John Phillips (tall guy with guitar) told a story of writing this song. It was 3 in the morning and he tried waking up his wife Michelle (blonde) asking her to write down the lyrics. He said he'd give her half the writing credits. She replied, "We're married. I already have half."

The Mamas & the Papas were a great folk rock group in the 60's. I had their records. They were known for their smooth harmonies. They had lots of great hits such as "Monday, Monday", "Dedicated To The One I Love", "Words Of Love", "Dancing In The Street", "Look Through My Window", "Creeque Alley", "Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon)", "Safe In My Garden", "I Saw Her Again" etc. Mama Cass Elliot went solo & had a big hit with "Dream A Little Dream Of Me".

Keep exploring young one. The 60's and 70's were the decades when music really started to evolve and grow in all genres. The introduction of electronics in the instruments and other equipment had groups trying all kinds of things. But it all came back to the fact that most of them had some sort of classical training that they expanded on.

Denny: a good Nova Scotian lad. He grew up in a tradition of dozens of immigrants getting together singing songs from the Old Country. It didn’t matter if one could sing or not, we all joined in. Those who could sing well stepped forward for a solo verse just as Denny does in California Dreamin.

I love that you're doing some of these older songs. I lived through the 60s music and became aware of the 50s music. Here are a few of my favorite songs of all times from those decades: Will You Love Me Tomorrow - The Shirelles (1960) He's a Rebel - The Crystals (1962), One Fine Day - The Chiffons (1963), I Count the Tears - The Drifters (1960), Chain Gang - Sam Cooke (1960), This Magic Moment - The Drifers (1960), Up on the Roof - The Drifters (1962), Baby It's You - The Shirelles (1961), Little Deuce Coupe - The Beach Boys (1963), "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins (1956), "Searchin' " by The Coasters (1957), "Sweet Little Sixteen" by Chuck Berry (1958), "Kansas City" by Wilbert Harrison (1959), "Til I Kissed You" by The Everly Brothers (1959), "Hushabye" by The Mystics (1959), "Chain Gang" by Sam Cooke (1960), "Runawa" by Del Shannon (1960), "Raindrops" by Dee Clark (1960), " "Calendar Girl" by Neil Sedaka (1961), "The Loco-Motion" by Little Eva (1962), "Palisades Park" by Freddy Cannon (1962), "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" by Neil Sedaka (1962), "Twistin' the Night Away" by Sam Cooke (1962), "The Wah Watusi" by The Orlons (1962), "Sealed With a Kiss" by Brian Hyland (1962)

my mom and 5 older sisters all listened to music so I don't remember a time when I did not, I remember when the oldest came home with the Beatles, I quit watching TV in 1978 and have spent more than 40 years with music so careful what you ask for when you ask for recommendations, I could keep you busy doing 5 vids a day for several years... haha, keep up the great work... :) BTW one video I would love to see somebody do is a history of the 27 club, just a thought :)

After watching Dimash just moments ago and recommending him as your daily diet I see you got the Mamas and the Papas. And one of my favorite songs from them growing up. So I'm just going to comment ahead and say I've subscribed and you've got some good choices. You have experienced the 2 GOATS of the universe. Ren and Dimash. These guys affect lives. I don't know if you can technically have 2 GOATS at the same time. Again thanks for giving me my bonus of the day, flashing back to when I was 10.

Michelle Phillips (the blonde) is actually the mother to Chyna Phillips of the all female group Wilson Phillips and step mom to Mackenzie Phillips who was the actress that played opposite of Valerie Bertinelli (Eddie Van Halens ex-wife) on the TV show One-day at a Time. Fun fact: Of the group Wilson and Phillips the Wilson sisters were daughters of Brian Wilson singer, songwriter, and record producer who co-founded the Beach Boys.

Wilson Philips were the two daughters of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and the daughter of John and Michelle Philips (The Mamas and Papas). Cass Elliot had one daughter but neither of the two men in the Mamas and the Papas, John Philips and Denny Doherty. was that child's father. Denny Doherty had three children. A daughter from his short-lived first marriage and a daughter and son from his second marriage.

This band was one of the founders of the Hippie Movement. Look up Haight/Ashbury. A famous intersection in San Francisco. Jefferson Airplane was also another band. There are more, but I can’t recall who they are right now. My daughter and her husband live in the Haight/Ashbury district of San Francisco. I can’t wait to go there.

Written by the late John Phillips. He was the Papa. Michelle Phillips is the only surviving member. She is 1 of the Mamas. The members were in 2 bands in my hometown San Francisco before forming. After the break up of the marriage and the band, Michelle became an actress. Family tree . In short, The Mamas and The Papas are related to The Beach Boys, Wilson Phillips, the jailed Danny Masterson, Billy Baldwin and his son-in-law Justin Bieber. The Mamas and Papas also lead to Van Halen. Suggested videos : 1 Wilson Phillips sing You're in Love live in Manila. 2 The Beach Boys perform Don't Worry Baby. 3 Van Halen performs I'll Wait live in Montreal, in 1984.

Great song, I knew you would love this. Such harmonies! Being an old fart I've forgoten where I learned this snippet but this song was brought into the studio to record by 'Barry McGuire' (Check out his 'Eve of Destruction' if you've not heard it). John and Michelle Phillips were the song writers and Barry liked their sound. While they were showing everyone how the song went the Producer had them cut the track without Barry and the rest is history! I couln't tell if you knew this as your info buckets are always partially blocked by other stuff you have on screen, sorry if I missed it. Check out 'Creeque Alley' for an awesome liitle biographical tune by them. It's not 'Casey' it's Cass Elliot (prononced Kass). 'Dream a Little Dream of Me' would be good tune by Cass. Cheers.

When I was 16 I was hitching a ride home from a club and four girls picked me up that I went to school with. This song came on the radio "California Dreaming". I was in the back seat with two of the girls Ginny and Marilyn. They all sreamed that they love this song and they started kissing on me and grabing me. The girl driving was looking in the rear view mirror instead of watching the road ahead and wrecked the car into a fence. So I was thrown out and never got any loving. Haha.
