In Part 2 of the Spain Dream Trip presented by Fox Racing, we sit down with Stark Future CEO and Founder, Anton Wass. Where did he gain inspiration to build an electric motocross bike? Who is funding the project? Where did he find his team? When will all 10,000 pre-ordered bikes be delivered? These, and many more questions are covered in this enjoyable conversation with the man behind Stark Future.

Awesome video Donn! This is a great interview and this Spain dream trip series has been really informative. Thanks for all the hard work to take us along for the experience. I liked the long form interview and the round table discussion with Garcia, Sleeter, and Woodcock. It really gave some great info on what you guys thought of the bike. Also I’m really impressed at how well Rene Garcia is progressing and becoming a great test rider. You rock Donn! I think you’re running the best media game in the industry right now! Keep it up!

LOL, Sebastian Tortelli! When he raced he slammed thru the roughest lines and just hammered around a track. When I saw he was the test rider last year, I knew this frame had to be built strong enough for moto!

I love this guy!!! I hope it all goes well! I hope they make a cheaper, less crazy one for the rest of us trail riders with a headlight.

This was a great interview with honest questions and observations. It’s also great to see the enthusiasm for electric MX bikes. It further shows that people were far from ready to see the Alta go away. The demise of the Alta was a reflection of corporate wrongdoing on Harley Davidson’s part and the lobbying of the current establishment of the motorcycle manufacturers and the lack of support of MX Sports (the company). It will be interesting to see how Stark deals with these same obstacles. They were insurmountable for Alta.

What I think is so neat about these bikes is that you can recharge them off a small solar array for example a 2000 W solar array could basically fully charge the battery within about 3 1/2 to four hours of strong sunlight. I already have an off grid solar system that is much larger and I fill my electric car up all the time. And believe me even on a cloudy day and it’ll still work

I've heard Seb will be racing the Varge at a Europe championship towards end the summer. A few sanctioning bodies have already approved it to race against petrol bikes. That's going to be awesome to see!

Keen to hear more about their racing plans Donn. They said they’ve got approval from AMA and FIM I believe?.. I imagine the next few years might be like the early 2000’s with one company running four strokes and the rest 4 years behind. Also see some protests from the big manufacturers coming up…

That was pretty cool. Great minds behind the brand. That’s just as important as the bike itself. I wonder if they will be developing a range of different size models?

I couldnt wait and bought a storm bee, stark has 27% more battery capacity, but is putting out double the power. The 60hp makes me think its using VTC 6 cells , i suspect 80hp with be on the stark 2 when cells are available or cooling is sorted. weight wise this bike is impressive, 128kg on the storm ams this will be 30kg lighter ! Yet 27% more capacity :)

I’m sure you are enjoying the storm be. But let’s be honest it’s a Chinese bike. There’s really no comparison here. The efficiency of the stark pack is superior to any Chinese production E bike. Don’t get me wrong. I think the storm be is a great bike. They’re just in two different categories

Maybe they should make the brake pedal adjustable in length? That way people can basically set it however they want.

Meeting their production goals/timeline is going to be a real challenge. Developing EV doesn't seem to be as difficult as producing and scaling production of the vehicle for these new EV only companies. This has definitely been Tesla's achilleas heal and this company looks no different. Manufacturing is definitely a formidable task that has more engineering and logistical problems than building a few custom hand-built machines that are proof of concept.

i understand it works for motocross, but how will it be for hard enduro without the clutch?
@joemaulerworks
@joemaulerworks 2 жыл бұрын
I am thinking the same. Hard enduro is not for the masses tho, it’s a bit more advanced. Based on his podcast with Gipsy, I feel Stark’s ceo’s limited riding experience might not fully appreciate that. The company could be convinced tho. There is a french Trial Bike ( e motion? ) with a mechanical clutch. I couLd see a left lever with an electronic clutch on the Varg, so it could create zapping and fanning behavior through software. Not sure the results would be what we desire. That was my complain on my ktm freeride exc. it is easier for me to use clutch control in combination with throttle control than making big throttle movements. In the rough, bumping off boulders , sliding on an off camber hill… pushing a bike above chest while getting bumped by other riders, I feel a clutch lever is ergonomically safer and more controllable than making fine throttle moves. If I bump you on the left arm you can still keep the clutch pulled in. If I bump your right arm I am not sure you can keep your throttle input exactly where you wanted, especially in pushing/pulling awkward positions. Throttle control is just one part of the equation. On a combustion engine at least. Maybe the “ future” is all throttle control ? Maybe those Graham Jarvis classes were a mistake lol , maybe riding style and technique are going to adapt and somehow change… for motocross to begin with... I would like to see Tony Bou and Jarvis, Billy Bolt on the Varg do stuff and give us their feedback. See if they can “ port” their skills as is. Then I will shut up. I worked too hard to build these skills over my lifetime to see someone remove these tools I have finally mastered. Right now Motocross only is a good dirt bike beginner intro. And it is quite a feat for Stark so far. We need more innovators trying things. Cheers

You’re still thinking in the terms of a combustion engine. You don’t need a clutch for hard enduro. That’s just what you’re used to. It doesn’t mean you need one.

I wish I knew. I thought it looked awesome. I was pretty excited about it. When it came out, I thought by Spring 2023 it would have been in production. Will be interesting to see out of the Big 4 and the Austrian bikes who releases one first, and how they operate. Exciting times ahead for us who love electric, and the possibilities that will come along with it. 🤘😎🤜🤛🌭
