Whether Luke did it or not is inconsequential. The jury failed in law as a conviction must be beyond all reasonable doubt. There is clearly reasonable doubt and always will be where the evidence is circumstantial, which is why this case is still being debated. If the jury had suspicions of guilt the most they could returned under Scottish law is 'not proven'. Either way Luke should have walked.

Especially when Jodie did have defensive wounds, so she did try to get away. Even if it happened the way you're suggesting there would still be something. If you watch the polygraph interview with Terry he explains that he wanted luke to close his eyes because there were prison officers standing behind the see through glass in front of him pulling faces putting him off. There were many facts they were not made aware of and this could have affected their judgement. Sandra believes Luke is innocent based on all the information she has amassed over the last 18 years.
