In the winter of 1995-96, Tesla sold out First Avenue in about 20 minutes. I had to go to some hole in the wall death metal record store to get tickets because everywhere else was sold out. They retained a strong following for years - to this day even. They played the Ryman in Nashville last year, and that's a legendary room. Love the channel Anthony!

One I like is Shotgun Messiah's "Violent New Breed." It's a good mix of Second Coming and an industrial sound. Not hair metal by any stretch of the imagination, but still retains a few elements of old Shotgun with Harry Cody's guitar wizardry and no weak spots front to back. Really aggressive and heavy... also, much love to the Saigon Kick accolades. Great no matter what they did.. for the record, Jason Bieler's last name is pronounced "Bee-ler," not "By-ler." You rock Anthony. I love your channel. Keep it up,

This period was my middle school, freshman, sophomore year. Great time. I enjoyed the bands of the time right along side my collection of 70s hard rock and "hair metal". Great topic, you might have to go to single years after this because 92 has huge releases. Danger Danger, Tesla, Crue, Slaughter, Tyketto and (of course) Warrant are my top for those years so I’m glad you guys mentioned them. Here’s another 5 for ya: POISON - Native Tongue ( this and Crack A Smile are actually my favorite albums from them, MR. BIG - Bump Ahead, EXTREME - Waiting For The Punchline, CHEAP TRICK - Woke Up With A Monster, SAVATAGE - Handful Of Rain (not hair metal but a monster comeback after Criss Olivia’s passing). Than I have 4 albums that are a bit more “southern hair metal” that I absolutely love, BROTHER CANE - S.T., PRIDE & GLORY - S.T. (Zakk serving notice), CRY OF LOVE - Brother and SISTER WHISKEY - Liquor & Poker.

every month in the new metal edge i would race to find the RAM Music and Impulse music page where they would list import cd's for sale. That Demolition 23 album always stared back at me as one I wanted. Later in life, when we were able to steal music off Napster in college, I got it. But that was also when I realized how much it took the fun out of music hunting to get it all at the snap of my fingers, with little to no investment in actually taking the time to listen to it. I buy my stuff now, as I enjoy the process of getting it, and truly taking the time to listen to the investment I made in buying their music.

So glad that you mentioned Rhino Bucket, I loved all 3 of their 90s albums. Had a chance to see them in 1992. Also glad you mentioned Still Climbing, I always mention that album to anyone that will listen. It came out in 1994 which means it didn't stand a chance but it's a damn shame, for me Still Climbing is right there with the first two. My personal favorite from this era is L.A. Guns "Vicious Circle", again it came out when Still Climbing did so it was never promoted but it's their hardest rocking album in many ways, hell "Killing Machine" is pretty much a thrash song. Great episode!

Anthrax Sound of White Noise in the early mid 90’s was a killer album! Yes they changed a bit and got a new singer (John Bush Armored Saint is and was killer!) to try and blend into the grunge scene a bit, but still a metal album in its DNA. They did it really well, and it stands up today💪
@patrickreeves4650
@patrickreeves4650 2 ай бұрын
the john bush era of anthrax was VERY strong, and very good. the downfall was the constant bashing of the joey-era that they felt they had to do. that created quite a division among their fanbase. sound of white noise was a killer record, and stands among the best releases of the 90's in my opinion. there isn't a bad song, and there is something for everyone on that record. stomp 442 was also amazing, but if you weren't a fan that already knew it was coming, you never would have seen it. that album came out on elektra, a major label, but had zero promotion at the time. the latter output of the bush era was hit and miss...but i hope someday that they can find a common ground and possibly do a special tour and play those songs again. they truly found a unique sound there...

dear god...that is a great idea. there were a ton, and most were garbage. the 2nd wildside album, the dangerous toys did one. dokken, enuff z nuff, vince neil (carved in stone was pretty grungy) all went down that road. warrant has been talked to death about for their change in ultraphobic and belly 2 belly, but the lesser known one's are the fascinating ones. then you look at the "industrial" one's like stephen pearcy's band vertex, or the newlydeads from taime downe (which wasn't terrible), shotgun messiah...all went industrial. you can't find another time in music where a style became so hated and alienated that hundreds of artists were forced to try to grasp onto another style for survival...maybe disco...but i can't think of disco artists that tried to go rock, or whatever else to survive.

bon jovi -these days is an album that is lost among the bon jovi story. i remember going to buy it on release day from that cd warehouse in portland oregon, and they had no display for it, and unless you knew it was coming out, you never would have seen or heard of it. i popped it in my discman and listened to it twice in the time it took to get home. i was shocked at how it was so slow and different from anything they did before. here we are 30 years later, and that may be my favorite bon jovi album. the songwriting is killer and songs like if that's what it takes, something to believe in, and hearts breaking even stand tall among their catalog. but in music circles, and among their fans, it is almost always forgotten.

I think why some of like this era is two fold. 1. NONE of this stuff was overplayed on the radio if it was played at all. People forget just how off the radar our music fell during these years. Unless you were on the level of Ozzy, Van Halen, ACDC, Aerosmith or on that level… your new material didn’t get played. So it kept its underground feel. #2 A lot of these bands tried to keep up with the times and apply heavier guitar tones into their sound and ditched the blatant 80’s cliche like the chorus pedal and cheesy keyboards, but kept the songwriting ability so it’s kind of the best of both worlds situation. A little less cheese and lack of air play makes this era a breath of fresh air.

Video idea for you... there is a AI generated hair metal band called Cubicle Riot. Completely created by AI. Very Steel Panther-ish. They are getting some news coverage. They have, from what i understand, just two songs. One titled "Dipping My Nuts in My Boss's Coffee," so it's obviously a big goof, but outside the dumb lyrics, the music and vocals sound legit. Both songs kick some real ass. If they AI'd this without goof lyrics, both their songs would be bangers. They fucking rock! Maybe review them and how they stack up against real bands, but beyond that, commentary on whether or not you think AI could make serious new hair metal -era music, and how you would feel if they created new music from real hair metal bands that are no longer active or around.

a couple interesting thoughts... the 1993-1994 period of warrant to me, is a lost time. so little information is out there about that period other than a few in depth interviews that erik turner has done. i know they auditioned jesse harte, and offered him the gig to replace jani in 1994, however jesse harte's management refused to let him do it. also, pat briggs from psychotica (used to be in a glam band called r u ready) was offered the gig too, but chose to move to ny and work in the club scene there before starting psychotica. two demos on erik turner's demos for diehards album are from those sessions...but alas, that to me is a fascinating time of lost info on how it worked. on the flip side is that jabberwocky material lane worked on...all of it is on youtube, and it showcases that talent that the man was oozing back then. while it never would have landed him in the upper echelon of recognition he seeked so much, it is quality stuff. great albums from the "lost era" vain - move on it enuff z nuff - tweaked ozzy - osmosis l.a. guns -vicious circle tracii guns - killing machine jon oliva' s dr butcher album tnt- firefly (amazing record...check out the song trippin)

cinderella came to portland oregon on the still climbing tour...and my buddies and i bought tickets. we were in high school still and it was going to be at a club called the roseland theater. day of the show, they wound up slashing ticket prices to $5, and turned it to a 21 and over show. we got screwed out of it. totally blew. always wondered what songs off still climbing would have been in the setlist, as that album was insanely good.

Anything Cinderella put out in '94 wasn't going to be a hit. I like Heartbreak, but if Still Climbing came out in 90 I think it goes at least double platinum.

Why you skipped Bon Jovi " Keep the Faith " and " KISS " Revenge " .Both 1992- 1993 .?

They both came out in 1992, and this list focused on albums that came out between 93 and 95.
