Well done on a good video mate. I think your friend is right about the isolation panels. It would be because you don’t want a continuous metal fence next to the lines if they are electrified. (In case a power wire ever falls or connects on to the fence).

7:35 Yes, that building was an original Commonwealth Government building. It was still Dept of Administrative Services stores, Commonwealth in the 1990s. Rail lines were still embedded in the bitumen there at that time. Yes, Hendon small ammunitions plant, then became Philips electronics factory. That still exists, but leased out to many smaller companies. Had a branch off the line running along Clark Tce. Another off topic subject, is the amount of Housing trust properties in close proximity of all these essential factories. Woodville North serviced the munitions factory, Seaton built for Hendon factory, Kilburn for British Tubemills (later Tubemakers) and Islington railyards. These were built to house workers close to the various facilities. Just another little trivia twist.

The munitions complex was certainly an important part of the state's history. But later, the site was repurposed with the next stage in history, the many private manufacturers who set up shop there. Kelvinator, Chrysler (truck assembly), ROH to name just a few. Also worth noting, Audley Street didn't exist in the 40s, much of it was the rail corridor. Glenroy Street came from Grand Junction Rd along the rail line, but terminated just after Millicent St at Athol Pk, which didn't matter much in the day, as few people owned cars, and caught the train to work. More of it should be heritage listed. The importance of it is downplayed too much. 32:15 - 35:15 is where Chrysler built trucks into the 60s. Ninth Ave terminated at the rail line.

Just to add, plant 7, as shown at 42:30 used to house the Christmas pageant floats etc when not in use. I used to work in the building opposite, plant 4 in the very early 2000s, assembling the last of the MAN natural gas buses, as a temporary location, until the contract ended. Those buildings had timber floorboards throughout.

I am really enjoying filming these places, and documenting what is there... unfortunately the little signs that are there explaining the history are so unreadable in some cases , they really need replacing . Port Wakefield's highways seem to have main roads that I am sure were designed to make sure people bypass it .. Port Wakefield is one the most intact townships I have come across and do intend to return to look at much more . The really unfortunate part of the town is the lack of railway buildings . The buildings next to the courthouse weren't holding cells they were housing for the troopers as the sign said and where they kept the police horses. On the other side of the caravan park was the wharf where the bullock drays used to deliver to the boats and the creek leads out to the ocean. Where you first started filming is the local pool but it was being dredged (flushed) via the flood gates at the end of the caravan park.

I live not far from this station. I frequently come here to train spot. I've heard that station building is heritage listed even though it's falling apart due to white ants? & neglect. Hence why there is a fence around it. If you go on the other side of the road crossing, there is a curved driveway. This was the location where the former line to Mt Pleasant branched off into a cutting. There is a private house built just before the cutting.

Thanks for the amazing comment , there is a loose fence around it as you would know and seen in the video..yes as far as I can tell yes it has white ants on the ticketing side . Unfortunately just because a building heritage is listed doesn't mean anything is done .. we would hope it would mean that it is kept in some reasonable condition ... Unfortunately it means it wouldn't be knocked down. You only have to look at the history to see that this doesn't always mean this ...its an awesome place to train spot...glad you enjoyed the video and tc Bridgette .

Cool spot for an explore for sure , there through to Gilman behind the dump is a surprisingly beautiful place at the right time of year. Yes all the explosives were kept originally in the Port Adelaide area I believe until it became too dangerous with the amount of explosives stored . There is a canal that heads from near the power station to where the expressway is now where barges were used then loaded onto light rail, horse drawn I think, and then transported across to that location. The canal is still there with remnants of rail , a barge and a sunken boat from memory. It’s easily accessible ,you should check it out on google maps then visit.👍

Hey Bas, Strangely enough, I got my first job in the 80's too selling newspapers at 14 , at 16 I worked in CSR Chemicals , the it had a name change to ICI Chemical...behind our factory was burgers , and beside us was Union Carbide , where they made defoliant (DDT) fior farms and Vietnam War.. then it all because a shopping Centre and housing,.. you can see where this is going ... People are now having HEALTH complaints. , Strange that ...go figure- I lived , and worked in Rhodes Sydney. History is an important part of who we are regardless of weather we choose to care - just a general statement . I would suspect back in 1941 they were different times and they did what they did because it was war... And back then for the younger people - what work cover ? And I'm sure all the reasons for these factories weren't published in public or on the internet...what net? But we had newspapers and these sorts of things were secrets , BIG SECRETS . I would like to see something done to save some of these buildings . It's people such as yourself Bas who remember what they were in the 80's and that's great. We have made no secret we are from Sydney and now call South OZ our home .. and research ... Our new home - (moved here a bit before covid ) . We are and have always been passionate about history , and yes rail is also a big part of history too. For me personally, I am not as specific as a rail historian .. more general history. I am glad you liked the video ..and its interesting that the CSIRIO occupied some of the factory buildings after WW2 and other heavy industries moved in , why because if they didn't all this would be lost .. when history is demolished and forgotten, that upsets me and it should everyone else .. the next gen only seamingly complains when they want compensation.. some illness or still births . You know health concerns - then seeking financial compensation - and yes I get it . But if history is preserved , not only can some , not all.. we can save the interesting structures , history for the next gens to learn and preserve history . Anyway Bas , thanks for the comment.. Looking at a very old street directory I have scans of, and comparing with current Google maps, it appears from those, the rail corridor was what is now Audley Street, once it crossed Torrens Road. Just using the distance between Fletcher St, Burwood Ave and the rail line, vs Fletcher St, Burwood Ave and the now Audley St. The old map shows Ninth Avenue terminating at the rail line. Just my observations, although the early street directory may not be as accurate in scale as we'd like. Great video by the way.

The subject of this video is the Finsbury line and the munitions factories in Finsbury...did they make rail out of other materials for other than steet for locomotives to run on ?
