Looking at a very old street directory I have scans of, and comparing with current Google maps, it appears from those, the rail corridor was what is now Audley Street, once it crossed Torrens Road. Just using the distance between Fletcher St, Burwood Ave and the rail line, vs Fletcher St, Burwood Ave and the now Audley St. The old map shows Ninth Avenue terminating at the rail line. Just my observations, although the early street directory may not be as accurate in scale as we'd like. Great video by the way.

Thanks for that. The street directory is fairly correct. There is also a plan done by the CSIRO of the Munitions Plant that shows the rail line and sidings. This is coming up in the next video. I've drawn a map based on this plan on lostinsouthoz.jarmlibrary.me Good work! Julie - Lost in South Oz

My mum worked at actil for years. I was working at a stable on torrens road and I remember watching actil go up in flames. Used to be a few factories down behind the mosque heading into woodville north

It is amazing what is left of the Ammunition Factories...to clarify are you talking about the Ammunition Factories or something else? The two factories beside the Mosque were furse factories which was part of the ammunition factory or shell factories ..or are you speaking of the little bit of land between Actil, and the racecourse...where the train line turned on the bend at Actil platform?

Nice bit of history...Im sure I bought seconds sheets from the Actil factory in the 1980's under the Actil name still.

You did. Mum used to work there and she used to get seconds from the shop

Thank you , glad you liked the first part of this series.. I am sure the factory continued on in the 80s but the rail apart from the Actil station was independent from the factory... Do you remember the fire and when it was ? And when the factory changed its name ?

Me or julie ? I'm into history.. actually I think we are both into History..it's just that rail has a very big presence in South Australian history ..in fact rail has a big presence in all Australian history...I guess rail was a child of its times in the WW2 with it being the back bone of the wars transport solutions. The subject of this video is the Finsbury line and the munitions factories in Finsbury...did they make rail out of other materials for other than steet for locomotives to run on ? In the stockyard quarry the rail was hollow or a pressed line and later rail track because solid ...was there any other kind in south Australian for locomotives... interested in all kinds of history myself ..the longest rail line ..

Pretty sure actil was going in the 80s. Think the fire was very early 80s

Do you remember when it closed ? The line that went out the Ammunition factories sounds like it was removed before the factories closed ...or do you think both the line and actil factory was removed at the same time ? Again Actil was another factory on the Finsbury line and not the main reason for the train line
