ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

Imagine being at the level where you can walk into these big aftermarket MFG's with OEM parts and having first of it's kind aftermarket parts made. That's epic as is showing the modern R&D Process, the ability to 3D scan into CAD and 3D rapid prototype has changed the word of R&D so much and it's so amazing to see it happen before your eyes. Yeah, though legends also make mistakes. He said, that the the combustion produces power and heat. The heat is actually what produces the power. The heat expands the gases in the cylinder, therefor creating pressure, wich in turn moves the piston and creates torque over a revolution (power).

Why not? 6 cylinder engine. 1,500 hp with better torque would be stage 2 but I don't believe in all this staged stuff. Most of you as stated by one of the better Aussie tuners of VW's said that most of you are interested in driving dynamics, so you prefer manual transmissions and only want a little increase in power. I am more like Papa, I like to be competitive so in my world that means 500+ hp min and only change how I drive the car slightly. Yeah I have more lag but it doesn't matter when the light turns green.

Alright, so you could interpret it that way that 1000hp is stage1, or this way: the goal is to make 1000hp, that's just a goal and no guarantee, if he fails and gets stuck at 900hp, then he can swap the crank and still make that 1000. @@dj4monie Why not? Well, the power that an engine can make depends on a LOT of factors, and cylinder count is at the bottom of that list. Displacement, R/S-ratio, B/S-ratio, shape of combustion chamber and ports, boost pressure, type of fuel etc is what matters, and then you have limiting factors like strength of components, disbalances, boundary layer separation in the intake flow, resonance, cooling capacity. And this BMW engine does have limiting factors, way more than the 2JZ or the old M50 series of engines. Btw, stage 1, 2, 3 are 100% marketing terms, there is NO universal definition for what these stages mean. For some stage1 is a new downpipe and chiptune, stage2 is a new manifold and turbo and stage 3 means porting the head. It really depends on who you're asking what these stages stand for. --- One last thing: for drag racing you mostly look at horsepower, but for drifting driving dynamics is actually priority number 1. If you don't have control then you can't make those turns during a slide.

I need to hijack this comment to point out something incorrect that Stephan said: He said that running leaner makes the engine hot but that's false. Running an engine at stoichiometric air fuel ratio makes it hot and running it richer or leaner than stoichiometric keeps it cool. But for racing purposes, running richer than stoichiometric is necessary for maximum horsepower gains

Said @ϟϟ White Wolf ϟϟ, the beta wimp. The discipline of engineering is completely different than the discipline of building things. Real engineering is based on mathematics, which are imperfect and subject to some black magic second-hand experience. Really building things is based on experience, which is imperfect and subject to some black magic second-hand mathematics. It is rare for someone, who likes to build things, to be excited by the mathematics, and visa-versa.

The 2JZ is a heavy engine. So heavy actually that I don't understand why more drifters put in a V8. Even toyota's UZ engines weigh less and can make the power just as easily. More than this a the JZ is longer, so you will have less optimal weight distribution. And this BMW engine is lighter than the JZ too, so there is something to say for this. I personally think that making 1000hp on this bmw engine is more of a PR stunt to show people what he's capable of. @@an0nim11 Nope, you don't. You don't need to cut open, 3d scan and reinvent the wheel, you take a JZ apart and bolt on new parts. The JZ was an engine that was build way to strong for its task, that's why people make power with it, this new BMW engine is build to handle the factory load. Apart from that stroker crankshafts, forged pistons for the JZ are readily available, here you need to custom build them.
