The 1963 March on Washington was a milestone in the Civil Rights Movement. Harry R. Rubenstein, curator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History explains the roles of grassroots organizers and the media.
This video series, "Explore with Smithsonian Experts," connects students and teachers with the skill and technique of Smithsonian experts who describe their work at our nation's museums. In each short film, experts introduce new ways to observe, record, research, and share, while using real artifacts and work experiences. Supports Common Core ELA standards.
Produced by the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access and Pearson Foundation.

I was there. Living just off Pennsylvania Ave, when I was 3. Saw every other one up through the 70s. To bad we can't get people together like that now. This tyrannical government, needs to know WE THE PEOPLE, are tired of their garbage. And we stand together in that thought. Until then, prepare to continue, to kiss your rights good-bye.

What a huge failure for the people’s democracy. What a win for media’s dictatorship....

USO legend Lena Horne should've been allowed to speak at the event. She had an interracial marriage to a Jewish man and was willing to perform on American bases during World War II
