the main disc and I do recall some game where you played as a farmer and your objective was to hide a body. It seemed boring to me back then, so I didnt really play it much. I do remember that it was 2d and there was a cutscene at the beginning, but the main thing I remember about it is that background was black.

This reminds me of a game I saw a KZfaqr named ManlyBadassHero played. In it you do have a fishing mini game and the cops do investigate you for murder--but you murder EVERYONE YOU CAN, not (just?) your wife. I don't know the name of it, but it IS in the 2D style of Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon. At least this game might be what people are getting this thing confused with. For a fun time, go on my wild goose chase looking for this game that actually does exist and IS possible to find. Manly has a fun channel where he plays a lot of indie and lesser known creepy games. I was thinking of this game he played the whole time I was watching this video. The object of this game is to kill without getting caught, but it's really hard to not get caught!
