If you love the guitar tone of Nirvana's In Utero album as much as I do - I'm pretty sure you'll like this vid! Here's the making of the impulse response pack. Shot and produced at Robert Lang Studios.

Honestly I agree the In Utero angel on the headstock looks way cooler than the K. It doesn't just represent Kurt himself it represents the whole album and what a work of art it is along with the rest of the band.
@Alex-dg2mb6 ай бұрын
If this batch of guitars sound great and are sold at a competitive price with a healthy profit margin, this could potentially be a long-term multi decade business that runs itself. It seems as though a lot of time, energy, and investment went into its creation. Aaron, I recommend you recognize your own ingenuity and ditch the utero angel all together and figure out the logo of Rash Guitars. The homage should be in the name of the model alone. Protect yourself and think long term potential.

6:56 ok now THAT is the Heart-Shaped Box tone, and on something that isn't the Veleno nonetheless. It's nothing like I've ever heard replicated so perfectly. These impulse response tones are awesome!

@@ToneOClock you are definitely right, but if you watch some nirvana covers by other people, something i’ve found out though… it takes a certain playing style to sound just like kurt, which is weird, cause that’s what people say about hendrix, and evh… aaron definitely has figured out that playing style, though, a sloppy, strummy, open string kinda thing….
@adamsolton6 ай бұрын
@@-cobainism-It may sound weird, but I've even noticed a difference with the pick used. I normally play with a Tortex yellow, but when playing Nirvana I use a Tortex orange like Kurt, and I can hear a difference, or maybe or just let's me get a little "looser" with my chords, or maybe it's just all in my head, who knows hahaha I also normally play power chords with pointer finger, ring, and pinky, but when playing Nirvana I use pointer for the root note and bar the other 2 with my ring finger, which sometimes lets that 4th string ring out, and gives it more of that Kurt "feeling"

Dude!!! That is sooooo cool - the In Utero angel on the headstock of the Valeno homemade guitar. It does sound like the next evolution of guitars after wood. I would love to buy one, I keep watching all your videos and you are inspiring me to get more gear!!! lol I've always been a huge Nirvana/Kurt fan since I was little like 6 or 7 when they came out, and it's hard to find new stuff about them, thats why your videos are so fun to watch! I had no idea about the engine pedal, the Valeno being used so extensively, or the use of a filter matrix guitar track via the Polychorus/echoflanger.

Im honestly not the biggest nirvana fan I just never got into them but I absolutely love your videos and dedication and I'm super excited for this IR pack! Im often dissatisfied with most IRs they're just too clean and perfect and usually are just some basic run of the mill speakers and mics super close to the speaker. These seem to have some real unique character and atmosphere to them! I have to record direct into the computer a lot and I've never been happy with my tone or any IR I've tried, I honestly miss my more roomy tone I used to get when I'd put my phone in the closet with my practice amp or across the room haha

Hunted, tracked, and chased that tone down dude! Unexampled dedication here! Off topic, I’ve been chasing pre-Dookie Green Day tone ( bought the Gallien Krueger 250rl and 250 ML… 1976 Fernandes with Hs-4 pickups ( two identical guitars actually). Marshall JCM 900’s and gobs of other amps and pedals ( I’ve hemorrhaged gobs of money into chasing his (BJ’) tone.. I’m confident I’m not the only tone chaser of early Green Day ( you mentioned in another one of your videos “ now what”; this is your next conquest!!) You seem to be the guy to do it! There’s tons of KZfaq videos of their early shows. One from 1989 in Tampa Florida, you can see the GK 250rl ( he ducked taped it to conceal what make and model it was ( to protect his tone), but if you compare their cheap studio tracks by Lookout records, you can still hear the essence of his guitar tone in the 1989 show, which to my ear makes it seem like their first few indie albums we’rent over produced ( like Dookie). Research it if you don’t already know about this.. but I’m into this for 4 years and 20 plus k.. You-da-man!!

Another note about room mics is that bass frequencies normally take some distance to fully form, so room mics normally sound a bit more full than close mics, but in a different way than just having a bass heavy tone. I like to get a brighter close mic and let the fullness come from stereo room mics, and i determine the placement of those mics but seeing what sounds best in the room with my own ears, then setting up a stand in that spot and tape two mics to it in whatever direction my ears were facing, and pan hard left/right. Leave the close mic centre’d.
