I just bought a P1 about 10 days ago, and am still burning it in (it needs >400 hours). I'm running straight via LC/LC fiber from a server in a "remote room" into its SFP port, & I have to say I think the P1 is one of handful of the *finest DACs* (having owned Lampizator Baltic 3) AND one of the *finest preamps* I've ever heard, owning a fully dual-mono First Sound Presence Deluxe 4.0-III-SI-X preamp with dual-mono external power supplies with ~300,000uF of capacitance. I've used it as a standalone preamp with a Constellation Inspiration integrated amp and a C-J LP70S power amp, and I find the P1 to be one of the most engaging and beguiling audio components I've *ever* heard. Also, I find the traditional adjectives used for "gear" don't really apply to the P1, rather adjectives used to describe a fine musical instrument e.g. a Bosendorfer Grand or a Guaneri violin are more accurate. I've also used it strictly as an analog preamp with my Michell Gyro SE II TT, SME V arm, and Koetsu Urushi Vermilion MC cartridge and EAR324 phono stage, and its absolutely superb in that application, as well. When I listen to the P1, I don't listen to "gear", I find myself immersed in captivating musical experiences. All in all, one of a handful of the most extraordinary audio components I've ever heard.

This was a great listen! Thank you very much for featuring LUMIN P1. Really glad you enjoyed your listening sessions with it. Vilip was exactly right when he said that the other LUMIN models do have many of the pre-amp functions of the P1, but the others work best in this configuration when streaming is your only source (which is more and more common these days). The beauty of P1 is that you can use it as a hub in the same way as a traditional pre-amp, connecting other sources to it and using the internal DAC and Leedh volume control for all.

I agree. In fact, I think the LUMIN P1 is one of the finest preamps I've ever heard, and say this as someone who's owned Conrad-Johnson Premier 17LS, a Conrad-Johnson CT-5, and presently a a fully dual-mono First Sound Presence Deluxe 4.0-III-SI-X preamp with dual-mono external power supplies with ~300,000uF of capacitance.

Great video guys, I have a lumin U1 with X1 power supply. I'm very happy with it but again it's not the same product as the P1. But as a standalone streamer I could not be happier.

Very good review. As far as Bo Derek running on the beach, she was actually in a one piece bathing suit… you know…like your mom would wear. The fact that you (Adrian) remember it as a bikini is a testament to Bo Derek, the bathing suit designer AND Blake Edwards (Mr. Mary Poppins). Good video.

Love to hear you three compare detailed notes of what you heard from technical and emotional perspectives. What would have happened if you had compared the P1, with it's comparable LUMIN Amp, versus the MAC with the MAC Amp? Voicing? Reduction in number of boxes with an operable full function remote is appealing to me.

Hi Adrian, I enjoyed this video, although I was a bit confused. In your case did you listen to the P 1 streamer and DAC through the Mac preamp? And since the Mac does not have a streamer to what was Lewis referring when he said he would give the nod to the Mac, did he like its DAC better than the P1.I am in market to upgrade my digital side of my system. I currently have a dCS Network Bridge feeding a Bryston BDA 3 DAC, I also use an OPPO transport for CD and SACD feeding the Bryston. The newest The Absolute Sound has a cover story on the P1. I am keen to get a very good DAC - streamer combined. By the way I have a C2500 Mac preamp directing traffic.

Adrian if you want the best streamer/sac’s on the market you should check out Aurender they have the best sounding streamer/dac on the market and they are also preamp function

This almost seems like a Linn top of the line DSM Klimax edition hub with all the goodies...but this is a way better price than the Linn...I guess you wouldn't want to do a showdown of the two...one company wouldn't be happy with you if you did🤔...thanks for the review...now you have me interested to research it more

Great video guys! I have a MCINTOSH MC462 and C53 using a Node as my streamer. I’ve been struggling to find an upgrade to the Bluesound Node that may have a better DAC than the C53 as well as some digital inputs. No complaints with the Node, just looking for a more robust full rack streamer that has a great app like the Node. The P1 is not the most active piece in the world though, so I might have to pass. Suggestion?

In all seriousness… anything else. Just kidding… But there's lots better than the Node. Start with the ifi Zen Stream, the Innuos Zen Mini Mk. III, the Lumin U2 mini and so forth. There's nothing wrong with the Node per se, it is just the beginning of your streaming journey…

I got a used naim ndx streamer for 1800 bucks and is head and shoulders above the aries and node combo I had. Not much out of pocket, great value. Just my two cents if it helps.

@@firebladeclements NDX was $7500 CAD new. Aries and Node new might be under $2K CAD new - so, you get what you pay - NDX, even used and 5 or 6 years old is still a great sounding well sorted streamer.

Don’t know about the p1 but I know the t2 at half the price with a classé audio delta amp and Wilson audio Sabrina x is quite something as far as emotion is concerned.

To me, the logical competitor would be a linn dsm. But... I see you are not selling linns. Any reason for that? I confirm they work perfectly with tubes and Wilsons. :) (had enough of all 3 types that I could sell them too...)

I had a Linn Klimax DSM in for review in 2021, and in my experience, the Lumin P1 is a better product. It's DAC/streamer functionality is, for me, more engaging and compelling, and the preamp functionality of the P1 is clearly better. The Linn is an excellent streamer/DAC, and a good preamp; the P1 excellent streamer/DAC AND an excellent preamp. For ~1/4 the cost.

As an All in One a good comparison would be the Hifi Rose 150...at a fraction of Lumin's price I believe it is good value and offers more features/functionality.

I think it’s no comparison, lumin has its own protocol/playback system and Rose is bad working android system, yes it’s cheaper but the app is really half off the pleasure, believe me I was the first on in my country that had the auralic G1 and after 2 weeks I sold it because of the 💩 app and bought the lumin D2

All LUMIN models featuring an ESS Sabre DAC now have a balance control. We believe it's a world-first use of Leedh Processing in this way. This includes P1. For tone control and even more control using DSP, we recommend combining LUMIN with Roon.

Please elucidate. We are not claiming the C53 is a streamer. We compared preamp functionality and mostly how they performed as gain stages.
